So what's the weather like where ever it is you are?
It's pretty darn cold here in southern Finland...it's -11C (which is 12F for you Celsius challenged people) and this actually among the warmest evenings we've had in about a week...Has been -22C (-8F) and next week it might go as far as -30 (-22F) which is officially freeze your fuckin' ass off temp. Ridiculous.
In case some of you might not know I feel like I need to emphasize that I really really really really really really really really HATE winter.
-
I'm not in the office today due to an ice storm. Winter doesn't bother me, my wife shares your hate for it though, Charger.
-
It's in the 30s here in Texas, which is 0-3 C for those that don't like to Fahrenheit. Lots of drizzle, fog, rain, miserable day. At least it's above freezing, which is good.
-
It's actually 0 here in mid Norway right now, so it's practically summer :zomg: :wootwoot:
Overcast, but neither rain or snow. Don't seem to be any wind either, so it's actually a damn nice day as far as the weather go, considering the time of the year.
-
More rain here, strong and all day. Getting some flooding in my area now.
Believe me, Stevie Ray Vaughan's "Texas Flood" is a very apt title.

By this time of the year I get a bit fed up with cold weather and get very anxious for warmer temperatures. But our worse days are not as cold as what you mentioned. Considering how much you dislike winters, have you, at any time in your life, ever seriously considered moving to another country where winters are not so harsh, Charger?

Oh yes I have countless times. But sadly like in so many other things in live there are monetary issues that come to play and prevent any such plans.
So I can only wait for global warming, but that ain't happening either as northen europe will be one of the few places on the planet which will actually get COLDER with global warming...jay!

And if money were not an issue, where do you think you might have gone?

Tell you what, it's a beautiful day in NYC today. Had a nice brisk walk to the customer site this morning, and the sun is bright and clear.

And if money were not an issue, where do you think you might have gone?
Being in a pretty similar situation as Charg, i would've gone to Australia. The weather is ofcourse one thing, but the Aussie mentality seems to be very nice, very easy going. I think i would've gone along great in that setting.
For more exploring reasons India and Indochina is appealing. As for places closer by, and i've visited before, Barcelona was inviting enough to wanna come back. I know there've been a tourism explotion since i was there 12-13 yrs ago, though, so might not be that inviting any longer...
Weather here today: clear blue skies and -13 degrees C, with a bit of wind to go. It's the Siberian cold front setting in, and i guess Charg notice that too. :) Spring can't come fast enough...

And if money were not an issue, where do you think you might have gone?
New York City for sure....although it can get bit chilly there too so a winter place in Orlando maybe...I know someone who lives there and it's something like 70F there now!
The siberian cold Billy mentioned is settling in now....it's -18C (0F) now but in the morning it's gonna be something like -25C (-13F) or more...whooppi fuckin' doo....and ofcourse I have to go run some errands and drive my mom to a doctor's appointment in that weather....
-
and ofcourse I have to go run some errands and drive my mom to a doctor's appointment in that weather....
Atleast you've got the driving option. Getting around without a drivers licence this time of year is really a hindrance, to say the least...
-
Today it is 50F (10C) here.
Billy or Charger: How warm can it get in the summer where you are?
-

Well yes that's true...couldn't imagine living without a driving licence though...where I live I could never get anywhere unless I'd call a cab which costs a small fortune here.

Billy or Charger: How warm can it get in the summer where you are?
The highest ever recorded temperature in Finland is +37.2C (which is about 99F)....but like last summer we never topped +30C (85F)....usually in summer the temp is somewhere between 18C and 25C (65-75F)...Not exactly scorchio...

I've got these two thignys sticking out from under my belly called legs. I get to use them alot. Though it's just a small mountain town i live in, atleast most stuff is within walking distance. But i've spent some hours on buses and trains too. Which is expencive enough, don't get me started on cabs...

Pretty much the same as Charg. In July/August we might be lucky with tempratures between 15-25 C, which are bleeding more and more into September now with the stuff that's going on. June is mostly rain and around 10 C. Highest recorded is 35,6 C.
-
Dropped down to -20 now, when it's time for Bambis evening walk. Chilly... :-\

I live a little over 10km from a nearest store of any kind and 30km from a nearest big city and no busses come anywhere near here, so not a lot of possibility to even consider a life without a car...and thank god I don't have to. :)
It's -19C (-2F) now...will not be going out for my usual late night stargazing stroll...instead I'm gonna whip it out and play some...and by it I mean my PS4.
-
Holy crap, there's supposed to be a nor'easter blow in here on Friday and dump a ton of snow or rain or ice on NYC. I'm opposed to that, as I'm supposed to fly out on Friday...
-
Meanwhile, we may just be looking at a "warm arctic, cold continents" scenario:

For fucks sake... From -23 up to -13 back to -26 today, and still going. And the dog needs another walk soon. Yaaaay... :wall:

Get a cat, no need to go out in freezing temperatures! ;)
It's kind of odd that it's colder there than it is here....I don't think that's too common actually. It's "only" -17C (1F) here now...in the morning it is supposed to drop to around -25C...
Well it is the polar vortex that's causing the extreme cold here and siberia and what is causing the warm temperatures in Greenland. It split and now from the fracture point warm air from the south can bleed into the polar area. It is somewhat of an uncommon event actually. But can't blame global warming on that though... ;)

Might be due to hight. Another small moutain village some 70-80 km south-east of here reported down to -42 C today, which isn't too unusual in that area.

Ah quite right. What is your elevation? Mine is only about 30m above sea level...so yeah not very mountany here! :D
-
Weather Friday here will be very stormy in the morning. My flight is scheduled to depart out of LaGuardia airport, which has the highest rate of cancellations due to weather.
:rage:
-

550 m, so not the highest, but that's down in the valley surrounded by mountains, so the cold air is flowing down, gathering in the "hole", so to speak.
Folldal, the place that had down to -42 yesterday (their coldest in 69 yrs, apparently) is 712 m above, and smack in the middle of the plateau of Dovrefjell.
Today: -17,5 close to noon (when it was -13 yesterday), so it's getting colder before it's getting warmer. And revving up for Bambis "morning" walk now... :-\
-
Took a flight out last night ahead of the storm and I'm glad I did, as the flight I was supposed to be on today got delayed 2 hours, and then cancelled.
Ouch.

That storm is now going through New England. Where I live it should be mostly rain but some vicious wind. My house is in the middle of woods and I'm very concerned that a large tree could topple doing some damage to my home. Already the driveway has many twigs and branches all over it. The wind is suppose to continue the rest of today and all night. I can only wait it out and hope.

Yeah, this one is not messing around at all. I just now got another text that the luggage for that flight is now at baggage claim A. That's gotta be sad, getting your flight canceled and then waiting for hours for your bags to be off the plane.

I've never been on a plane! :O <- hey why don't we have an open mouth shocked smilie???? :-[
Anyways finally some "warmer" weather here...it's only -2C (28F) now...quite an improvement but now there's gonna be more of that white shit coming down tomorrow...
-
We've had a "heat wave" for a few days, with -6 - -9, with sun. Then down to -20 again yesterday, now it's back to -3...
-
I've never been on a plane! :O <- hey why don't we have an open mouth shocked smilie???? :-[
You mean you haven't checked the "more" popup box for smilies? :wtf:

No, it's : wtf : .
Back to the weather, it's a sunny day here in Dallas, but it's also cool weather. For those of you in Vikingland, we're having a heat wave, it's 12 C here.
-
New England is facing its third Nor'easter in two weeks. I live on the coast of Connecticut closer to NYC so we should see less snow than Rhode Island or Boston. It will not be quite as windy but there are a few people in CT that still don't have power. That's the worst. Present temperature is 39 F (4 C)
-
Had a winter storm in Texas in December 2013 that knocked out power hard around here. We were four days without power, temps barely above freezing inside and well into the low teens (Fahrenheit) outside.

10 inches of snow here in southeastern Mass. I'll be using the snowblower tomorrow. Didn't loose power though.
-
Sunny, blue skies and "only" -6,5 degrees here right now. If i hadn't sprained my foot last weekend i'd be out skiing right now.
-
We had a nice splash of warmth for a day yesterday...but now it's getting colder again... :(
-
Going to be above 80F here in a few days.
-
So we had a biiiig dip in the temp again last night... went -18C (0F)...spring ain't in a hurry this year... :(
-
Was above 80F, then I had to turn the heater back on today. It'll warm up again by the end of the week.
Meanwhile, in the Northeast USA, there is another big snow storm. Out west in California, major rains are expected.

Well summer came with a bang now!
Just clocked +30C (86F) today! Pretty darn warm.
And so so so so much birch pollen in the air my nose is not a happy camper...at all.

Looking forward to those kind of temperatures myself. :excited: Probably in another month. Fortunately pollen does not bother me.

We have that going on now. Went from winter to summer (might have had one day of spring). Opening the pool this week, all the landscaping is done, finishing up the non-spring cleaning this weekend.

20 + here, and it's still damn hot. 30 is too much, and that's coming from someone hating cold weather. Never Satisfied... :))
I guess living so far north-east inland (if i remember correctly) will give you shitloads of helicopter sized mosquitoes the next couple of months, Charg? I certainly don't envy you that either... Buzzkill...

You don't remember correctly. ;)
I actually live in the south west...pretty near the city of Turku.
But we still do get mosquitoes here...but thankfully just average size...but they still suck the life out of ya.

Hmm... It was something about when we were talking about the Siberian cold front earlier in this thread that made me believe you lived further north. Don't know why, and i don't bother going back checking. Couldn't be more opposite... :P
So, getting off topic for a bit now, because i'm just being too damn curious. Do you also speak Swedish (which i understand is more common in the south than the north), or are you one of those strongly opposed (which is highly understandable, i don't like Norwegian dialects that's been too Danified myself), as you call it Turku instead of Åbo? You know i'm a history geek, that's why i'm curious...

I learned swedish back when I was in school since I had to...never liked it...never used it since. A totally useless language here and thankfully people on the "hill" are starting to see that too...
So yeah...you can call me those that are strongly opposed. :)
The really messed up part about the weather here was that the siberian cold actually got this far south which is why it was so sucky back then... ;)
-
I'm in Vancouver, CA right now. Verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry pleasant springtime temps here! Sunny all week, So I can walk to work from the hotel.

Well, you can't do anything about history, only the future. Being bilingual is a good thing, but one must adhere to ones native tounge first & foremost, so; Jeg støtter dere fullt ut i deres kamp for eget språk.
Derail now over.

When that shit kicks in i think it pretty much affect the whole of Finno-Scandia...
Back to (almost) summer... :)
I'm in Vancouver, CA right now.
Vancouver, California?!? I thought Vancouver was in Canada..? :o ???

I'm in Atlanta, GA, USA. :smug:
It's quite warm and alternatingly humid then rainy.

Rain's not good for the Walking Dead...It's probably only rained once or twice on that show....usually just sunny and hot.
Still warm here...it's 10:30am and temp's already at 23C (73F)...this is one of the warmest May's in a long time...but after one of the coldest March's and April's it's a welcome change...but could be bit less warm too though...
Oh well don't have to run so hard to get a sweat...which is nice....off to my morning run now.
-
The thermostat in my room started beeping around 11 PM and kept going until maybe 1:30 AM. Then it shut down. The desk clerk said that they couldn't do anything about it until the morning.
My sleep was off a bit, to say the least.

-
It's fixed. Slept fine the last 2 nights.
And now there's a tropical depression moving up towards Atlanta. I hope I can fly out of here before it turns into a named tropical storm and starts wrecking the air travel schedule.
-
Finally hit 80oF today. :partay: Good days ahead.
-
We've been having 80Fs for a while now...and virtually no rain in the past 3 weeks...everything is so dry I think one could start a fire just by giving an evil stare...it's crazy.
Been the hottest May in history here...and next week we might actually pass 30C (85F) again...crazy.

Dallas hits 40C this week.

29 C today. That's gotta be a record for May so far up in the mountains. Oslo and Bergen, the two biggest cities in Norway are competing over the nation record, so far 31,2 and still going...
Given the trend the last years it'll be a damn rain heavy June around here. Did someone mention a noticable change in weather patterns all over the world..? :-\
-
^^^^^^
Is that 29oC with low or high humidity. Where I am the humidity increases in the summertime for the most part. On the days that the humidity is low that temp is very comfortable. But when the humidity is high (>70%) it is considered oppressive.
-
Yeah, humidity really wears me down. I'm old enough now to be able to tell when rain is coming because of the way my knee pops.

+27C (80F) and humidity is 30% right now.

Superdry here too. Actually a record of the hazard of forest fires for May too. But that's just because the humidity is just waiting to boil over, so to speak...

Well yes and no....because it hasn't rained in over 3 weeks now eveyrthing is so damn dry...I can't even mow the lawn in fear of sparks...granted it doesn't grow much either! :D
Same here then than in Norway...forest fire hazard index is higher than ever before...I've got some forest just next to my house and goddamn it's dry...one spark and that would go up...well...in flames.
-
Same here then than in Norway..

Yeah, well... Still they claim to be "one country" without even knowing more than their own 300 yrs old story. We know we've got a ten-thousand yrs old story both separated and intertwined.
Might just be minute differences to most, but that's just me, ya kno :))

Okay! >:( I don't know what this latest putdown is about, but yes, I do live in a big country. Here in Massachusetts I am about 300 miles east of New York, and 3000 miles from California. There are probably 2 or 3 states in the U.S. that are bigger than Norway or Finland. It is huge. :o
-
Hell yes. I'm in Texas, which is still part of the USA, far as I can tell. Trust me, we're one nation, from Honolulu to Hialeah, from Nome to New York City. There's plenty of cultural variation in our regions, but we're one country, and it doesn't take a hurricane to find that out.

Yes, it is. Imagine if such cultural different countries that's gathered in Europe would try to stake a common political way forward together, what a cluster-fuck that'd been...
Imagine if what you call a country is actually a "nation" of very culturally different people, wouldn't that be kinda hard to pull off..?
I don't know, all this nice weather just make me really misanthrophic...
-
Having a common currency helps to form the economic interlocking that makes a nation, but it is the common language and transportation networks that really allow for Americans to enjoy an ease of mobility not found in Europe. This means not only can I easily travel to just about any part of my nation, but I can also settle and integrate there. It's not unthinkable to consider moving across the country to pursue economic activities - and such thoughts don't involve looking up visa restrictions or learning another language.
The lack of true cross-regional transportation networks and linguistic differences are the two greatest challenges in front of the EU.

We actually had a bit of rain just now. It suddenly just poured down, literally a shower. For maybe the whole of two minutes, at the max. The ground wasn't even wet afterwards, despite the amount.
The temp.'ve dropped down to 19-20 C too, though, so now it's actually perfect nice weather.

Well today was a cold rainy day with a high of 56oF (13oC). :( For those not from here, there is a saying about the New England weather: "If you are hoping for a change in the weather, then wait a minute." :squint:

After spending a week in Laredo, TX I have determined that there is no reasonable explanation for anyone wanting to be there unless they have to. That place was an OVEN. Best part was driving by a billboard advertising a hot tub business.
Nothing makes me want to get in a hot tub more than working my ass off in 110 degree F weather all day. Bleh.

Bleh.
Given the choice, I'll take the oven. :)

I'm more of a mopey rain person myself.

Hey Charger, did you get any rain yet?

Nope. Been over 5 weeks now without rain...crazy.

How about now? You got rain now?

Oh yeah forgot to mention! YES YES YES! The day before yesterday we got few mm...and again today. Extremely refreshing...I am enjoying the outdoors again.

Here it's been pouring down since yesterday, and supposedly will continue till tuesday. Windy and cold too. Not enjoyable...

100 F today in Dallas, with some monster humidity.
In such a climate, Gold Bond Powder is your best friend.

What's the humidity?
It's 100F and 50% humidity in Dallas. Worse in Houston, I imagine.

70% humidity. Forecast is similar for next 3 days.

Yeah, that's horrible. It's drier here today, but we're supposed to get much more Gulf moisture in the next few days. Might rain, definitely will be more swampy.

But, as I have mentioned before, I truly do enjoy this type of weather for a number of reasons. First off, I have a slender build and always feel chilled in the winter, even in the house. This afternoon I spent a couple of hours trimming hedges and shrubs. Sure it was hot, and I sweated, but I pace myself and it simply amounts to a good workout. Now and then a friend of mine, who has an in ground pool, invites me over. It's a great time no matter how hot it is. Sure can't do anything like that in the winter. I can only think of one negative about summer. I do find it a bit more difficult to sleep. I set the air conditioner at 77o, but I do sleep better in the winter under the comforter with the heat set at 66o. But still, give me that summer heat. 8)
-
I've got trouble regulating my temperature and overheat easily. I stay inside when it's this hot and I'm glad I work from home so I don't have to fool with a hot commute for 60-90 mins.
-
Yesterday was a bit of a different day...a whole day of rain! Now that pleases me.
-
Might rain today, rain more likely over the weekend.
-
Just did the math...it rained total of 39mm last month...which is just little over half of the average June rainfall here...combining that with May's rainfall total of 30mm one can say it's been pretty dry...
-
Call down to Houston, Texas. They've got some rain they'd love for you to pick up and take back to Finland. :)

Pristine blue sky, 35°c since a few days and nights above 20 °C.
Hence my existential question:
should you prick yours sausages before putting them on the BBQ grill ?

If one does not want an explosion, the sausage casing should either be naturally permeable. Failing that, the sausage casing must be pierced to allow for internal pressures to equalize.

my God , again this night:
first thing, I live near a path that leads to the sea. However, since the arrival of heat and long evenings, I see an upsurge of young teens groups who wander late at night, shouting loud as if it was 3 pm and above all, a mobile phone vomiting this infected turd named rap , french version (the worst) or English, or R'n'B rotten by autotune or others Pro-Tool.
Is it me who gets older and becomes intolerant or does youth really have a certain taste for stupidity or at least no taste at all ? So atrocious sound, really. The sad thing is that they all sing on this big shit at midnight so close to houses.
2 things bother me: firstly, the total disrespect of these wankers, secondly, this musical shit polluting the atmosphere.
I guess my desire to mow them like wheat with an AK-47 is normal ... Cold winds and rain , please come back .
I should perhaps consult a psychologist.
sad and final conclusion: Rock is dead.
-
^^^ Yep, I can identify. I live close to the lake, and on the lakefront are cottagers and on occasion it's a bunch of young guys at this one cottage, and I can understand that they're having fun and shit, but man, I never heard such lame fuckin' music! I'm thinking, Is this what young guys listen to nowadays?! Like you said, that Rap/Emo/Dance autotune shit! What a bunch of crap.

Well we're getting older together then buddy as I agree 100% with your sentiments here...
I occationally visit Turku (the "big" city near where I live) and take a walk by the riverside late at night but peaceful it is not as there are these young assholes with their mobile speakers spewing god knows what shit finnish rap or finnish pop or what ever with insanely high volume and if that's not enough then they have to yell to each other because the music is so loud...I mean come on! How fuckin' stupid can a person be?
I'm telling you they're the product of this new liberal parenting where you can't even tell your kids to be quiet let alone teach them a lesson or two....
-
It's up to guys like us to keep real rock and roll music alive. I don't even regard rap as actual music. It's just some guy talking fast with a beat in the background. :puke:
-
^^
Guys , that's what I feared: this shit invaded the whole world. What a disaster !! simply unacceptable behavior.
undoubtedly a symptom of this too permissive society towards these assholes addicted to so dispensable social networks to share lunch pics , selfies, football players haircuts , visible Calvin Klein underpants, reality tv shows and stupid trash talk shows while drinking RedBull. What a mess !
here's the place where they go every night , I live less than 500 m above :

Hey, I remember it wasn't all rosy back in the 70s or 80s... remember disco? Synthpop? Yeah, there's always been that music that the louts have to blare from their speakers that I can't stand... and if it's not the music, it's the idiots drawing pee-pees everywhere and shouting rude things at no one in particular. Kids these days have always been kids these days.

80oF (27oC) with low humidity. Paradise! :partay:
-
Rainy humid mess outside, but cooler than 90 F, so I'll take it.
-
Getting really warm again...
Tomorrow we're probably gonna clock 90F...dry heat though but still pretty warm for these parts. And again no signs of any rains or showers....let alone thunders! :(
-
90 F here in NYC later today, rain very likely for tomorrow.
-
I can beat that!!!
91F here right now...Got quite a sweat on by just washing the car..
And no I did not do it like this:

-
Rain came today, much cooler and nicer. It will be cooler and drier tomorrow. Ahhhhhh!
-
Lots of thunder, lightning and rain in SW Connecticut. We needed it. Day started hot and humid, yuk.
-
Another 90F day today...
Dry as hell again too...
This is getting ridiculous already...and it's gonna cause problems down the line again for a lot of people too as ground water levels are going down...
-
again another series of days with more than 35 ° C (more than 95 F) without a drop of rain.
the 40 °C (104 F) will be exceeded in the south of France this afternoon. wow !!
Heat wave alert for the 3/4 of the country, temperatures will not fall below 20 ° C (68 F) during the night.

Very similar here. Temperature not quite as high, but close. I am going to have an expensive electric bill this summer. Do you have air conditioning, Tyr66?
-
And Spain or Portugal could very easily top the highest temperature ever recorded for mainland Europe in the coming days... 48 °C or 118 °F.
I'm on the south coast of England and with the exception of a few days rain last weekend we have had wall to wall sunshine for something like 8 weeks... unheard of... this is the UK!!! I believe we topped out at 35 °C last week although being on the coast we didn't quite get those numbers.

not at all ! 8) only daily closed windows and opened during the night and we have a tolerable 25 ° C (77 F) in.
-
Yeah, from what I've experienced, European air conditioning is nowhere near as powerful or as widespread as Texas air conditioning.
And it sounds like you all need some Texas-style AC for those Texas-style temperatures. If you live in a detached house, you can get a really fine unit installed for around $11,000 USD. If you live in an apartment, you're probably out of luck.
-
^^^^^^
??? A simple window AC for $200 or $300 will take care of a bedroom or 2.
-
Looks like temp is finally going down a bit next week...
Might even drop to 70s...which is nice.
I've got an ac unit in my bedroom...it's on for most of the day and I can drop the temp around 70 but because the rest of the house is so damn hot it won't take more than an hour or two to climb up to the 80s again...usually even before I can get any sleep...
But if the forecasts are right night time temp should drop to 50 something F next week so I'll be happy...my greenhouse plants not so much..
-
I hear Australia is in the biggest drought in years. Anyone here feeling those effects?
-
^^^^^^

When it's 100-plus heat for an extended period of time and the overnight lows stay in the 80s, that window AC is only going to go so far.
-
Predicted heat wave starting today. 8)

Can I see some weather updates from around the world? :)
Here in Massachusetts, still hitting about 86oF (30oC) everyday this month. :partay: But, with super high humidity. :(
-
Mid-to-low 80s here in Dallas with rain up to Thursday this week, then drying out and a little cooler after that. Early autumn for us.
-
Here it's been pretty damn nice today. 19C and sunny, not bad for September.
-
Pretty darn warm here too for September...70sF...which is REALLY not common around these parts..and it's still about 60 and almost midnight!
-
No rain for almost 3 weeks and still near 25 °C (77 °F) around 16:00 (4.00 pm) every days.
Unusual drought here for this first week of September in the west of the country. Just a few drops of rain expected during the next 2 weeks.
Pleasant time.

Same here in SW Connecticut. Did you get any of that storm on Thursday 9/6? I did and it took out my modem. Had to wait 5 days for service. Do you have Frontier TV/Internet available up there? Their TV and internet is great but their service sucks.
-
Carolinas about to get a really nasty storm... Cat4 hurricane that stalls out, like what happened with Harvey in Texas last year. The winds will be grinding down on those coastal towns mercilessly, but the floods are going to be the biggest sources of damage and disruption.

Yeah looks pretty ugly...I'd love to be there now though...but I wouldn't like to own anything over there now.

Heavy winds, but that was all from the storm.
I get my internet with Charter Communications, but I do not subscribe to their television service.

Gotta give some weather information again..
It's gonna be unseasonably warm again later this week...with temps going up to 17C (63F)...that's pretty close to the all time high in October which is 19.4C (66F) from 1985.
Nights are getting chilly though...had couple of below 0C freezing nights already....one of which froze my brugmansias... :(
Couple of nice little storms too and a good ammount of rain....
Loving this warm fall weather though.
-
Warm here too. Yesterday 79oF (26C).
Today's high 73o (23C).
-
Yesterday almost 85
Today about 65
Tomorrow may just touch 60
-
Sheesh, all that heat... meanwhile, Texas is upside down. Tons of rain, temps in the 50s on the F scale and in the low teens on the C scale.
Central Texas is about to wash away, some overwhelming rainfall down around Austin. There's a chance of failed dams in some locations.
-
^^^^^^
Wow! Hope things improve there, Zzz. At least it's not a hurricane.
Seasonable, here. High of 58oF (15oC).
-
Had a nice sunny day today, hope the ground gets a chance to dry out a little before the next round starts.
-
Got our first snow here in SW Connecticut, about 3"... 7.5cm. but at this time it's a frozen mix and will warm up and rain tomorrow, uh today.
-
Going to be nice and sunny in Dallas today and tomorrow, then gray and rain on Sunday.
-
Cold rain and cloudy grey sky , we must switch on the lights near 5.30 pm .
I really hate November and December with this Christmas time year after year .
-
Mild weather here in Dallas, lots of sun. I'm pleased with what we've got.
-
Chilly and cloudy today. Sun sets at about 5:00 pm. Could be worse. Could be a lot better :)
-
-4C (25F) here and about an inch or so snow on the ground...Not horrible for the time of year...but could be warmer.
Tomorrow is the shortest day of the year... Sun rises around 9:35am and sets around 3:15pm.
-
We have been having a very mild winter so far. That being said there was a wicked wind storm last week that caused a lot of damage and left many here on the island without power.
It has only gone to 1 degrees Celsius which is unusual for my area as usually it goes down to minus 5 or so.
-
60-65 here today, 15-16 C
LOTS OF RAIN
-
We've got a huuuge storm coming in the morning...up on the northern sea areas around Finland we've already had 34m/s gusts (that's 76mph) which is quite unusual for these parts.
It should reach the south west part where I live early morning with potential land gusts of 25m/s (56mph)...which is huge. That's major damage around these parts...and adding the snowfall to that...it's gonna be an interesting morning for sure.
-

Stay safe Charger, evacuate if they tell you to.

Wild weather here in Sydney the past couple of weeks. Gone from massive storms (hailstones the size of golf balls!) to extreme heatwaves. That's Australian summer for you. :)
-
^ Sounds like Texas. :D
Meanwhile, Texas winter is bringing *just enough* ice to cause major delays at the airport, and I've got a flight today to NYC. Meh.

Do you have a generator in case of a power outage, Charg? :glitch:

I don't. Power was out but only for about an hour. Most of the power cables are ground cables nowadays here already so the outages aren't as common anymore as they used to...or as long lasting.
So this storm was a record breaking storm.
The highest ever recorded 10 minute average wind speed 32.5m/s (72.7mph).
Highest ever recorded gust 41.6m/s (93pmh)
I know if you live in hurricane region these are nothing but considering where Finland is and that severe storm is 25m/s (55mph) these numbers are quite extraordinary.
The worst didn't hit here where I live though. So no storm damage...luckily.
-
^^Sounds like the same weather front that hit Denmark and caused that fatal train accident over the big suspension bridge?
-
Yeah part of that same system I believe. It was a huge weather front.
-
Meanwhile, the weather here in New York is sunny, cold, and rather lovely for this time of year.
-
Just gone past 42C (104F)in Melbourne today. Hottest day for three years. Some parts of the state have reached a stifling 47C. Cool change is on the way though. It'll drop to 20C in a few hours time.
Only in Melbourne can you get severe sunburn and catch a cold on the same day :)
-
^^^^ That's crazy man. :o
-
^^ Yep. Temperature peaked at 43C just after 4pm today. It’s now just after 7pm and the temperature has plummeted to a cool 18C

Something is definitely wrong with the environment, don’t tell me we’re not having global warming.
-
Something is definitely wrong with the environment, don’t tell me we’re not having global warming.
We are, I don't think there is a question about that. I think the question is just how much of it is humanity's doing and how much of it is caused by other more natural causes.
Also it is quite possible that on the long run Sun's decreased activity will null out the global warming....and in fact might change the climate to even colder...the signs are already there.

-
What are the signs Charger?
Well the Sun's activity is getting to an all time low now and it is possible that in the next solar cycle the activity will be so low that it can cause a miniture ice age.
https://www.iflscience.com/environment/we-could-be-heading-mini-ice-age-2030/ (https://www.iflscience.com/environment/we-could-be-heading-mini-ice-age-2030/)
"In cycle 26, the two waves exactly mirror each other – peaking at the same time but in opposite hemispheres of the Sun. Their interaction will be disruptive, or they will nearly cancel each other. We predict that this will lead to the properties of a 'Maunder minimum',"
The Maunder minimum took place in the late 1600s which caused severe climate change...resulting in extremely cold weather and caused famine all over europe.
The Earth's climate is a very complex entity of it's own but is still 100% dependable on the Sun...so when the Sun cools down so does the Earth no matter of the greenhouse effect.

I don't know where I saw it, but according to Neil DeGrasse Tyson global warming is inevitable. He went into great detail about the atmosphere, carbon emissions and the resulting weather changes. He made it very easy to understand and made perfect sense. He made a believer out of me.

The thing is Bog, that a lot of Republicans are saying Global warning is not real. How can they say that when it’s evident?
-
I think it's important to stress that most global warming is in the polar regions. Even with a Maunder Minimum coming up, we're going to see overall temperature increases in polar regions to the point where we can see some significant ice cap melt. Melted ice caps can mean drastic temperature changes in the surrounding oceans, with implications for ocean currents and the life they support.
Another way of looking at it is that there's sufficient polar warming for China and Russia to want to secure the region as a faster transit route from Asia to Europe. Global warming means changing geopolitical realities and failure to acknowledge it will leave a nation vulnerable on those fronts.

Well okay then...
It's snowing like crazy out right now...
Forecast says there might be as much as 5 inches of new snow by morning...
That is waaaaay too much snow for my liking.
Stupid winter.
-
^^Meanwhile most of the country here has been sweltering in 40 plus degree temperatures all week.
-
Well damn...that's warm....too warm.
Anyways the 5 inch forecast was pretty accurate. Measured 12cm of snow on the yard...
Took a better part of an hour to plow it out with my little lawnmower tractor plow....
-

One of these days I've got to visit the Southern Hemisphere. 8)

This is an interesting weekend here in Missouri. We were supposed to get a lot of snow and cold.
As it turns out, we received a little ice and a little snow, and not quite as cold.
But...
It is -7 Celsius, wind chill of -16, and it is getting colder as the day progresses. The roads are horrid. Half an hour ago there was a snow plow driver that flew off the road and died. Wrecks everywhere because we got more ice than snow.
What all of this means for me is that my wife and I are being hermits until Monday :) This gives me the opportunity to do a few things I've been putting off:
1. Pull down my test network environment and set it back up in a new rack I acquired a couple of weeks ago.
2. Listen to a lot of records.
3. Have a couple of drinks.
4. Listen to a lot of records.
5. Sit next to my wife and hold her while we watch the sunset later on.
6. Listen to a lot of records.
Sometimes there's nothing better than being shut in for a couple of days. This is one of those times for me!

Hey Vyn, what's the forecast for tomorrow's game over there?
Mid twenties and cloudy. Should be a good one!
-
Today , sweet 13 °C sunny with few rain. Unusually hot in January.

Saint Goustan , near my home town.Benjamin Franklin, when he wanted to join Nantes, was forced by the wind to land here in 1776 before going to Louis XVI to ask for his support against England.
-
Well okay then....
Things just got real.
Temp is now: -24C (That's -11F)!!!
Holy fat icy moses! That Is COLD! And it's just midnight now...the coldest moment is usually around 6-7am so It'll probably drop a degree or two more...
Coldest temp in the last 2 years atleast in these parts! It was -36C (which is about the same in F!!!) in lapland today, tomorrow colder I am sure...goddamn. GODDAMN I say!
-
Fun fact: the arctic regions' heating up means there's more cold stuff to push down on the temperate zones, making for more extreme winters. I'm just glad that Texas has so far dodged any nasty winter stuff so far. We're having plenty of cold, but the usual stretch of of about 6-7 days with really nice weather in January hasn't happened this year, and it doesn't look likely.

Well, your teeth must be chattering. You've got 2 "so far"s and an "of of" in that post. ;D
-
So far we have had a super mild winter. No snow and only going as low as 0 degrees Celsius. This has been the warmest winter that I have experienced on the Island and is admittedly one of the reasons I love where I live. After living in Hawaii for a year I began to hate snow, and I still have a disdain for it even now.

Not gonna lie, it's cold out there. And in here, as well. My office is far from the central thermostat, so its temp. varies more than the middle of the house.
-
I can't compete with Charger, but last night's low was +4oF (-15oC). Tonight is suppose to be the same. No snow to speak of this winter so far, though.

Show is great when you are a kid. :wootwoot: But as an adult, when you have to shovel it and drive in it, it sucks. :squint:

Show is great when you are a kid.
Unless you get socked in the mouth with a snowball and can't say "snow" correctly :)
-
Snow's a bad show!
Well it was -27C (-17F) this morning...THAT IS COLD!
Man I hate winter...stupid polar vortex too can suck my ice cold...door handle.

Another 40 degree day here in Melbourne today with an uncomfortable night ahead with the overnight temperature tipped not to drop below 30c before picking up again tomorrow with the mercury set to hit a scorching 45c tomorrow
-
That is absolutely crazy temps....
In the meanwhile here we got yet another inch of snow...how bloody lovely. Yesterday was another inch...but temp was around -1C (30F)...but today it dropped a bit again showing -6C now...and on sunday we're going back down to -25C....
Stupid winter.
-
Oh yeeeeeeeeyy! Another inch of snow. How lovely...NOT.
-
It is so odd that the temperature so far this year has not gone below 0 degrees Celsius!!!
I do not know if it is Global Warming or just one of those freaks of nature things. The Cherry Blossoms are starting to bud and so are some of the other trees. Winter is almost over and even the rain has been mild compared to previous years and it has not snowed once either.
-

It's the Polar Vortex. It slipped on this side which means very cold weather for northern Europe and warmer weather to Canada. And El Nino is pushing warmer weather up the coast that way too so it's a double effect really.
In northern Finland this winter's cold record was just set at -37.8C which you can just pretty convert straight to F...
Now here it's actually quite warm -3.5C (25F) but it is snowing...AGAIN! >:(

I see - fascinating, and I should mention that in my particular part of Canada winters are usually mild. They do have days that are below 0 Celsius though in all the winters I have lived here. That would be 18 years now.
-
Well guess what people!??!
Yup..
Snow.
More
fuckin'
snow.
ARGH.
-
It will be around 70F here in Dallas in a few days. I'll take it!
-
Today is average temps, in the 30sF. But for the next 2 days we will be getting smacked with this polar vortex deal with highs around 15oF (-10oC). However, no snow.
-
Yup:

Aaaan whooppi fuckin' doo daa!
5 inches of snow today...and it's wet too...just spent 2 hours cleaning the yard...
I AM SO SICK OF THIS SHIT already...
I think we just passed the 20 inch mark on overall snow ammount.
-
Meanwhile we've just had our hottest January on record and up north in the state of Queensland they've had monsoonal record rainfalls with some parts having up to a metre of rain falling in the past 7 days. A lot of flooding. Crazy stuff!
-
If we don't have enough freezes in Texas, we're going to have some ferocious numbers of mosquitoes this year.
-
:partay: Nice day today! Temps above average, 45oF (8oC). Spent the morning outside with the chainsaw cutting wood for the rest of the winter.
I feel for Charger. There has been past winters when I am overloaded with snow.
-
Cold here today - minus 5 Celsius and a little bit of snow. This is the first time it has gone down below freezing this year. It looks as if the cold is going to be with us for the next week and a half.
-
Felt like summer today, walking around in short sleeves and shorts.
-
Well it has been snowing for the last three days and that is very unusual for this area, at least in the amount that we have gotten so far. It does snow in late January early February occasionally but usually only for a day or so and very lightly. This is the most snow I have seen here on the Island since moving here 18 years ago. :zomg:
-
Been pretty nice couple of days actually.... Temp's been around +5C (40F) and sunny...very spring like actually...in the dead of winter. I like it. Plus the snow is melting fast! :ninja:
-
wonderful sunny last week !
cold morning (41F/5°C) followed by a sweety afternoon (60 F/16°C).
Despite a stubborn flu for a week, I can finally enjoy this february unusual weather and a beneficial sleep these last 2 nights.
-
It’s a bit chilly today, yesterday was warm.
-
Cold and sunny today, cold and wet tomorrow.
-
Earlier this week we had nice +5C (40F) weather and now it's -9C (16F) and it's suppose to be -20C (-4F) in the morning... Winter ain't done with me yet I see...
-
so confortable sunny 16°C (61F) today !! usual weather confitions of an April day in this end of February .
Less than 5°C (41F) at the same time one year ago .
-
Partly cloudy today, which means mostly sunny. I'll take it!
-
Strange day today... 7C (45F)...that's quite unseasonably warm...beautiful day too with sunny skies and nice warm wind. Almost surreal really.
-
Hey ZZ, how've you been makin' out with all that wild weather in Texas?
-
Oh what's been going on in texas?
-
Nothing but rain here in Jersey. :(
-
Yeah, there were some tornadoes last week and we're about to get another round of severe storms this week. It's expected spring weather here, where tornadoes pretty much hit out in the country (because there is a lot of country, relative to urban areas... matter of percentages, not because cities are immune) and hail hits everywhere.
There is so much hail damage in north Texas, it gives us some very high car insurance rates and I think the highest home insurance rates in the USA.
-
Summer has arrived...atleast for the weekend..
Temp's 24C (75F) and it's sunny...really nice...not too hot and a nice little breeze too...
On the shittier note: stupid birch.

Well...I am glad I'm good at something atleast! :D
-
Meanwhile, the rain stopped long enough for my son to mow the front yard before going in to work... and we have vacation next two weeks, so it was now or never!
-
We had this summer's first thunder yesterday!
Pretty active too...distance was just about right as well...closest hit was about a mile away. Me likes.
Today's CAPE suggests we might get another one...here's hoping.
-
Tropical storm season starting up over here. First wave of big tropical moisture hits here tomorrow.
-
Warmest day of the year today...we topped 30C (85F)...warm...too warm for me.
And on anther note pretty cool looking sand storm around ZZZ's neck of the woods I see...

Crazy weather this two last weeks !
the last saturday : 30 °c , sunny day .
Today : Miguel Storm with some 100km/h winds .
A pic from Quiberon this afternoon , less than a hour from my hometown by car :

WOW, that is beautiful Tyr66.

Had a massive storm yesterday afternoon. Winds here were over 100 km/h / 60 MPH. Lots of trees cracked and blown over in the winds. Some minor damage to my trees, but much worse happened in the neighborhoods around me.
-
Power being restored to neighborhoods nearby, but that caused several fluctuations today with my own power. Looks to be settled for now.
-
Oh....storms are awesome but when they cause damage then they aren't quite so cool anymore. Good to hear you made it through buddy!
-

Yeah, storms in the USA are the best argument for below-ground power lines. Tree falls over, you keep power.

Yeah, storms in the USA are the best argument for below-ground power lines. Tree falls over, you keep power.
True but it would raise the price of electricity quite a bit. We had a huuuge project here putting most of the powerlines below ground...it nearly doubled the price of electricity for the average home owner...crazy. And here there really wasn't much need for it but the idiot politicans decided to make it a law that no poweroutage can last more than 24h....so power companies reacted and the consumer paid the price.

Suppose to be a hot weekend coming up. In the 90's. 8)
-
Currently it is 97 degrees F with a heat index of 110 at my home.
-
At this very moment, heavy rain, frequent lighting and thunder. I'd swear it is the beginning of Sabbath's debut album. All I need is to hear the bells toll. :death:
-
Heat wave is coming...
It's been around 75-77F for the past few days but at the end of the week it is expected to climb over 30C (85F)...too hot for my liking.
-
They think we might break our record in the UK sometime this week... currently 36.7C from 2015.
EDIT: that's the July record apparently we've had a 38C in August.
-
Summer so far here has been pretty average...actually maybe even bit below average temp wise...
But ofcourse it'll go waaay over the average then when it starts to get warmer... >:(
-
It was sunny today but our summer has been very mild with many overcast days. That is fine with me as I prefer it to be a bit cool outside.
-
38°C already at noon in full south side of the house. 25°C in the house. Not easy to sleep under the roof with 30°C in the bedrooms.
we had only 2 or 3 days of rain since the beginning of the month. It's even hotter in the rest of the country, which has the bad effect of seeing many more tourists here in the west of the country in Brittany where the heat is always less intense because of the Atlantic ocean proximity.
-
Yikes Tyr! That's seriously HOT!
Man I'm sweating just thinking about it!
-

That's what Vyn and I had this past weekend. I still prefer it verses freezing temps, though. 8)

Yes, wise guy, but mostly for sleeping. In the winter, I have a heater. :smug:
-
Cool day here in North Carolina, after a big wave of storms yesterday.
-
They were expecting it to break the all time record in the UK today (38.5C back 2003) but we didn't quite manage that only hitting 38.1C near Cambridge, it should be cooler tomorrow.
-
32.6C (91F) high for me today... That's pretty warm..
They say it might top 33 tomorrow...
-
Spectacular this weekend (in contrast to last weekend), 82oF (28oC) and low humidity. 8)
-
Looks like we're in for a tropical night... 20C now and it's 12:30....
-
Well high for today was 34.2C (94F)...safe to say it was pretty warm. Haven't had temps like that in several years I believe.
It's gonna get somewhat colder next week...barely reaching to 20C anymore...dramatic drop.
-
94F here in Dallas, TX... but for us, that's a nice, normal summer high temperature for July. August is when we expect the 100+ days.
Summer is coming...
-
Well quite a dramatic drop in temp now.
Sunday we had that 34C (94F) and now it's 17C (63F)!!!! Feels COLD.
-

We get pairs of days like that in Texas. As I get older, they can make me miserable, almost like catching a cold for a day or two because of the swing in temperature.
-
Tornado went through northern Dallas County, but did not affect my neighborhood. Me and mine are safe here.
-
Caught that on the news, glad to hear you weren't in its path!
-
Wow! Isn't it bit off season for Tornadoes already?
-
Wow! Isn't it bit off season for Tornadoes already?
Not in Texas. We had one in December a year ago, really nasty one. I think only in January and February we're not worried about tornadoes popping up. And, even then, we can have the big cold front from Canada hitting the hot, humid air from the Gulf of Mexico that kicks off these storms that produce tornadoes and monster hail.
-
It's 57F in my house today. Heater broke and we found out because we had a sudden freeze. Fortunately, the repair company is sending a tech over today to fix it up. :)
-
Thank goodness the furnace guy showed up. Had a clogged exhaust tube, so no way would the heater start until it got cleaned out.
-
Had to use the snowblower for 5 inches of snowfall today. First time this winter. Kind of early for my area. :squint:
-
We had some snow (about 2 or so inches) on Friday...now it's luckily melting away again.
-
It's almost summer here in Chile. Next week, I'm in NYC, where it will be a lot like winter...

-
Maybe you can mess with the exposure settings to get the right view... but, then again, taking pictures of lights is always fraught with troubles...
-
Indeed....but I guess you get the idea of the tree there.
-
Meanwhile, weather... I just went from sunny and hot in Chile to sunny and friggin' cold in NYC. 32C to 1C...
-
Well a messed up day ahead today.
It's 43F now and raining and by evening it should drop to 30F or below which means everything it gonna freeze up like crazy...I hate this kind of shit.
-
That is the exact weather I'm having out here!
-
Meanwhile, weather... I just went from sunny and hot in Chile to sunny and friggin' cold in NYC. 32C to 1C...
Sounds like typical Melbourne from one day to the next, or even one hour to the next.
38c today, our hottest day so far since summer started Dec 1. Down to a fresh 16c tomorrow.
-
My AccuWindow(TM) weather tracker indicates it is grey and rainy outside. Glad I only have to walk one block to where I'm working in NYC.
-
Luckily it stopped raining last night before the temp went below freezing so not everything is covered in inch thick ice...
-
Yesterday and today, raining off and on, with temperatures in the 50s F. Fine with me! :partay:
-
Nice today, 1-3" of snow starting after midnight. Good thing I packed my cold weather gear!
-
Two solid days of rain now...I like rain but it's been bit tiresome now with the constant rain for the past month.
But hey things could be worse...it could have been snow! Which would have meant we'd have more than 5 feet of snow now!
-
Cloudy today, rain later tonight and tomorrow morning, when I fly back to Dalals.
-
A new record high temperature in Australia! 49.8C (122F)!!!
Haven't seen Jack around in a few days...hope he hasn't melted away yet!
-
Suppose to stay below freezing for the next 2 days. Although there will be no precipitation, this is the type of weather I hate. :squint:
-
A new record high temperature in Australia! 49.8C (122F)!!!
Haven't seen Jack around in a few days...hope he hasn't melted away yet!
He may be celebrating a Christmas barbeque at the beach!
-
Quite a strom out there now....
Just took a small walk on the yard and it's filled with tree debris already and we're only half way through the storm...no actual damage yet as far as I could tell in the dark but it's still early...
Haven't had a storm like this in a while.
-
^^^
I suspect that's the same storm that we are in the tail end of, it seemed to be heading off in your direction. They've said it's the worst storm here in 7 or 8 years, lots of disruption to transport (but this is the UK so it doesn't take much!) and the Manchester City v West Ham match was called off!!
-
It was indeed!
Quite a night. As I was working all night too it was interesting to follow the storm. The gusts weren't quite as strong as on some past storms but the sustained winds were very high.
There was a shitload of tree debris everywhere but thankfully that was about it...no big damage around these parts.
It's still quite windy out there which is bit abnormal. Usually as the storm passes winds die down fast...now it's still blowing strong...
-
We had a bunch of snow yesterday, but the temperature was about 34 (1 C) all day and it was mostly just a sloppy mess.
A cold front rolled in over night, it is 4 (-15 C) right now, with some moderate wind giving us a wind chill of -18 (-27 C) and all that slush that accumulated is now hard has a brick. The roads are an ice rink.
-
Hardly any snow thus far in 2020. :) Temperature has gone above freezing mark nearly everyday. Pretty unusual around here for January and February.
-
Not much snow here either...the last time it's been this snowless was in the 70s...Another one like this was also in 2007. But that only lasted a better part of january now we're already in feb...
Most likely there will be no winter at all in south west Finland this year...and funnily just 500 miles north there's more than 2 feet of snow! In areas record breaking snowfall so...
-
This weekend we have Storm Dennis hitting the UK (it might be heading off to Chargers realm shortly after!!), I believe the winds won't be quite as strong as last weekend but there will be a lot more rain!
-
Indeed... The forecast says it'll hit here on Sunday night.
Yeah both wind and rainfall isn't expected to be quite as heavy as last week's one but still a proper storm.
Luckily I don't have to work that night so I can just sit and have a drink and watch it blow.
-
The bomb cyclone over Europe made the news here... major flooding in the UK.
-
Did more damage in the UK that one... Here it wasn't nearly as strong as the one last week...it still had some good blows but nothing like Ciara.
-
Yes, while still windy, it wasn't as bad as last week... but boy did it rain!! There were over 250 flood warnings and lots of flooding!
-
Meanwhile, in Dallas, Texas, spring has started.
-
Another storm another inch of rain!
I think so far the rainfall has been nearly triple of february norm...and all rain too which is quite unusual.
-
It's been a very wet winter here, as well. Moderate temperatures, too - we're hardly wearing sweaters, let alone coats.
-
It's been a pretty hot two weeks here...about 80F every day....today we're expected to top 30C (86F) which is a limit we don't even cross every year.
Very dry too...it hasn't rained much all month. Which was ofcourse to be expected as it rained so much last year and during the winter. But I am bit surprised about the temps as we had the warmest winter in a long time I was expecting a very cool summer too...but I guess the coldest spring in recorded history made up for that though....
-
We're getting the start of the Sahara Dust Cloud here in the USA. May lead to more rain here with all that stuff in the air.
-
It's so hot here, I learned the C version of the temperature so I could talk about it with my international customers.
100F = 37.7 C, round it up to 38.
-
We had couple of weeks of really cold rainy weather...temps around 15C (below 60F)...
But now it's sunny again and temp's up to the mid 70s (24C) again. Sadly my allergies are back too then...
-
37.5 today... cooled off a little!
:facepalm2:
-
Wow...that's pretty dramatic drop...That's almost freezing... like 5C or something...how's that possible?
-
37.5 C.
:problem:
-
Oh...
I'll get me coat...
:buhbye:
-
Lol, happens to the best of us, Charger! :D
All this week in Texas it's going to be that hot and very, very humid.
-
In the past we have odd days when the temperature hits 30C and a series of days where the temp might consistently be over 25C. It's been consistently low to mid-30s since Thursday. That never happens. And some inland areas have had nighttime figures that haven't dropped below 20C and have been still 26C at 11PM.
Just to clarify this is the UK, I appreciate those figures are nothing compared to Texas or Australia! But the world is definitely warming up!
-
Been drought conditions here in New England for the past month and a half. Nothing more than a rare pop up shower. Driest summer in quite a few years. Normal temperatures though. Everyday in the 80sF (28 to 32C).
-
In the USA, the states of Iowa and Illinois almost got completely blown into Lake Michigan with the Derecho storm system that passed through.
-
Two pretty warm days here still...Yesterday was 27C (81F) and today 28C...
Next week they're still saying it might be around 25C...so it's pretty nice still...and no sign of rains either...farmers like that as it's getting near harvesting season.
What I'm hoping is that this warm season will end with a bang with massive tunderstorms...it can happen...we've had those MCS's here before after a long hot season late in the summer...
-
^^^^^^
??? MCS's?
----------------
Rain all day today, finally. :)

Mesoscale Convective System:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mesoscale_convective_system (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mesoscale_convective_system)
A fantastic thunderstorm cell...biggest we have here on a yearly basis...we do have the occational Derecho as well but those are very rare and to my knowlage one has never happened in this region..some have been reported on the lake district in the middle of the country.
-
We had a line of thunderstorms last night, first rain this month. Quite a good soaker, as well.
Much cooler and drier behind the front: high today should be 93F / 34C and humidity around 30%. It's still really humid, just not suffocatingly so.

He's not even in a REAL country! Where does he get off telling all of us in actual nations how to weather! :D
-
Meanwhile, I'm getting my doors replaced. Having gaps you can see sunlight through is NOT what you want in a Texas summer! That means the heat and humidity are getting IN, not what I want. My office is the worst - it's much hotter than the rest of the house. When I was travelling last year, I didn't notice or mind it as much.
Now that I'm home 100% of the time, we're gonna get that FIXED!

Well I have been a storm buff my entire life so I to tend to know a thing or two and been with storm watchers groups and sites I've gotten used to using the "proper" terminology.. :)
Didn't mean to sound like a wise ass or anything... O:-)
-
Actually, I really like storm talk. We have LOTS of big storms here in Texas, and it's valuable to know your enemy, so to speak.
Where I live has the highest insurance rates in the USA because of the constant wind and hail damage, courtesy of the massive thunderstorm lines we get every spring and fall.
-
Well not a lot of storms in these parts so that's what makes them even more special...especially thunderstorms.
Today's a rainy day. There was a possibility of severe thunderstorms as well as the moisture levels high in the atmosphere and the CAPE was expected to be high but sadly a full cloud coverage killed that...so we've just been having steady mild to moderate rain.... bugger.
This also marks the end of summer then...next week temps should drop below 20C...so bye bye summer...welcome autumn.
-
^^^^^^
And what would "CAPE" mean, for us ignorant peasants? :squint:
-
Convective
Available
Potential
Energy
CAPE is measured in Joules per kilogram in the atmosphere. Higher the CAPE stronger the possibility of a thunderstorm.
Normally CAPE is under 50 J/Kg and when it reaches higher than 250 it can mean thunder...when it reaches higher than 400 then strong thunder and if higher than 800 then severe thunder with high gusts... In the US supercells can have CAPE's up to 3000 J/kg!
-
Yes, we get those here in Dallas. MASSIVE buggers!
We're supposed to have a pair of tropical events hit the Texas coast this week and likely track up over the Dallas area for some rain midweek. Never had a pair of tropical storms or worse hit so close together, timewise.
-
Getting bit anxious now as a massive storm is predicted to hit tomorrow.
Winds up to 25m/s (56mph) in gusts even on land...that's rather huge in these parts of the world.
Severe storm damage is expected.
I love storms but I am little worried about some of the big trees surrounding my house...
-
Ones with shallow roots are most at risk. If you know the general direction the winds are blowing in, you can get an idea of what's most in danger of a falling tree on your property.
I remember seeing one of my trees uprooted by a storm back in 2014. It was about 35 feet tall, 10m I think, and took a whole day to clear out with my neighbors helping.
EDIT: Buy your chainsaw now, before the storm.
-
Yeah I bought my chainsaw 15 years before this storm so I'm good in that department! :D
The big thing is that the wind comes from a rare direction of straight north...the last time we had that was in 2011 around christmas and it did hell of a damage all around these parts. And that was winter so no leaves in trees...the risk now is even greater then...
I am bit concerned...yes I am.
-
Yes, those leaves are all going to catch the wind. Maybe if you could a little preventative pruning, it might make a difference.
-
The weather is warm for October: 18 Centigrades above zero.
-
Same here in Texas, but that's cool for us. :D
-
Warmest Christmas in many years, 61oF (16oC) right now. Good thing too, as there is a heavy rain storm today. Freezing temperatures would have made this a blizzard.
-
Pretty average christmas here...temp's just around 0C (32F)...a bit of snow landed..barely visible ammount but it made the ground bit grey in places...It'll drop down to around -5C tonight which is cold enough for me.
I remember in the mid 90s there was a christmas with temps around -25C (-13F) and that was bloody freezing...don't miss that at all.
-
Mid-sixties today here in Dallas.
-
Thank you Storm Bella... not only did you keep me awake all night but you also took a fence panel down, and spread the wheelie-bins around the garden!
-
Sunny and warm here in Dallas - we'll get our big storms, come April.
-
Got a bit of a windy day today. Temp thankfully came up a bit and we're two degrees above freezing which is nice...but the windchill is brutal though. So no out door activities for me today.
-

I was wondering if our storm last night was heading your way?
-
I'm not sure if that same storm is what's blowing here now..maybe it is. Seems to be a fast moving one so it is possible and based on the weather satellite data it probably is.
-
Rain next two days, may turn to snow or (more likely) ice by Thursday.
-
It's about 38 F here at six thirty in the evening. In ten hours the snow is supposed to start, turning to freezing rain by six AM. Off and on tomorrow, tomorrow night, and Wednesday.
We'll see. Our local weather folks are notorious for hyping weather-drama.
-
My hip and knee are predicting rain in 2 days.
-
They're predicting 20 inches of snow here next week...
Fuck that shit.
I hate snow...I hate winter. Where's the damn global warming when you need it!??!
-
Snow snow and more fuckin' snow!
:squint:
:wall:
-
Snow snow and more fuckin' snow!
:squint:
:wall:
Mild and wet here... you really were born in the wrong country! :)
-
Cold and clear weather here in Dallas. We had some snowfall on Sunday, but the temps were above freezing, so there was no accumulation.l
-
Snow snow and more fuckin' snow!
:squint:
:wall:
Mild and wet here... you really were born in the wrong country! :)
In may ways that is true.
So we got about 10 inches of that white shit yesterday...Goddamn...I mean...GODDAMN!
Now my back hurts from all the shoveling...
-
No snow here, just weather to help us recover from last summer and to brace for the one coming up.
-
And now comes the infernal cold...
It's 10(F) now and is expected to be -10(F) by night!!
In case I haven't mentioned this yet..
I
HATE
WINTER
!!
-
The weather gurus are calling for rain tonight, turning to snow by the the morning and blizzard conditions all day tomorrow.
-
Sunny through Monday, then buckets of rain starting next Tuesday.
-
Ugh...another -20C night...thank god don't have to go out there tonight!
-
Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiice day in Texas.
-
This Winter has been incredibly mild so far this year but we are expected to get below 0 Celsius for the next few days. Truly I am blessed to live in the only part of Canada that gets little to no snow during this season.
-
Rain for the next week, here.
-
Ugh...another -20C night...thank god don't have to go out there tonight!
Since we are currently reviewing it, play a little Keep It Warm.
-
^^^
Haha! That song won't keep me warm! It just leaves me cold.
Another 4 inches of snow today...
Thankfully though the temp got better though...around 0C (32F) now....which is nice....r.
-
Well we're back down to -14C (7F) which is cold enough but at the end of the week it should plummet down to below -20C (-5F) again... >:(
-
Highs close to 70F here until the weekend, then in the 50s F. So that's around 20C for the next few days, then dropping to 10C on the weekend.
-
Charger, I think you may have missplaced your weather, I think I've found it over here! Cold weather coming in from the east tonight and tomorrow with snow warnings!
-
Yeah, we're supposed to have ice and snow here in Dallas by around Thursday and through the weekend. NOT WANT.
-
Sorry but sadly I haven't missplaced the weather here...still the same cold shit...only getting colder in fact. Below -20C is expected again next week...
I am getting so goddamn fed up with this stupid winter shit already! Where's that global warming when you need it!??!
-
The snow didn't quite reach as far west as us (a brief flurry but it didn't settle), but the east of England has had some disruption. Temps below freezing, but not as low as you're getting Charger.
-
Snow is supposed to start around Thursday here, several days below freezing all day for us after that. BRRRR!
-
Below freezing? Brrr? Really? Go buy some pants! :D
-18C (0F) here at the moment.
-

Pants, nothing, I'm in the market for shoes and socks at this point! :D
-
Getting an ice storm now in Dallas. No snow, just ice. Rain is falling and then freezes after it hits the ground. Once the ground is saturated at the surface, the ice layer builds up. One of those days where it's safer to walk on grass than on the sidewalk.
-
The UK got it's lowest temperature in over 25 years last night, Breamar in Scotland hit -22.9C. Here on the south coast we probably only hit -5 to -7 last night... Charger's probably laughing into his coffee at such temperatures... but it's low for us!
-
I got a friend in Manitoba, Canada that had -40 last night.
He tried to open his hot tub outside, but the lid was frozen.
Imagine a Canadian in a Speedo, spending 2 minutes trying to break the ice on his hot tub lid... my Texas mind boggles at that, but I would imagine a much more northern view of things would understand. :)
-
Started the day today at 6F, something like -13 C, right? Tomorrow is supposed to start at 2F, -15 C, but it may be colder than that. First time in Dallas' history that we've had a wind chill warning issued for how cold the wind will make things outside.
-
Our little cold snap is over. Rainy overnight but about 12/13C today.
-
High today is 0 F (-17C). Which it is right now. Last night and today have been the coldest so far, got down to -13 F (-25C) where I live overnight, wind chills about -35 F (-37C). Been snowing for about five hours, but very lightly, might end up with a couple of inches total - on top of the few we got last week.

-
Any of my American friends suffering in the cold? Anyone lost their power? Hoping your weather improves quickly!
-
Kept power here, save for one 15-min outage on Sunday, water system in Dallas still good, but many neighboring communities are on boil orders. Gas and groceries in short supplies due to trucks not being able to get through, but we should be out of the freezing conditions by Saturday afternoon.
East coast is set to get the band of snow we got yesterday later this week, and that's the story from Texas. Back to you in the studio, KDC!
-
Hehey! Is it colder in Texas than in Finland?!?!?
The world has officially ended, but not from global warming but from global freezing! New ice age is coming...originating from Texas!
+1.2C (34F) here right now and some slight drizzle.
-
33F here, but we may get past Finland to-day! Come on, Texas, warm up! Warm up! :D
-
We’ve had a string of about 5 days in the 30 plus Celsius range but cooling down to about 21c today. I haven’t been following this thread but both my kids said on seperate occasions this week, “you know it’s snowing in Texas?” My kids have happy memories of Texas.
What’s going on there Z? It’s not snowing in Dallas/Fort Worth area is it? How many times has Texas seen snow through history?
-
We got something like 6-8 inches, all told. That's 15-20cm. Last round was on Wednesday and we got above freezing on Friday, in the 70s now - 20C.
Normally, we'll get ice instead of snow, and it'll be a day or two of the mess. This round, however, was deeply cold and unprecedented. Nothing in the state power grid was ready for temps like these, and we even had baseline coal and nuclear power stations going offline with frozen control systems.
-
Our office in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, had a water main break, and froze. A couple of the guys down there thought it was the end times. Thankfully that arctic air is back in the arctic.
-
Well, Texas weather bounces back. 80F / 27C yesterday.
-
I already thought spring would have arrived as we had pretty nice +7c (45F) sunny days last week...but oh no...no no no no...nothing positive my way...fuck no.
Temps gonna be dropping below -15C (5F) again this week...nights might be arround -20 (-5F) again...
Fuck this winter shit.
-
I'm just glad that winter stuff isn't here this week. Loads of dead trees and bushes from the severe freeze that we got.
-
We're looking at a wet and windy period from Wednesday night, but temps are still in line with the average for the time of year (10c).
-
Looks like some insanely heavy rain and flooding in Australia. Hopefully not affecting Jack and Scott too badly.
-
Looks like some insanely heavy rain and flooding in Australia. Hopefully not affecting Jack and Scott too badly.
Just read about that too...Australia is a land of extremes for sure..not too long ago extreme drought and massive wild fires and now massive rains.
Meanwhile over here looks like spring might finally be coming....day temps should stay on the + side for the whole week and only few nights that see slightly below freezing temps anymore...about bloody time.
-
Australia is a land of extremes for sure..not too long ago extreme drought and massive wild fires and now massive rains.
I've never been to Australia, but I've heard everything there is massive. The people are like 12 feet tall, so cars, furniture, buildings, roads, etc. are all twice as massive as anyplace else. I think that's why they can wrestle crocodiles and such.
-
All good where I live. The floods are happening up North in NSW, Sydney and surrounding suburbs so it could be affecting Scott. One in a 60 year event theyre calling it.
We had no major bush fires here this summer which is the first I can remember in a long time.
-
Getting our round of spring rains this week.
-
The warmest March day in the UK since 1968, 24.5C at Kew Gardens... we might have snow over Easter!
-
Wow, that's a swing we normally associate with Texas weather!
-
I was mowing the lawn this afternoon and got attacked by a flurry of snow. It didn't last long, it didn't lay and to be honest I didn't think it would be quite cold enough for snow!
-

You should file a lawsuit against the snow, clearly it had no right to assault you like that!
-
Much if April has been cold nights but warm bright days. A number of areas have broken records for the number of April overnight frosts.
-
We're going to have our rain start tonight, but Saturday should be cool and sunny... and my wife plans to smoke some meats on that day!
-
After a few very nice and warm sunny days (temp was around 16-18C...low 60sF which is rather unusual for this time of the year) things are taking a step to the worse again...as tomorrow temp plummets to around 2-4C and possible snow or atleast sleet!
So yeah...sucks.
-
Yee-ikes! April is a cruel month, some times.
-
Yup and we did get little over an inch of snow today...
Still not entirely melted away...
-
After couple of "warmer" days we're back to winter temps again... +4C (39F) this has been one of the coldest springs in recent history. Where the hell is that global warming when you need it! Probably under covid lock down...
-
Oh no, it's there. It's in the polar oceans, mostly. That's where the water reduces the depth of the ice pack, threatening the Gulf Stream and the warmth it brings to Northern Europe. Similar impacts on the Jet Stream here in North America are what brought the unprecedented cold that we had back in February. The impacts of the warming come out in much more climate instability and variance - another ice age is a remote possibility from a period of warming, if it results in a general spread of thin ice: the albedo from the ice would then kick off a cooling spiral while overall higher levels of atmospheric energy strengthen winter storms. But that's just one possible outcome out of several other scenarios.
-
It has been unseasonably warm some days and crazy rains and cold the others. Weather on the Island is never too extreme in either heat or cold and that was one of the reasons I moved here.
-
Getting several days of rain here in Dallas. Cool temperatures come with the rain, cooler than usual for this time of the year.
-
We are in the middle of a super heat wave. It was 38 C yesterday afternoon and today is supposed to go to 42 C.
I am so so lucky that I have an air conditioner or I would really be suffering. We have broken all the previous records and it is going to get even hotter.
-
Wimbledon has just started so obviously it's overcast with showers in the UK!
-
Weather on the Island is never too extreme in either heat or cold and that was one of the reasons I moved here.
This has been true until the last few days. They say that this is global warming - but the previous record was 35 C and that was in 1925.
-
Wimbledon has just started so obviously it's overcast with showers in the UK!
I wish it was overcast here :zomg:
-

In those temps, is it fair to say you stay at home during the day and if you need to go out (say to the shops) you wait until after dark?

Yeah I have been staying at home for most of this heat wave and yes going out after the sun has gone down.
This weather is extremely unusual for Vancouver Island. Most of the time it will be between 25 and 28 C and they would be considered hot. If it gets up to 42, 43 like they are predicting - that is so unusual for this area.
-
Those are pretty crazy temps...
We've had pretty warm here too around 30C...and couple of nice little thunders too.
25.8C at the moment.
-
I lived for a year in Hawaii and it would infrequently get to 40 C in the middle of summer. So I have been in these temps before but the heat is different here, more oppressive and muggy. As I said though it almost never gets anywhere near how hot it is suppose to go today. 635 in the morning and it is already 23 C.
-
That's like Dallas, Texas in August. It's miserable.
-
It is 39 C and it is unbearable outside. It is like being in a oven, never felt such intense humid heat.
-
We got to 38C last summer, so I sympathise. Stay cool!
This and other 'out of the ordinary' weather occurances are all indicative of global warming. If it's man made or part of the Earths natural cycles is open for debate, but you can't get away from the fact that the world is warmer and as such is causing some strange weather phenomena. Just be glad we don't live on Venus! :D
-
Thel is in Hell. Literally, I pity anyone living in conditions like that, having endured them myself. Anything over 35C plus humidity is dreary, and drawing close to 40 is violent.
Any one event is not climate change - it's a string of events coupled with gradual, but distinct, elevations/depressesion in average temperatures over a long period of time that's the climate change. Which changes give rise to events such as these.
-
It's 29.8C here now...and that's pretty darn warm...so I do feel for you Thel...that must be insane. Thank god for AC! Stay in, stay cool.
-
Only 44% of Seattle-area residences have AC, but it's been included in all newer construction. Still, for the 56% that don't have central heating and cooling, my heart goes out. There's very real risk of heat-related injury and death in conditions like that.
-
Thanks guys for the concern. It supposed to start cooling off later today, but they are still predicting mid 30s C in the early afternoon.
It is 745 and the temp is 18 C so a bit cooler already compared to yesterday.
-
In heat waves here, we have overnight lows in the low-mid 80s when we have highs over 110, due to the humidity. Having cooler waters nearby can help a great deal with dropping those overnight lows and giving the AC units all a breather so they don't have to run hard all day and all night.
-
That heatwave in the NW is harsh, glad to hear Thel is hanging in there!
The weather in my small town has been ridiculous the past few weeks. First we had a storm that knocked out our power for two days and blew half my fence away. We were lucky, other folks had trees through there roofs/sides of houses/cars blown away...120mph straight line winds. The following day my wife had to be rushed to the hospital, and spent five days there.
So it was me, the cat, and our dogs. Had to throw out all of our refrigerated food. Wife got better, cat died, then we had 10 inches of rain in about five hours. Flooded the whole town. We never get water in our basement...this time we had about an inch. Got that cleaned up, but still have soggy boxes and stuff to throw out. Ordered a dumpster but none to be had...because everyone else got the same thing. Again, we were lucky, a lot of folks had two-five feet of water in their houses. And it's been nothing but hot and humid.
About a week prior to all of this nonsense, I got a shot in my knee for a torn meniscus. It did exactly zero for it. So I've been hobbling around like a geezer.
Relatedly, there was an F4 tornado in the southern Moravia area of the Czech Republic the other day. Got an email from my Czech teacher telling me about it. She thought the news was a joke at first, she had never heard of a tornado there before. Wiped out three villages. They don't have a warning system in place, because it is so rare. I looked into it and they have had about 290 tornadoes since 1190 AD when they started keeping track. That's rare!
Despite my seeming bitchfest in this message, we're doing fine. Still raining, should be drying out some in a couple of days. Music helps. Loud, pissed off music. :)
-
Jesus Vyn, sounds like you’ve really been though the wringer of late. I hope your wife is ok.
And hopefully that knee of yours can heal on its own without the need for an operation.
-
Worst thing about joints like that is how long they take to heal. I'm still nursing the elbow sprain I got in February.
-
https://www.independent.co.uk/climate-change/heatwave-wildfire-lytton-hottest-town-canada-b1877088.html
The town that set all the temperature records tragically burned down. Heatwave now at a once-in-a-millennium level.
-
Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands have had the sort of rain you only hear about in the Bible. Many deaths and much property damage, more rain on the way. :(
We had heavy rain on Monday -- not that bad mind you -- but I think it is the same weather system.
-
Some real terrifying stories coming out of the Rhine Valley regions - one from Netherlands where a dike was breached and people in the area were told to close all doors and windows and retreat to the highest floor: the flood was on its way, no time to evacuate.
-
We haven't had proper rains in weeks!
Temps just around 30C (85F) every goddamn day...been boiling my balls off.
-
Looks like Sicilly have recorded Europe's highest ever temperature 48.8C. There's a heatwave all along the south of Europe
Meanwhile in the UK it's average temps, overcast with the odd bit of drizzle! Weekend looks better.
-
Normal August here in Texas. Temps brushing 100F, not really going over that so far. I'll gladly accept that situation!
-
Hurricane Henri will be moving through my section of the country late tonight and all day Sunday. Initially it was going to be a direct hit on my area, but now its track has moved west a bit and will move right through Connecticut (the state where Bogblast lives). We will still be getting constant winds at 40 to 45 mph with gusts around 60 mph. Plus a couple of inches of rain.
I have taken the necessary precautions: filled my gas can in case I have to use my generator, enough food to last a few days time, and even took down the flag off my flagpole. I'm more concerned with this type of event than a virus. There is no vaccine for major storms. You can only prepare for it, and then wait and see. :squint:
-

Quite true indeed.
Hope you'll be alright buddy! Stay safe!
-
I hope it passes quickly, best way to minimize the damage and flooding. I saw the story about Henri today and thought of you and Bog, hope you both come out of this all right.
-
Good luck Typhon. It sounds like you'll miss the worst of it, but it could still be a nervous few hours.
-
Well the brunt of the storm missed my area thanks to that unusual western shift. Ordinarily the weather patterns travel west to east here. Still, a lot of small branches and twigs to be cleared from my driveway. Connecticut and Rhode Island were hit harder. I hope Bogblast is okay.
-
It's so good that the storm moved quickly, no dumping of rain over many days.
-
Good to hear no major damage.
Would be nice to hear from Bog as well that he's okay too.
-
The hurricane story commanded much attention: there was a flash flood event in Central Tennessee that killed 22 people so far. Happened overnight, 17 inches - about half a meter - of rain.
-

I saw that too. Crazy!
-
It's been raining pretty much every day here for the past week or so... More than 130mm in total...which is about 2 times the average rainfall of august.
After a long and dry summer it does a lot of good...but honestly the constant raining begins to bother me already...eventhough I like rain...but enough's enough already!

Yes. I want the rain to be spread out, not hitting us like we bought it all in a Black Friday sale!
-
Tropical storm headed for the south coast of Texas. While I have family and friends down that way, I'm not in danger - Dallas typically gets the leftover showers from tropical storms, if anything. Should be a major rain event, hopefully normal flood/flash flood concerns. If it moves quickly, it'll be a good thing.
-
Storm slowed down, not happy about that. I don't like flooding rains, they're not good for man nor beast, neither most plants.
-
Yeah heavy rains can be a drag...
-
Yeah heavy rains can be a drag...
Indeed. Up here, it's calm weather, last days of summer in Texas. Come first/second week of October, we'll be having very pleasant daily highs - around 75F - and plenty of days with a proper cool, dry briskness to them. I love Octobers in Texas.
-
Things got chilly here after two days of rain in the weekend.
Temp is now 52F....and that'll be the day temps from now on this week...nights might go under 40F...
Not so lovely..especially with that insanely cold northern breeze!
-
Meanwhile, in the NE USA, it's getting to be peak fall color season.
-
It just started raining yesterday and the temperature has gone down to between 8 and 12 Celsius. Fall is here!
Personally I love the Fall and Winter especially here on the Island, never gets dangerously cold and little to no snow.
Lots of Rain though that I also like, to a point.
-
We will have a sharp drop in temperatures to fall conditions on Tuesday here. That means we can open the windows and enjoy letting some of the outside in. :)
-
Cold front coming in today - I can tell because I'm sleepy and my knees are making noise. Once it passes, I'll be back in a sprightly step.
-
Cold front coming in today - I can tell because I'm sleepy and my knees are making noise.
That's the vaccine you took doing that. Relax, it's a joke.
-
I still feel like you took a *jab* at me. :D
-
It has finally started to rain, as last week we got some throughout the Island. We desperately needed it.
Temps are around 10 C the last few days with midday highs of 17 to 18 C. The leaves are turning and the air is getting that chill.
-
^^^
Off topic, when you say "the island", does that mean you live on Vancouver Island rather than the city of Vancouver? Looking at a map I see Seattle isn't that far away over the border... do you ever visit?
-
I'll let Thel handle his local geography - but there's loads of islands up that way, wouldn't be surprised if he was on one. :)
Here in Texas, those 17-18C temps are our morning lows, afternoon highs hitting around 29-32C. It's been dry here, but should have more rain later in the week.
-
I always understood he lived on Vancouver Island, which is a very nice place from what I've seen. :)
-
^^^
Off topic, when you say "the island", does that mean you live on Vancouver Island rather than the city of Vancouver? Looking at a map I see Seattle isn't that far away over the border... do you ever visit?
Yes I live on Vancouver Island, and specifically in the city of Victoria. It is very beautiful here.
I have not been to Seattle but I may go see it someday.
-
Fair enough, for some reason I always thought you were in Vancouver City which I suppose isn't *that* far away! 8)
-
Looks like Victoria is half way between Vancouver city and Seattle.
And, doesn't this make you something of a Pacific Islander, Thel, since you live on a Pacific Island?
-
:wootwoot: I guess technically does make me a Pacific Islander!! I was not born here but came to the Island in my early 20s.
I am from the other side of Canada, New Brunswick to be exact. I lived for a year in Hawaii in my late teens and when I went back to NB I could not handle the harsh winters anymore. The winters here on the Island are very mild and we rarely get snow and it usually stays above -5.
Vancouver Island is very beautiful and is lush with vegetation, as we live in a moderate rain forest.
-
Yes, it's absolutely gorgeous up there. Kind of place where if you drop a bag of seeds in your backyard, you'll have a bumper crop in 90 days, no questions asked. Except for cactus. Only wee tiny cactus seems to be able to manage up that way.
I visited Seattle in summer 2002 and took a day trip through the San Juan Islands, gorgeous sunny day with cool temperatures. I was in Vancouver for business a few years ago: same song, slightly further north. :) Truly awesome seafood out that way.
-
I LOVE the Halibut and Fries that are so delicious.
-
Rain starts today, looks set to run for the rest of the week and into the next.
-
Rains start here next week...nothing too big though but steady rain for most of the week it seems...typical autumn weather.
-
We have that rain now (and it's going to quite breezy later)! Heading your way?
-
We have that rain now (and it's going to quite breezy later)! Heading your way?
I think it is yes. It should come from the south west...and with some moderate wind too.
-
Just noticed that Oman and maybe the UAE are about to get a tropical storm.
-
Well, torrential rain now, but only in short bursts. Glad I didn't have to go out this afternoon!
-
Great, cool morning today. Went for a walk and loved the morning. All the acorns on the ground tell me that the leaves are coming next, fall is here in North Texas!
-
Rain started here now...not the big one yet, that should arrive in the night so I'll be getting very very wet...but that's okay.
-

Just remember there's no such thing as bad weather... only a bad choice of clothing!

Erm, you should stop by here when we're having a tornado, hurricane, and/or ice storm. :smug:

If you're not wearing a substantial concrete shelter you're not properly dressed! ;) I think Billy Connolly's quote was not supposed to be taken too seriously, or may have been UK specific!
-
OK, I'll accept concrete shelter as proper outerwear.

Just remember there's no such thing as bad weather... only a bad choice of clothing!
Bad choice of clothing is the story of my life!
-
It is starting to get chilly outside especially at night. 6 and 7 degrees celsius over the last few nights.
-
Warming up again, not yet able to have everything open all day long, having to close windows around noon. Later in the month, though, should be nice and cool.
-
It didn't actually end up raining as much as it was supposed to...but it has been drizzling away the whole day...and will keep doing so for the night and most of tomorrow as well.
-
Bad wind and rain storm went through last night and today. The heavy winds did way more tree damage than the hurricane I had a near miss with a few months ago. Will have to spend all of tomorrow clearing debris. :squint:
-
How did your power hold out? I've got a coworker in Maine that is running on his generator right now.

How did your power hold out? I've got a coworker in Maine that is running on his generator right now.
My power stayed on, so I never had to use my generator. One of the 3 neighbors on my lane lost his power though.
-
We had a short run of storms yesterday, but today is clear and fair, dry and cool. Lows around 50F and highs just over 70F.
https://www.weather.gov/forecastmaps
SE USA getting the worst weather today.
-
It's raining a bit here again...but the temp is nice 10.6C (50F) so I'm liking it. Beats below freezing temps for sure!
-
The first named storm of the season (Arwen) has hit Scotland and the North of England and has got itself the first Red weather warning for a couple of years. Further south we'll see some strong winds tomorrow, and maybe some snow on the higher ground but it won't be so bad.
Probably heading for Charger!
-
We have a bit of snow (!!! in November! Fuck that shit!!) coming on Monday evening so it might be the remnants of that...no real storm though...so I guess it dies out before getting here this time...which is nice...don't need a goddamn snow blizzard in november.
-
Getting rain here in Texas, so we're bracing for that. :smug:
-
Storm Barra due to hit the UK today and tomorrow, high winds, heavy rain and later low temperatures.
-
Insane cold continues here...
-16C (3F) as I'm writing this at 3:48pm... Not cool...last night the temp dropped to -23C (-9F)...that's crazy low for the beginning of December.
Thankfully it looks like some warming up is gonna happen next weekend...it fuckin' better as these kinds of temps aren't for man nor beast.
-
It got down to 3 here, as well. 3C, that is... we may hit a record *high* on Friday, when temps jump up into the 80s F.
-
Thankfully the temp came up a bit... we're at -1.5C (30F) now...which is quite an upgrade...but ofcourse now came the wind...so with the wind chill factor...it actually ain't that much warmer...so I'm still fucked. And to add insult to the injury it's supposed to snow tonight/tomorrow as well....arse.
-
Very warm today, then the temperature plummets overnight as the Canadian front rolls in.
-
Well luckily it didn't snow a whole lot...under an inch. And next week it promises water...which is more than nice!
-
1 degree above freezing here in Texas.
WINTER IS HERE!!!
Should be done by next weekend, hopefully. :smug:
-
Jiihaa! RAIN!!! WATER! Me a happier camper now....espcially since I don't have to be camping.
-
We're getting rain and a cool-down today in North Texas.
-
Overcast here, little rain though, it's been warmer than normal for the time of year.
-
Forecast is 75 F tomorrow with 50-60 mph winds. Then 40 F Thursday.
-
Oof on the winds, that's tropical storm force, there.
-
Mild and rainy this week. They say some parts of the UK could hit 17C later this week. Not very December-ish!
-
It has been minus 5 to 8 Celsius and is that ever cold for my part of Canada!
-
On vacation in Bentonville, Arkansas. It's cooler and wetter here than back in Dallas, had to buy a jacket coz I didn't pack one!
-
Inch of snow today...yuck.... but the good thing is the temp got up a bit and it's only -2C (28F) which is a nice change.
-
Mild rain here, big storms further south. Hoping it all clears out for my wife and I to do the Crystal Bridges forest lights walk later tonight.
-
Temp is around 0C now BUT now came the wind so with the wind chill factor it's still around -10C out there...and with some freezing rain too....winter = suckage
-
Meanwhile it was 34c in Melbourne today, 39c tomorrow and 37c for New Years Day. Good thing I ain’t working ;)
-
North Texas gets all its precipitation just before the temperature drops below freezing on Saturday afternoon/night. Good that we will have it be dry when we're below freezing.
-
Finland-like temperatures today and overnight. :squint: High of 16oF (-8oC) and low of 4oF (-15oC).
Better for tomorrow, will be in upper 30's.
-
^ It's quite brutal in the US NE this week, for sure! Stay warm!
-
I can beat those Typhon! Two nights ago we had -6F (-21C)....but now thankfully things warmed up a bit and it's 34F (+1C) now...tomorrow they'll say it's as high as +5C...and then it'll drop below freezing again...leaving everything icy and slippy...yikes.
-
No ice here, but we have another temperature roller coaster this week. Freezing at the start, up to the 70s by Friday, then back to lows around freezing on Saturday.
-
We have had storm after storm come through our Island. Snow, freezing rain and plenty of rain. Floods are happening all over the mainland of British Columbia and on the northern part of Vancouver Island. For about a week and a half we had consistent below freezing temperatures especially at night. It has warmed back up to 8 to 10 Celsius during the day, thank god.
-
Almost +6C (lower 40sF) today...which was very very nice...part from the fact that the whole yard became an ice rink.
-
Bright but chilly today. It got to -6C last night with freezing fog, but that was a little inland, while here on the coast we probably stayed around 0 or +1.
-
A winter storm should be rolling in tonight and tomorrow morning...not a lot of snow...just an inch or so but with rather heavy wind...so it'll be a blizzard of sorts for sure...and I HATE that shit.
-
Cold but dry here in Texas.
-
Well the storm didn't really hit here...passed us from the west...but in the island of Ahvenanmaa they did record a rather high gust of 39.8m/s (89mph) which is extremely unusual in Finland. But that was rather far up the ocean...
Tomorrow should be nice and warm again with temps in high 30s...it should also rain some...hopefully enough to melt some of that slippery ice out there...shit I couldn't get out of the garage yesterday!
-
Nice warm day today, before the Blue Norther arrives tomorrow to give us some proper Texas winter weather.
-
Motherfudger!
Forecast shows a proper snow blizzard heading this way for tomorrow. It is yet bit unclear whether it'll be watery sleet or pure snow...luckily it seems to be leaning towards sleet now...but it still might be somewhere between 4-6 inches of that white stuff....and with a pretty decent wind...
The good thing is it won't drift the snow too much as it's wet but it'll get on everything and trees might be in trouble...
Regardless super sucky weather ahead....not to mention I have to work saturday/sunday night...that'll be fun.... NOT.
-
NYC is supposed to get either no snow or 2 feet of snow, all depending on an offshore system. Typhon's part of the USA will get snow, regardless, but how this big system tracks determines how much gets dumped and where.
-
Blizzard hitting tomorrow. Expecting a foot or more, says the current forecast. Got my big snow blower ready to go.
-
^ Hoping all the hype about this being a "historic" storm is just that, hype.
-
We had nearly 10 consecutive days of mid 30 temperatures in Melbourne, which isn’t too abnormal for Summer but what was abnormal was that every one of those days was high humidity as well. We do get humid days here and there but to have so many in a row was highly unusual. To top it off we had a massive rain storm yesterday that caused mass flooding in certain areas. Was pitch black at 2 o’clock in the afternoon.
-
^^^
Hot + humidity is horrid! But on the bonus side you do get some cooling rains then too though.
Blizzard hitting tomorrow. Expecting a foot or more, says the current forecast. Got my big snow blower ready to go.
Yikes! Looks like we're both in for a snowy ride then! You bit more than me though.
So far the temp is above freezing so what's coming down now is more rain than snow...let's hope it stays that way for as long as possible!
-
Hot + Humid = typical Dallas summer. I'm thankful for winter, because I don't get that combo for a few months!
-
Been blowing and raining for about 4 hours now....luckily most of it has been water and sleet so far...less than half an inch of snow has gathered so far...But the wind is gusting pretty well....
-
Hope none of that water/sleet accumulates as ice, that's the worst.
-
Got about 14 inches of snow. Other parts of the state got as high as 26 inches. Got to start digging out today.
-
Wow...14 inches is a lot! You got some plowing to do!
We only got around 5 to 6 inches (some of it very wet) took me over an hour to plow my yard...heavy snow for my little tractor...
-
Keep your backs safe, good sirs!
Dallas gets an ice storm on Wednesday night and then stays below freezing until Saturday afternoon, that's our forecast.
-
We're having a couple of named storms one after another, but they have/will mainly affect the North of England and Scotland. High winds but not too cold.
-
Storm looks like it may dump more ice and snow than expected a few days ago. Ugh. Not predicted to be as bad as last year's, but an ice storm is still an ice storm.
-
I know how an inch of snow will create apocalyptic chaos over there so stay safe in these trying times!
-
Indeed it will. And a millimeter of ice may as well be a meter of the stuff, it's just as slippery, no matter how thin the layer. That's how I had a bad fall last year that banged up my elbow. Going to the stores today to stock up and get some magnesium chloride for the front walk.
-
Got about 14 inches of snow. Other parts of the state got as high as 26 inches. Got to start digging out today.
Mission Accomplished! :partay:
(https://i.postimg.cc/sxWkmj5z/Blizz.jpg) (https://postimages.org/)
-
Awesome! Job well done and reward well deserved!
-
Forecast for Dallas: .25-.5 inches of ice... so that's about .5-1.5cm of ice. Then 1-3 inches of snow, or 2-8cm of snow on top of that.
It's the ice that can break power lines here. While my part of the grid didn't go down last year, there's always a risk of a tree limb taking out a power line.
-
We got the ice, as expected, low snow numbers. Streets on their second day of being iced-over. Power lines holding up for the most part, that's good for everyone here.
Found out yesterday that calcium chloride is a great product for ice treatment. :)
-
^^^
Is it a pill, injection or cream for that sort of treatment?! ;)
-
Another bloody blizzard here now.
Complete white out conditions now....It's not snowing a whole lot but the wind is strong and it's moving the old snow around quite a bit... The snowing is going to get worse by evening...but luckily it should also turn to sleet...
-
Oof! February is such a tough month for the Northern Hemisphere at temperate latitudes and higher.
-
About 5 inches of wet snow came out of that....
I'm starting to be so done with this winter shit already!
-
Cleared the ice off my driveway today since it is in shade and does not want to melt.
-
Storm Dudley on its way tonight and tomorrow. Strong winds and rain but the worst of it will be the north of England and Scotland.
Storm Eunice is arriving right after on Friday... and it could be a biggie... and we could see the worst of it!
-
Some sleet again today....been nice and warm for the past few days...but not warm enough to melt the snow and ice though....
Looks like it's gonna freeze up good again for the weekend... Can't this fuckin' winter end already!?!!?
-
I think the UK would be glad of a little snow and ice, Storm Eunace is going to be a biggie. The MET Office have already issued a RED weather warning (AM Friday) for the south west of England and South Wales... with an AMBER warning for the rest of England and Wales. 100mph winds are expected in exposed areas and even inland areas are looking at 60-80mph winds.
-
100mph winds are serious business! So are 60-80! Hurricane-force winds, those!
Down here in Texas, it's just going to be 2 weeks of cold and cloudy, with rain/sleet coming in next week.
-
High winds here, but a couple of days of unusual warmth, in the 50's.
All the snow melted! 8)
-
The Needles (off the The Isle of Wight) have recorded gusts up to 122mph this morning. But The Needles are very exposed and often get the strongest gusts. But a lot of other places have reported gusts in the 75-87mph range. I poped round the shops before it got too bad here, I wouldn't want to go outside at the moment.
What I find fascinating is that the MET Office predicted this storm back at the beginning of the week... it only actually developed on Thursday morning! The forecasts have come a long way in 35 years (back in 1987 we had a REALLY big storm which came as a complete surprise to the forecasters!!).
-
Reading headlines about damage and loss of life in Ireland and Poland from this storm. Hoping the best for everyone in Europe.
-
Yeah proper storm over there! Glad you're okay KDC!
122mph is 54m/s! That's insane for non hurricane winds!
Computers have come a long way indeed. The downside of that ofcourse is that the meteorologists don't need to know as much about anything anymore...all they need to do is put the data on the screen for people to see...
Seems that computer models can predict bigger storms better and better....temps and showers and such are still pretty hard.
-
It was 70 F yesterday. Today it is going to top out at 28 F. lol
-
Auch...those kinds of temp changes are horrid.
We got (surprise surprise) another 5 inches or so snow yesterday...this is getting ridiculous.
-
I get to travel to DC today, I head out of DFW just as the really cold stuff hits and come back as it warms up and DC gets the same system.
-
A calm day today after a few days of strong winds and latterly rain.
-
Same here.
Sun is shining, temp's nice +2C and everything. Almost spring like...but that won't last...tonight it's gonna go below -10C again... :(
-
It has been unseasonably cold over the last week or so but today it is 8 Celsius. Overcast but not raining, it would seem that Spring is on it's way.
-
Got home all right yesterday in spite of weather playing havoc with flight schedules. Overcast and in the 30s-40s here in Dallas.
-
SE Queensland is getting right soaked. The gardener I like to follow from over there had this mini-documentary about how wet his property is.
-
Some nice almost spring like days this week...but now it's gonna change again...Temp's falling below freezing again with night as low as -15C (5F)...so goodbye springy time..
-
Definitely warming up in Texas, I had to use the fan yesterday.
-
SE Queensland is getting right soaked. The gardener I like to follow from over there had this mini-documentary about how wet his property is.
The rain has been insane in northern NSW and Queensland this past week. They had a years worth of rain in two days and there’s extensive flooding throughout those areas. Over half a million people have been evacuated from their homes and 8 people have died. Hard to comprehend when you see service stations with the water level past the roof line with just the top of the BP sign poking through the water level.
-
It is 1 degree Celsius, very cold for this time of year here on the Island.
-
Nice today, but a Blue Norther comes in tonight with plenty of rain, should be done with the rain before the freeze hits.
-
22 degrees F, light snow for the past seven hours, probably six more hours of it. Will end up with about 8 inches of snow.
Last week it was 80 degrees F.
-

Last week it was 80 degrees F.
It's like the USA has been getting Powerball weather these last few weeks... like the highs are coming out of a ball machine sending them up at random.
-
Will be in Laredo, TX in about a month on business. Should be warmer there :)
-
In a month? Yes. Should be downright purty around that time.
-
Last week we had bright sunny weather which hit 20°C in places... this week there could be snow! but not as far south as us, but it will be much colder for a few days.
-
Spring days here, so we'll have tornadoes one day and birds chirping in the sweet sunshine the next.
-
Tornadoes and birds! What's not to love?!
Here the crazy cold spree continues. Days are just above freezing and nights are way below....ridiculous for April weather this...
-
Last week in Virginia, it was snowing at the start and spring-like at the end.
-
Wicked wind and rain storm to kick off Spring. It is really howling out there!! Down to 5 Celsius.
-
Tornados nearby last night, but all we got was thunderstorms in my neighborhood, doing all right. Much cooler starting tomorrow.
-
Had some rains recently, very nice how they washed the pollen out of the air.
-
103 F in Laredo yesterday, down to 80 F last night. No humidity, so was pretty nice.

It's a *dry heat.*

-
Been very nice spring weather for the past few days...Sunny days and temps around 15C (60F) and even the nights have stayed above freezing...this ofcourse won't last and next week we'll see a severe drop in temps again...
-
Uff da!
We're solidly into Spring here in Texas, and it's really fierce. A thin layer of yellow pollen covers EVERYTHING here.
-
Ragweed pollen continues to be very high, and I continue to be very masked.
-
Still pretty cold...night's have been below freezing...very very unsual for beginning of May....Wind blows from the dead north so polar air and it's pretty darn cold still up there too!
-
Yeah, nights have been sub-zero here too (-3 inland 0 on the coast), but the days have been pretty warm I wouldn't be surprised if it is 18-20C this afternoon.
-
Warming up here in Texas and pollen is much less severe today, yay!
-
Pollen season hasn't even started here yet...so I got that to look forward too still...yay!
-
True Spring weather is back in North Texas for a week! Temperature this morning was only 62F / 16.6C, so I went to my office room and opened up the outside door to let the warm air out and the cool air in. I will get a few more of these days this week before temps go back to the 90s/30s.
In other news, I've decided to practice my Celsius. :smug:
-
Over 80oF today.
Now that's what I'm talking about! :partay:
-
Not even getting that warm here in Dallas, it's another day of cool, cloudy mornings.
-
Rather nice weather here for a change...Temps been around 20C (68F) and nice sunny weather...which ofcourse will change on Wednesday when it'll start to rain...and it should rain 4 days straight...and temp will go down to around 10C (50F)...yeah...summer is coming...and global warming...
-
So I'm having *Finnish* weather this week?
-
Haha! Looks like it!
Well the forecasts took a 180. No rain after all but the temp still drops a bit.
-
Ah, well, we have your rain here, you can come claim it when you're ready.
-
Last warmer day today...then temp's gonna drop a few degrees...
So I think I'll fire up the grill!
-
It's overcast here, not particularly cold, but not warm either. No rain at the moment or expected.
-
Texas is easing back into that summer thing. Temps in the low 30s the rest of this week and into the next.
-
An unusually cold spring with stormy and windy nights. Hopefully, it will warm up soon.
-
Cold weather continues here now as well...some rain too...
-
Summer is here in Texas and will likely be here until the usual cut-off time, mid-October. :D 4-5 months of hot and humid, with everyone figuring out how to maximize cooling power without overloading the power grid or the electric bill.
The other seasons we have are spring and fall. When we get a winter, it's usually something that spills over from irresponsible Canadians and we only have it for a week or two before getting back to spring or fall.
-
It's been crazy windy for the past week...temps been nice around 20C (70F) but the wind has just been blowing away constantly....very annoying.
-
It will be at or near 40C for the highs every day for the rest of the week. I'd say until mid-September, but there may be a day or two only at 37C. :smug:
-
So parts of the UK will hit 34C today but a steady breeze will temper that somewhat. France and Spain have both hit 40+C in recent days which are the earliest those countries have ever reached those figures. The Uk can expect heavy ran in many parts over the weekend!
-
Rain coming here as well tomorrow...temps been very nice 20C (70F) but ofcourse tomorrow with the rain temps gonna fall down a bit, but nothing too dramatic.
No real heat wave coming here and I'm more than fine with that...don't need it. These 20C temps are my cup of tea.
-
Very unusually and unseasonably cold with some windy nights. This is the coldest spring that I have experienced since moving to Vancouver Island, 22 years ago.
-
About to head out west, where it will likely be cooler than what I'm getting in Dallas of late.
-
Well not it got warm then...
27.7C (82F) now and tomorrow and next week we might be touching 30 (86F)...too hot...
-
31.7C (90F) right now.... Not fun... luckily there's a bit of a breeze...
-
It's been a little hit or miss recently, some rain, some sunshine, a bit of a breeze, not too warm really (low 20s at best). It's not affecting Wimbledon too much... god I hate tennis! ;)
-
^^^^^^
The players should have boycotted the tournament anyway. All the players from Russia and Belarus were banned from participating. Many other players complained about that, but they didn't have the guts to do anything about it.
-
Yeah that was ridiculous banning the Russian and Belarusian players. The only player that should be banned is that Kyrgios flog.
-
^^^^^^
The players should have boycotted the tournament anyway. All the players from Russia and Belarus were banned from participating. Many other players complained about that, but they didn't have the guts to do anything about it.
Well Russians are banned from all international sports...not just tennis.
And considering the brainwashed fools most of them are (based on their sentiments on the war) it's for the best anyways.
-
Most tennis has still allowed Ruskies and Belaruskies players to continue as long as they have denounced the war. Wimbledon is one of the few tournaments which did their own thing. I believe a couple of players have pulled out of Wimbledon, although I think it's because of the lack of ranking points and not because of support for the banned players.
I don't know if other sports have the policy of allowing individuals players to carry on, I know F1 has banned the Russian driver.

Their sentiments may be based on concerns for the safety of their families if they were to actually condemn the war.
-
^ True, it's generally best for one's overall health as well as one's loved relatives' health in Russia to toe the line.
Back to weather, it's the time of year in Texas when the coldest water comes out when you turn on the hot water.
-
Woohoo! We had some thunder today! And some rain even! A whole half an inch of it! But better than nothing and I got to spot my first lightnings of the year...
-
Hot
Humid
TEXAS
-
Well weather's doing a bit of a 180 again.... temps going down to below 20C (70F) and nights dropping to around 10C (50F) which is pretty cold for the season...
But hey that's the finnish summer...it's mostly one of low snowfall...
-
I'm dreaming of when it gets back down to 20C here. :D
High today will be 39C.
-
Just for the record... Winter Is Coming!
-
Just for the record... Winter Is Coming!
For the record... define winter? :D
-
Temps expected to hit 35C+ at the weekend and it is thought that the record for the UK (38.7C in July 2019) could be beaten.
-
And that is so rough, given the lack of AC in UK.
Here in Texas, we're on a streak of 7 days so far with highs over 100F, and at least the next 8 days forecasted to be above 100F for the high. All these highs are flirting with 40C. We've had 15 days so far over 100 this year, so it's mid-July and already set to make a run for the record books. If it does that, I expect some severe drought conditions to emerge. I don't like it when tree leaves turn straw-colored...
-
A lack od AC has never been an issue in the past as a good hot summer rarely spent more than the odd day in the 30s. I think with global warming we can "enjoy" new record highs every other year! I think AC in new builds will become more common, and those with a bit of spare cash might be looking for ways to add it to existing buildings.
-
Well summer turned to autumn here now...rainy weather for the past few days and few days to come and temp's around 17C (60F)...
-
Well, we had rain today, so we break the streak of 100F days, thank goodness.
I'm also cooling the house way down at night - it's chilly in the morning, but the house does not get that hot during the day and the AC barely runs. Got the idea from friends in Arizona.
-
There is now a Red Weather Warning for parts of England for Monday and Tuesday, the rest of England and Wales have an Amber Weather Warning. There have been Red Weather Warnings before but for bad weather not Hot weather. They think temperatures will hit 39C on Monday and 40C on Tuesday. It will not drop below about 25C overnight.
I'm not in the Red Warning area but will be in the amber so I guess mid-30s are likely!.
-
Wow...that's pretty warm...not very common temps in the UK...
We are still firmly in fall temps here...14C (57F) here now...and there is no real warming to be seen in the near future either...
-
Should be another sub-100F day in DFW today, very happy for that. Houston area, though, had some rolling blackouts yesterday, not at all good for them.
-
100 F today, feels like 110. Sunny and hot!
-
Just scraped 100 yesterday here in Dallas, but we have some tomatoes that weathered the heat that we want to bring indoors to ripen so the critters don't get into them.
-
This morning dawned with 78 F and 96% humidity. It's hazy and promises to be a sweltering day.
-
I believe the high for today was 15C (under 60F) on and off rain...the temp is about 5-8 degrees below average now...
-
I'm melting!!
(and it's only 31C at the moment)
-
Got up to 41C here in Dallas - around 105-106F. My back porch thermometer read 111F, which would be 44C, or FRIGGIN HOT for comparison.
-
@ KDC - relax and have a cool drink. 8)
For the next couple of days the high here will be just above 90oF (33oC). Not Texas temps, but higher humidity for sure. Not that I'm complaining. :)
-
We'll have the Texas temps here in Texas. :D
I heard that an airport in the UK got shut down because the tarmac surface at the end of the runway had melted and there's concern about train lines buckling in the heat, since the materials aren't spec'd for temps like they're having.
-
Bit warmer here today as well...clocking at 20C (68F) but very windy again...should be warm few days then on the weekend the rains and cold return again.
-
29 monitoring stations around the country have broken the old UK high temperature record today (it was 38.7C). While the new high is still to be verified, it would appear that the new high is 40.3C in Lincolnshire.
-
We topped out at 100 F even today. That is supposed to hold for the next few then we're supposed to enjoy 105 F. With 85% humidity.
The heatwave you've been dealing with, KDC, has been a topic of conversation at work the past couple of days. We have a couple of agents in the UK specifically, and they've been commenting with amazement at it as well. I was told that normally the highs are 70-80 F?
-
^^^
As a high there are always places in the UK which will get to 90F / 33C during a summer season.
But 80F / 27C is very much as high as we would go for most areas. I'm a person who doesn't like it much above that total!
-
80F for a high is what we call a pleasantly cool spring or fall day here in Texas. :smug:
-
Yeah, but you're not human! ;)
-
Yeah, but you're not human! ;)
:opinion:
-
Summer came back for few days...today's high was around 27C (80F) and should be warmer tomorrow...the last hurrah of summer?
-
Summer ending so soon? Oh, wait, you're not in Texas, that's right... ours will go on as scheduled and then some. I'm wondering how late our last 100-degree day will be this year...
-
Looks like I'll have a much higher electric bill for July. Usually I only use the AC a little bit at night in order to sleep. But these days I have had to use it for some daytime hours in other parts of the house. (Not that I'm complaining. :) )
-
Just read an article on the heat wave in Northern Greenland, which is normally below freezing year-round. It's right now at 16C / 60F. That is bad news for the folks down in the Maldives and other inhabited areas close to sea level. That list includes New York City, Miami, Shanghai, and almost all of Bangladesh...
-
Lots of rain here again yesterday and today...but the temp hasn't gone down as much though which is nice. Warm rainy days I enjoy the most.
-
Going to Virginia next week, which is forecast to have warm and rainy for the whole week.
-
Very dry summer here in Southeastern Mass. Hardly a drop of rain for the last month. Fortunately I don't have a lawn to maintain.
-
The summer continues to be hot and dry. Not stupid hot like it was a couple of weeks ago... mid-high 20s for much of last week, with high 20s-low 30s next week. No forecast for any rain in the near future and some parts are introducing a ban on certain uses of water (washing cars, using hosepipes, swimming pools etc).
-
Thunderstorms in DC pushed my flight departure by 3.5 hours, from 7PM to 10:30PM.
Oof.
-
Still no rain here. I have been watering some flowering plants by hand so they don't die off.
-
It's like all the rain in the USA is going across the middle of the country, nowhere else.
-
Bit rainy and windy for the past few days...now it's sunny again with temp just around the 70F mark....pretty normal for this time of year...
-
Might get rain in Dallas this week and possibly a break in the 100-degree temps... highs at 99/98/97 through to the end of the week.
-
Was 98 F here yesterday, heat index was 110 F.
Today it got up to 80 F. No heat index. And it rained off and on throughout the day.
Going back up tomorrow.
-

I'm heading from DFW in the 96-105 range and slim-to-none rain chances to DC in the 85-95 range and buckets of the stuff on tap. :D

I remember about 30 years ago a friend of mine got a business trip to Florida around Feb/Mar. Whilst there his boss called and said it would be good to call in at another customers office in Milwaukee... he said NO! he had packed for Florida, he would freeze in Milwaukee at that time of year!
-

LOTS of difference between Wisconsin and Florida!
-
Finally some rain last night. :) Not a lot, but a decent soaking.
-
Summer just came back for one last hurrah over here...
Really sunny days ahead with temps above 75F might even touch 80 on the weekend...
-
Amber weather warning for large parts of the UK for the next few days, another heatwave has hit the UK, not as hot as a couple of weeks ago but we're back into the 30s and some places might get to 36-37C come the weekend.
Still no rain for much of the south in weeks, water restrictions have come in for some areas.
-
Gorgeous dry day here in Northern VA, had a nice stroll after work to a Japanese restaurant and a just-as-nice stroll back to the hotel. Rained to beat the band here last night and also back home in Dallas.
-
So much better today. The last day of the heatwave was yesterday and I wouldn't be surprised if it was 10C cooler for the most part today, probably 23-24C when the sun came out - which it didn't do that much. There might be thunder soon... yay!!
-
It's going to be 20 F cooler today than yesterday, and they say that we'll have Charger sunshine. Which I believe because we've had nothing but wind and rain and thunder all night!
-
Our turn with the cold front arrives tomorrow, after our last 100F+ day for a while. Hopefully, for the year.
-
Well no my kind of weather here...yet.
Been quite warm indeed...temp right now is 31.5C (90F) which is very warm for this time of the year...
Tomorrow is predicted to have some cooling thunders and rain, but honestly I'll believe it when I see it....thunders have (once again) passed this area almost completely! >:(
-
Rain is on its way as I type! Should hit Dallas in about 2 hours.
-
Been quite warm still...and today the humidity has been off the charts as well making it even more uncomfortable...the temp is "only" around 80F but it feels like 95!
It has been a strange summer...first it was abnormally warm then it got abnormally cold and now it's abnormally warm again...
Even the nights have been above 20C (68F) which is the limit for a tropical night here...and having those in late August is extremely rare.
-
Drizzly, yet mild this morning, the sun has come out now and it's even a little "warm".
-
Temperatures below 100F for the next 2 weeks and a chance of rain every day... fall is here in Texas!
-
Overcast and drizzly again, the sun is coming out now so the temps might hit 22-23C, it has been a little humid also.
-
Bit drizzly here too...the temp is about the same as well...
-
Rain was so bad yesterday, I had 3 flights cancel out from under me, so I stay home this week. Weather is cloudy and cool for Texas August, highs in the low 80s F.
-
Thunder & lightning from early morning with lots of heavy rain. Cleared up late morning and had nice warm sunshine this afternoon/.
-
Summer ended with a bang here... We had some thunderstorms the other night and some rain and on Sunday we still had +25C (77F) and now it's down to 15C (60F) and it'll only get colder from now on with night temps falling down to around 5C (40F)...Fall has arrived just in time for September.
I just hope the below freezing nights aren't quite around the corner yet as my pumpkins still need to grow and my chilis and tomatoes are on top of their game now as well...
Plum trees are bursting at the seams with the weight of all them plums too...so frost would wreak havoc around here....
-
My tomatoes got killed off in the drought, otherwise they'd be loving the rains that have started to pick up around here.
-
5C right now....holy moses it's cold!
-
Uff! I don't like those single digits!
-
Thunder, Lightning and Heavy Rain last night... the same again tonight!
-
Nice enough weather today, got my lawn mowed finally.
-
It's been rather nice here for the past week...quite warm days around 15C (60F) but nights have been cold...below freezing in fact which did kill off my cucumbers even in the greenhouse...but there wasn't much left in them in terms of harvest anyways...But surprisingly my pumpkins and plums did survive...which is nice...
Nights should get bit warmer again with temps around 5C (40F) for the next week...
-
Summer is holding here on Vancouver Island, with it being 17 C this morning. And it is only 630 AM.
-
False Fall ended yesterday, temps in the 90s again in Dallas, but I spend the first half of the week in Toronto. Packing long-sleeved shirts for that business trip.
-
Rainy and windy day today. I don't mind...especially since it's rather warm (15C) too.
-
And some more rain again today...some pretty hefty showers too. I'm digging it!
-
Back in Dallas today, happy my AC is working well.
-
I put my AC away for the winter already! :D
-
I put my AC away for the winter already! :D
I was shocked to read that, then I remembered, oh yes, he's in Finland. It's cold there. :D
-
BIG hurricane Ian is heading into Florida, massive storm surge predicted.
-
Hurricane Ian now turning to South Carolina, hundreds expected in additional death toll across Florida. Hopefully, Ian hits SC, drops its rain, and then dissipates.
-
That was a big one for sure...I have watched some of Reed Timmer's footage from the intercept...need to check out more.
-
Couple of very rainy days here. But it's been nice and warm above 10C (50F) which is great for the season and eventhough it's been quite windy too the wind has been warm as well.
This is the kind of fall weather I truly enjoy!
-
Texas, meanwhile, gets whipsawed. 91-93F for the high today (33C or so) and then tomorrow, we get a massive storm, rain all day, high at 76F (24C) and then after that the highs are only around 66F (19C) for the next few days before climbing back up to around 83F/28C.
-
Quite an extraordinary night last night as a rather powerful storm front surprised Finland and there was quite heavy winds big gusts and heavy rain AND even some thunder which is extremely rare in late October.
The thundering part of the storm passed me on both sides though but I did see one flash of lightning in the distance. But there was quite heavy rain and strong wind gusts.
Luckily I was working the night so I could enjoy all of it. Very cool! This is the kind of autumn weather I absolutely love!
-
Clear, dry, and cool this morning, have my office door open to take in the air. :)
-
Mild, wet and windy. Temps way above where they should be for the time of year, looking at low 20sC and should be that way until early next week.
-
Mild and wet here too...temps at 9C now which is bit above the average...but we did have some much colder than average temps in the late september so it's evening out nicely.
Hopefully it'll stay like this for a long while more.
-
Proper fall in Texas all this week and next. Ahhh! Finally! :D
-
Currently 9 C (but it is also 0529). Will get up to about 16 C. That's been the pattern for a bit, and looks to continue next week. We're solidly into the fall, all the trees have changed and every other day it gets cold enough to hard freeze. Prior to this recent spate of mild temperatures, it was getting down to -5 C, but then up to 25 C during the day. Been real dry.
-
Lots of rain yesterday, still cloudy today.
-
Storm last night (the amber warning came in quite late), lots of wind and rain, kept me awake until stupid o'clock!
Still windy with some showers but a lot less strength.
-
We get our big rain Friday night going into Saturday, should be thunder and lightning for sure.
-
Rain, rain go to Sp- err Texas, never come here again!
If you hadn't guessed it's been several days of heavy rain here!
-
Still raining today, but just a persistent drizzle.
-
We'll get our rains this afternoon and into tomorrow, then it's clear and warm before getting some unseasonal coolness at the end of the week.
-
We've had about a week of steady rains now...but today it doesn't rain and it's still nice and warm (10C) so I'm doing my final raking and other yard cleanings...
-
Saw Montana weather this morning. High of 8, low of 0. Fahrenheit. Ouch.
:sorry:
-
After a week of highs in the upper 70's F, yesterday came in with a high of 35 F, today looks to be the same. Lows in the 20's. Fall has arrived.
-
Our first freeze looks to be early this year, coming in tomorrow!
-
After few nice and warm days sadly now we're moving towards the more normal temps for the season...and ofcourse that means COLD.
Winter is coming...there's no way around that sickening fact.
-
Yep, it's gonna be a winter this year.
-
Well last warm day today...5C for the most part. Got a lot done. Washed the car, the grill, the mower tractor, changed to winter wheels, washed the summer wheels, emptied the rain water barrels and gave the car a coating and washed and lubricated all the door seals so they won't freeze up.
Should go below freezing tonight and tomorrow just 1 or 2C and then after that for the next few days below freezing even during the day time!
So again we went straight from unseasonably warm weathers to unseasonably cold weather...it's always either or never something in between...hate that.
-
Drove in the rain all day Monday and had some unseasonably cool days here in San Antonio the last two days. I drive back to Dallas tomorrow, hopefully it's partly cloudy. I like some sun when I drive.
-
Gotta say I'm happy to not be living in or around Buffalo, NY right now lol.
Speaking of the NE USA, anyone heard anything from our resident Gargoyle lately?
-
No I haven't...have been bit worried actually...
Well it's snowing here now! >:(
-
I think I've forgotten what a dry day looks like!
-
Little over an inch of snow so far...
This is bollocks.
-
Highs in the mid 50s F for the rest of the week. Mild and sunny. I'll enjoy some of that weather for you all - now that I'm on the tail end of this covid bullshit I can move around some without falling over lol.
-
Cloudy and rainy days forecast for this week. But it's very warm on the inside of the house...
-
4 Celsius today and cloudy. It has been very cold these last few weeks sometimes going below freezing and actually snowing for a day, but nothing stuck around.
-
It's so cold here in Texas, we're actually getting cold water when we turn on the cold water tap. :smug:
-
We've had out first sub-zero nights this week. Daytime are mainly around 2-6C with some snow in Scotland and maybe northern England.
-
High yesterday was 25C, but we're moving into cooler, wetter weather starting tonight.
-
Snow snow snow and more fucking snow.
I
HATE
WINTER
!
-
Snow snow snow and more fucking snow.
I
HATE
WINTER
!
So, if I understand you correctly, you're not a fan of snow? :D
-
No no I am not.
Aaaaaand on that note there's a blizzard heading this way for the evening/night. Big winds 4 to 6 inches of snow...means big drifts...and temp is already at -9C (16F) and going down...
Goddamnit!
-
Oh man that is rough stuff. It is a grey, chilly day here in Dallas, but above freezing and no snow in the forecast, and I'm very thankful for that.
-
Having some heavy weather in DFW today, looks like the worst storm cells will pass north of me. Sky is the wrong color for gentle rain, it's kind of an electric orange-gray...
-
While it has been cold down the southern end of the UK - probably -5C over night, maybe 2-3C at the moment - it's nothing like the lows at Braemar in Scotland... -17C on Sunday night and didn't get warmer than -9.3C during the day on Monday. That's the coldest day time temp anywhere in the UK since 2010. Monday night was supposed to be colder still.
Yes, I realise Charger experiences worse.
-
One of those days where I keep the weather on as I work... there's some potential tornado formation right over DFW airport - very glad I'm not traveling today!
Very heavy downpours on on Fort Worth, which is about 60 miles west of me, looks like it will be on top of me in about an hour or so. Edge of the rain should be here in half an hour or less.
-
Quite a night...
Luckily we only ended up getting around 4 inches of fresh now, but with the wind there was quite a lot of drifts everywhere. Luckily didn't get stuck but it took me over an hour longer (and had to leave some people out) to finish my route.
Drove straight into a 20 inch drift once that I didn't even see luckily I just about got through without getting stuck.
In case if I haven't mentioned it before..
I
HATE
SNOW!!!
-
The storm front has passed over, now clear and cooler behind it.
-
Still cold, sunny days barely more than 1-2C, nights are down to -6/-7C. But no snow where we are but sometimes a heavy frost in the morning can almost look like snow. But all change Sunday when a warm front comes in from the SW, by Monday we could be as high as 13C! And it should stay in double figures for the rest of the week.
-
We had -19C yesterday but luckily things are looking better as next week we should get above 0 again and some rain! Which is nice! Time to get rid of this white shit.
-
While broad swaths of the US have been getting hammered with fierce weather (4' of snow in ND!), here in the center of it all we've had temps around freezing and maybe two snowflakes.
-
So two nights ago we had -19C (-2F) and now it's +2 (36F)! Quite a change! And I'm loving it!
-
Touched freezing this morning in Dallas, warmed up to 10C as of now.
-
Oh touched freezing...sheesh that must feel like nuclear winter in Texas!
-
It went down to -4 C last night and it is currently -3 at this early morning hours. Suppose to go down to -6 and snow an inch or so but nothing will stick around as it is going to go back up to 8 C in a few days.
-
Oh touched freezing...sheesh that must feel like nuclear winter in Texas!
We will have a low of 10F this Friday. We are going to cancel EVERYTHING, even canceling! :smug:
-
low in the teens F tonight, currently snowing, turning to freezing rain/rain, then stopping overnight.
-
Lots of rain last night signalled a rise in temps to around 12-14C.
-
Heading into arctic temps for a few days in Dallas, starting tomorrow. BRR!!! Cancel Christmas, move it up a week and push New Year's to February! I'll call up the lads in Qatar to see how they got the World Cup moved around and do likewise. :smug:
-
After couple of nice warm days (with nice rain and melting of the snow) it is now....yeah you guessed it....SNOWING again!
Ho ho fuckin' ho we're getting a white christmas...Bing Crosby can suck it.
-
Any of my North American friends here having issues with the Arctic Storm sweeping across the country? I can not imagine a wind chill of -70F / -55C.
-
Yesterday, the high was 0 F. Today the high is -7 F. Winds ~20mph, gusts up to 45mph. Wind chill -25 F to -40 F.
We got just a little bit of snow yesterday, maybe 2 inches.
Within a hundred mile radius of my house, there are specific instances of power outages, but they have been handled within a few hours, from what I've seen on the news. Otherwise, no problems. Just really COLD. Kansas City, Missouri is the closest big town to me, for reference. Other parts of the country aren't faring so well. I imagine Typhon has been getting blasted.
I blame Thel for sending all of this artic nonsense down here.
-
Any of my North American friends here having issues with the Arctic Storm sweeping across the country? I can not imagine a wind chill of -70F / -55C.
I'm in North America; more specifically, Ontario (Canada). The wind chill here isn't that bad; fortunately I don't have to go out until Sunday, by which time the storm is forecast to have (mostly) passed.
Ted
-
Had one pipe freeze here, the others are fine and we have power.
-
The temperature is finally starting to move in the positive direction - currently 7 degrees with a forecast high of 17. Monday, highs in the mid thirties. by Thursday, they're calling for a high of 55.
We are lucky in that none of our pipes here have had issues, sorry to hear about yours Z, that's a PIA for sure.
-
It's just the pipe to the washing machine, and it froze last time we had the deep freeze for a few days. Tuesday is when we stay above freezing and then Thursday the highs are in the high 60s/around 20F.
-
GODDAMN!
Here's another damn good reason to
Fuckin'
HATE
SNOW!

^^^
I saw that earlier, didn't know the details though. Sounds like a long recovery could be on the cards.
-
Indeed...who knows might be he might even lose the leg...scary stuff.
We had 4 inches of wet snow today...sucky. And then on the end of the week we're seeing temps plummeting to -20C (-4F)...
Stupid winter!
-
2 inches of snow yesterday and another 2 inches today...
Goddamnit Jim I'm a doctor not a plowman!
-
Using the space heater today and then the ceiling fan tomorrow. Roller coaster Texas weather for the next few days. At least no snow, so praise be!
-
Wet and windy for the last few days, but not particularly cold. Looks much the same for the rest of the week.
-
Mid fifties today, on the cloudy side but nice overall.
It is 6:30 pm as I type this, and in two hours the temps are going to drop twenty degrees, it's going to start sleeting, and by 6 am tomorrow there is supposed to be 2 inches of snow sitting on top of a quarter inch of ice.
High for tomorrow ~35 F.
-
Much colder here now, but dry. Yay for dry cold!
-
Finally some much needed rain and warmer temperatures! Me likes! Snow is melting fast!
-
Finally some much needed rain and warmer temperatures! Me likes! Snow is melting fast!
That is GOOD news!
-
After all the wind and rain of the last few days it's turning colder for the next few. Not expecting any snow this far south, but upcountry might get some.
-
Lots of rain here for the past few days...Snow's pretty much gone and so is the ice thank god....And it also looks like we're not getting any freezing temps this week either which is super nice!
-
NOAA is issuing a tropical storm forecast... in January!
-
So it was supposed to be nice and warm this week and what do I see when I look out? An inch and a half of wet fuckin' snow! Bull.
-
False spring is over here for a few weeks, normal winter gray starting today.
-
Rainy and cold yesterday, rainy and cold then snowy and cold today. Nothing accumulating, but somehow the gloom is what I imagine Norway to be like.
-
Pretty warm day today...with temp above +5C (40F)
Now they are saying though that the polar vortex might be dying out for this winter which will mean a serious temperature drop in these parts...not looking forward to that...at all.
-
We may be getting through February and early March with only a few more freezes, but the specter or another drought this summer hangs over us.
-
Well so much for the warmth then...a massive blizzard is expected to hit tonight...some parts might get 10 inches of snow! Thankfully here it should be around 5 inches...but I was already gearing up for spring so the last thing I need is more of this white shit!
-
^^^
That might be storm Otto which hit Scotland last night causing widespread problems
-
Just had a mini heat wave here with consecutive days in the mid and high 30’s. The last few years summers haven’t been as hot as previous years and when we do get a run of hot days we seem to be getting more humidity down south akin to NSW and QLD weather as apposed to the really dry heat we’ve always had.
-
Cold, had some ice and snow yesterday that snarled traffic but it's gone from the streets now. They're calling for highs in the upper 50's and sunny for the next several days - looking forward to that!
-
At least Australia is heading into footy weather! It's refreshing to watch chilly Australians in the middle of the Texas heat, reminds me that the cycle of seasons will continue as expected. :)
-
So we ended up getting 7 inches of snow...shit.
-
That's a significant amount of snow! Somehow, I've always thought of Finland as being covered in snow all the time. I think that's because I've never been there and the pictures I've seen of places in Finland had snow on the ground.
-
7 inches of snow is awful! Oh my!
-
We ended up getting almost 2 more inches today! Sucky.
Finland is a long country...the northern part (Lapland) is usually very covered in snow from november to april.....but the south part is a whole different story!
-
This week has been almost spring like but that's about to end next week when the cold front from the dissipated Polar Vortex hits...temps go below -10C (14F) and maybe colder even...
That
Will
SUCK!
-
It will! Oh my, that's always a blow, that extra bit of winter that just won't go home!
-
It is very cold 🥶 lately but it is supposed to warm up in the next few weeks. Winter is holding on for now.
-
Same here... -8C (18F) now and it will drop to below -15C (5F) at night...This winter has been looooooooong...and no signs of it letting go this month...
-
Meanwhile in Texas, it's pollen season starting right now.
AHHHHHHH-TCHOO!
-
It's turning colder here for a few days. A risk of snow but it probably won't come quite this far south, we'll probably just get some rain instead.
-
The cold continues and now with some extra snow as well...we should expect at least 2 inches during the night.... >:(
-
It's been in the 60's F here the past couple of days. Dropping down to highs in the 40's tomorrow and the foreseeable future. Raining at the moment.
-
Gonna get rain here tonight and tomorrow, wash out the pollen for a day or so.
-
Well we're having the usual up and down weather again...days can be bit above freezing and nights are below...so what melts during the day freezes over night....
-
Two days ago it got down to 12 degrees F with gusty winds and a wind chill of 0. Yesterday it got up to 60 degrees F, bright and sunny. Today it is 40 degrees F and raining all day. Multiple personality syndrome weather lol
-
Wet but mild, colder weather coming in a day or two.
-
Big storms a-comin' here starting tomorrow.
-
Winter is just not letting go!
2 inches of snow yesterday and tomorrow the forecast says maybe 10 inches!! TEN INCHES in the last week of march...that's ridiculous. Also the temps are crashing down to -10C (14F) again...in lapland there's been temps below -37C (-35) which is an all time record cold for march...so much for global warming! Hah!
-
It has been rainig all day long! The temperature is above zero.
In Russia we measure temperature in Centigrades (C).
-
6 Inches of snow so far and no sign of stopping!
Goddamn global warming! ... Oh wait.
-
^ No, that's what it is. It melted somewhere colder and shifted over to you. More of that to come.
Meanwhile, over here in Texas, we have severe droughts more frequently because the stuff that melts where it's colder doesn't get all that far. :(
-
Well didn't end up getting quite 10 inches...just 9! But for the end of march that is extremely rare in these parts!
-
Well yesterday we got another 3 inches so 12 inches total after all...crazy...just crazy.
-
Wet and windy again tonight, but quite mild.
-
It's been cold 🥶 for the past few days, very unusual for here at this time of year.
-
Well we're in a huge up and down action now... Days are around +5C and nights can be over -10C...the snow ain't melting. This is stupid.
-
Just over 90F for the high today, then just under 70F for the high Wednesday. Springtime in Texas!
-
It's been quite warm and spring like for the last few days, but still chilly in the shade.
-
Chilly today, warmer at the weekend as we head back up on our rolling hills of temperatures.
-
Mid fifties today, sunny. Same for the weekend, gradually going up to low seventies by mid next week. I believe spring weather is finally here, primarily because the geese in the area have finally started heading out over the past few days.
-
Well finally Spring has arrived! 13C (55F) and sunny. Snow is melting fast and first flowers are starting to bloom!
The downside ofcourse is that my allergies are starting to act up again!
-
High 70s/low 80s F for the next week, nice and even and pleasant. This is the best weather week so far this year in Dallas!
SUMMER IS COMING
Oh crap, I just remembered things will start melting in a month or so...
-
We topped 60F today which was nice! Still below freezing at night though...
-
Spring is finally here at least during the day, as it is still going down to nearly zero C at night.
-
Really great weather, week 2. Loving it.
-
Gentlemen, I think we're in the midst of a planetary alignment of some sort, as the weather hereabouts is very nice as well!
-
Lock it in! Keep the world right where it is!
-
Gentlemen, I think we're in the midst of a planetary alignment of some sort, as the weather hereabouts is very nice as well!
Next I guess we're seeing an apocalyptical event!
-
Gentlemen, I think we're in the midst of a planetary alignment of some sort, as the weather hereabouts is very nice as well!
Next I guess we're seeing an apocalyptical event!
BRACE FOR IMPACT!
Have to say, though, it's an absolutely lovely day for it!
-
Goddamn it's cold! 4C (39F) outside now...this is March temps not May! And a really spiky northernly wind to boot!
Central part of Finland is getting SNOW right now! Snow! In May! Yup...we're all gonna die of extreme heat!
-
Ah, remember, the extreme heat is further north of you in the arctic lands, that's what sends the snow to the subarctic areas.
-
Sunny and Warm here now...+25C (77F) and about million tons of pollen in the air.
-
It's been quite pleasant for a few days, and should remain that way for the rest of the week... but it's not that warm and may only get to around 20C.
-
A stretch of cool days in front of us here in Dallas, "cool" meaning the highs will be in the high 70s-mid 80s F, or 24-28 C.
-
Still dry and sunny with a light breeze, and should be the same for the next few days. But it's still not that warm... which is fine by me I don't like it too hot and we are getting low 20C.
-
Meanwhile, the El Niño and record hot Atlantic waters look to cancel each other out and give us a normal hurricane season.
-
And we're getting yet another record breaking cold..June is around the corner and we can't get temps over 14C (57F)! Nights might go below freezing again!
It's official Global warming has been canceled.
-
Global cooling was a thing circa 1973. "A New Ice Age is coming" was the mantra - heard about it all the time.
Maybe they were right, just had their timing off?
Weather has been spot-on around here lately - couldn't ask for better!
-
Sadly global warming relates to the entire worlds temperature. North Atlantic regions might get colder if the Gulf Stream disappears... so all that lovely warm water will stay in the Caribbean.
-
Fuck the Caribbean. I mean, how shady is an entire region that woke up one day and decided everyone should pronounce their name differently? They can keep their sweet, sweet warmth! Bastards.
-
Fuck the Caribbean.
That's some slackness in your lyrics, sir! You've been listening to King Yellowman again, haven't you?
-
lol +1 awesome for slackness recognition!
-
Getting colder and colder again... Just 10C right now and it's fucking JUNE!
-
Up to 90F in Dallas, getting hotter.
-
Glad I'm not in NYC or the Eastern USA in general... that Canadian smoke is BAD.
-
Seen some of the pictures/video from NYC. All of that Canadian smoke gives everything in NYC an eerie appearance. I imagine lake Erie is looking extra eerie, too. Doesn't Tommy Chong live in Canada now?
-

DON'T BLAZE IT UP, TOMMY! CONDITIONS ARE TOO DRY!!!
Now I can't look at the map of Canadian fires without imagining them as concentrations of potheads... the fact that there's a ton of fire icons over BC doesn't help me break that imagining...
-
It's been sunny and dry for much of the last 15-20 days, but it's not been so warm - low to mid 20s. Today that all changed --high 20s -- and the weekend will be worse, 30C is very likely. The reason is that the last few weeks the breeze has been northerly... now it's coming in from continental Europe!
-
40 C here in Dallas right now, according to my weather app.
-
Pretty nice weather this week... temps around 70F and sunny....nights have been super cold still though...with around 35F...
Next week it's gonna change though as it'll go over 80F maybe even 85F.
-
^ Those are morning lows in the early and late summer here in Texas! The globe is full of variety, I tell you...
-
We almost clocked 30C today... But I still managed to put on few more slabs down for my garden path...It's coming along nicely.
No sign of rain...things are starting to be really really really REALLY dry...need to water plants every day now.
First it was too cold now it's too hot...and because of the insane electricity prices using an air con is out of the question so sleep soon becomes a thing I cannot have...25C (77F) inside now...when it gets above 26C it's virtually impossible to sleep anymore...But I'll sleep when I'm dead...
-
Highs today should hit 35C, with over 90% humidity.
Texas is where electricity prices do not matter, we will have the AC.
I'm doing a move called "supercooling". Basically, run the AC to take temps down to 70F/21C at night. Then, during the day, don't have the AC kick on unless it gets over 75F/24C. Most days, it's sweltering outside and the AC isn't on until just before sundown. Saves a lot on electricity, overall.
-
And today we did clock 30C!! 30.7C at the moment to be exact.
Yup...it's warm.
-
Especially for Finland! Uff!
-
Still warm... 31C (88F) again today... But I still got a lot of things done in the yard...
-
The humidity was so high today, I was glad I stayed indoors and even gladder after an afternoon thunderstorm broke and got most of the water out of the air.
-
A bit of rain today finally...but only a little bit...not much help.
-
Humidity so high right now it made me stupid this morning. I felt totally fresh and ready until I walked into the wall of water vapor just outside my door. Oof.
-
Slight draught conditions around here currently. About 85 F and sun all over the place. Humidity, thankfully, is ~50%.
-
Drought getting more severe here. Current temp 106 / 41. With humidity, it's 116 / 45. Grass is turning yellow, gonna need a break in the heat and rain soon...
Yesterday, we had lightning. No rain, just lightning. I don't care for lightning without rain.
-
Rain this morning! Happy day! High will be only around 90 / 32! Nice and cool(er) today!
-
Lots of rain (thunder & lightning too) and sunshine yesterday, just warm and generally sunny today, not especially hot.
-
Temperatures are nice for now, but will be back up towards 40C later this week. With the heat index, add on another 5-10C for the impact on the body. Owch!
-
mid 90's and dry. That's going to change in about twelve hours and I'm looking at mid 90's, a 60% chance of thunderstorms, and the 90% humidity that always tags along. For about the next week.
Hey, at least I don't live in Vermont!
-
Oh lort yes, that state is looking at a possible dam failure. Not a good situation there at all.
-
Temperatures projected for 60C in Spain and 45C in Italy. That's some real hell, there. I'd expect vegetation drying to accelerate and increase the fire danger in those places, along with Greece and Turkey, also in that hell zone.
-
Some nice weather here for a change... temp bit over 20C (70s F) and bit of a breeze every day. Today there's a slight chance of drizzle which is nice too.
-
The world seems to melting in unprecedented heat waves... meanwhile in the UK it's below average temperature for this time of year, unseasonably windy on occasions and rain expected for the weekend!
-
I had to get stuff out of the car yesterday, in the 40+ heat. In almost no time, I felt my brain cooking and my insides about to shut down, it was awful. I had to get out in the sun to cool down!
-
July was one of the coldest ones we've had in a long time...very rainy in parts too...not here though...pretty normal rain wise but not very warm at all.
Now it's raining though...and should rain for the next 5 or days straight.
-
July has not been too nice in the UK, some areas have had record rain. Today wet and windy again and no sign of summer arriving any time soon.
-
Most of the USA found out what a Texas July is like. Those of us in Texas had a hot one, all right.
-
the director of our Laredo, Texas office flew up a few weeks ago for some work-stuff. He was wearing a sweater one day (it was maybe 90 F out), so I asked him if he was brain damaged. He indicated that he was, in fact, brain damaged because the heat they've been having in Laredo (notoriously hot all the time anyway) has caused him to think 90 is cold.
-
^ I've seen kids from Northern India with coats and gloves on in 90 degrees because 120F is normal summer heat for them.
-

-
Hahahaha!
-
Oh that made my day! :D
-
We might be in for a supercell thunderstorms on Monday/tuesday...CAPE is looking very very high plus the low pressure system looks super low...980mbar even which is very uncommon for this time of year....heck it's bit unusual even for fall storms.
Temps might rocket up to 30C on Monday which then leads to the arrival of a cold front from the south...makings of a perfect storm.
-
Yep, that's the weather we get in spring and fall, hope that things don't get too crazy for you when the heat and cold mash into each other.
-
Well that was a whole lot of fuss about nothing. The bulk of the storm went to Sweden...
Bit of wind here that's it. Not a single lightning flash nothing...
Some storm damage though as my barbeque took a tumble and went to shit. It was a pretty heavy grill so I'm bit surprised that it got such a force in the wind to knock it down...but it did and now it's destroyed. Well honestly didn't do a lot of barbequing this year so it's not a big deal...other than financially ofcourse...but hey what's another 300€ to already a catastrophic financial year...
-
Was in dry heat in Albuquerque the last few days, now in the wet heat in Dallas.
Dry heat is SO much better. Ah well, October's only a month and a half away, more or less...
-
Wonderful few days here in Dallas, where the overnight lows are in the upper 70s / 25-26C. Back to hell on Thursday, but I'm so thankful for two nights where it's cool enough outside that my AC isn't running all night.
-
Texas heat.
:rage:
It's 111F / 43-44C out there and I had to take a cool-down shower after running only 2 errands and bringing in groceries. While it's true my body doesn't handle heat well, this is insane stuff we got this year. August only part-way through and we still have the heat of the first part of September before it gets below 100/38.
Meanwhile, Southern California is getting its first-ever tropical storm watch and is set to get a year's worth of rain in a weekend. A little rain would be nice here, but there's such a thing as "too much" of something you want...
-
Today was perfect weather to be outside. One of those rare days that comes around once or twice a year.
Starting tomorrow it'll be muggy and 100 degrees. So heat index will probably be 110 or so. Supposed to hang around for a week or so.
Funq dis shit.
-
Dallas *might* get a day early next week where the high is *only* 99F.
:rage:
-
We're had pretty nice weather now...around 20C (70F) and some rain every now and then.
-
400 degrees F. In my oven, but the blast of heat when I open my backdoor doesn't feel much different haha.
-
400 degrees F. In my oven, but the blast of heat when I open my backdoor doesn't feel much different haha.
It does not feel different at all.
And with the overnight lows being so high, my house as a whole isn't cooling down as much overnight, so it heats up all the faster the next day.
I'm getting a radiant barrier installed and an insulation top-off when I get my solar panels installed. And I got a solid contractor to do the work, very highly recommended by real people. :)
-
Rainy day today with some distant rumble of thunder! Me likes!
-
^ that thunder is waaaaaaaaaaaay too distant for my area! :D
But we're supposed to get below 100F next week. Maybe. Also a 20% chance of rain on a few days.
-
104 and rising still. Probably top out about 108. Heat Index is 115.
Going to be hotter tomorrow.
Then back to highs in the mid to upper 80s. Whew.
Looking at a weather map of the USA, there's basically been this heat dome sitting on a 500 mile wide stretch of land from southern Texas all the way to Minnesota, right up and down I-35 in the center of it.
-
Big ol' drought going on here. Not as bad as the last one, but still turning all the grass yellow. Very much hoping that the chance of rain for Sunday and Monday pays out and we get some good soakers.
-
Rain....all day...rain!
-
Still drought here, but the highs are only in the mid-90s this week, so we'll take that. For the C folks, that's highs around 35-36C, positively much nicer than the ones over 40 we've had in the last few weeks.
-
All the flight cancellations in Europe right now! Is that due to the weather? Asking for a friend... :D
-
Flight cancelations? Haven't heard anything...so nothing special around these parts atleast...
-
More rain here today....
-
The flight problems were due to UK Air Traffic Controllers having a technical glitch which was resolved after a few hours but by then it had compromised flights for the next few days.
-
The flight problems were due to UK Air Traffic Controllers having a technical glitch which was resolved after a few hours but by then it had compromised flights for the next few days.
UGH, yes, read up more on it... someone filed a dodgy plan and instead of kicking it out with a "no", the system accepted it... then was programmed to block ALL OTHER flights because of the issue created by the dodgy one.
-
A nice day today...little rain earlier and now sunny and warm...was thinking about cycling but slept so poorly last night I have zero energy....
-
Today and tomorrow are killer heat days over 40C... and then the big front moves in and we have a week of much cooler temperatures and lots of soaking rain - I do hope that scenario pans out!
-
Last warm day of the year... Temp was above 20C (70F) which is not too common for this time of the year...but tomorrow comes a big rain front and that'll turn things around with a cold northenly blow and we'll be dropping below 15C (60F) and then welcome autumn.
-
We've gone from over 100F to highs in the mid-upper 80s F, a nice 10-degree C swing. Best of all, the overnight lows are low enough for the AC to not have to run all night, so we can start seeing lower electric bills.
I'm also getting my solar panels installed today - good, quality outfit with strong references and a local presence. They will cover about 70-85% of my total electric bill for the year, looking forward to that kicking in.
-
What did they cost installed? Have you calculated how long it'll take for them to pay themselves back?
-
We have some major federal and state incentives, so that knocked about a third off the total price. 10 years and they'll have paid for themselves, should the electricity rate not go up in that time. Rates go up, payoff happens sooner.
-
Well 10 years is good. Helps to have those incentives...here it's closer to 15 years...although with electricity prices doubling over the past year has shortened it a bit but it is still bit too much...especially considering most of the systems might break in 10 years...
Rainy day today...but there was just enough dry for me to break out the chainsaw again and finish cutting the trees in the forest...and didn't even bust my back this time! Yaaay!
-
We have quite a lot of sunshine here in Texas, so it's a prime area for generating solar power.
High today up around 94F/34C, chilly!
-
Now this is pretty crazy!
It's past midnight here and temp is still above 19C (66F) and it's late September! We didn't have a single night this warm in June OR July!!! Crazy! I can't remember ever having a night this warm this late before! Really warm wind coming from the south...preceding a rain front. Forecast doesn't promise thunder though...I guess it is bit too late in the year for that...
-
We hit over 100F yesterday and might scratch it today. Summer's last laugh here in Texas.
-
As we turn to October the rather warm weather is going to pass for good now as temps are going to drop to around 10C (50F) and nights are going to get even colder...no below freezing yet though thankfully. But it is a dramatic sudden drop non the less....Also the occational rains and storms will return... Autumn is finally here.
-
Well we had our first below freezing night last night and naturally it ended up freezing few of my plants...it was a bit of a surprise freeze...just hoping it didn't kill them off...
Day temp has firmly dropped below 10C (50F) now as well....
-
We've got a bit of a heatwave at the moment... well in the south of the UK anyway. Tomorrow we're looking at mid-20s C which is perhaps 10C above te average for the time of year. It still gets a little chilly at night though.
-
Rainy day today...but warm. Temp's above 13C (55F) very nice.
-

My wife and I were in London last 2 weeks and there were days there that it was hotter than back in Dallas. Not too hot for walking, thank goodness, though some days it threatened those kinds of highs.
-
Glad you're back - another two weeks and I would have had to start searching obits. A sad habit I picked up from our shared trauma with Mr. Underdog.

It's ok, I knew he was in London... I'd just forgotten for the first week! To be fair we do have modern technology like the internet in the UK, so I'm sure Mr Zs could have checked in here!! :smug:
-
To be sure, I had suspended most of my Internetting in favor of having time with the missus and/or sleeping. :D
Fun moment from my trip: Meeting David Baddiel at Stonehenge!
-
Fun moment from my trip: Meeting David Baddiel at Stonehenge!
Stonehenge is great. I quite like David Baddiel too.
Any other touristy "must sees" ticked off your list?
-
Stood on the Greenwich Meridian - tick!
Cutty Sark visit - tick!
Kew Gardens - tick!
Tower Bridge - tick!
Did a cheap bus tour so... Big Ben, St. James' Garden, Trafalgar Square, St. Paul's Cathedral, Tower of London, Buckingham Palace, Number 10, Winchester Palace - tickticktickticktickticktickticktick!
:D
Favorite museum was London Transport Museum.
-
MEANWHILE IN TEXAS
Fall is here! It's noon time and only 61F out there AND we had a partial eclipse today! Used my special eclipse-viewing glasses and got a great view of the spectacle. We had 70% coverage here in Dallas. Next year, full 100% eclipse in April!
-
You should have gone up to Diddly Squat too while you were around... :D Or to that pub just between Salisbury and Shaftesbury....
Bit windy here at the moment...one might even say bit stormy...but just a bit.
-
We did try to see the Taskmaster house, but couldn't get the time into the day we were out by Kew to do it.
-
We have Storm Babet sweeping across the north of the country and Scotland, lots of wind and rain with associated flooding and downed trees etc there's a rare Red weather warning in parts of Scotland. In the south we had a lot of rain, but not much in the way of wind, so hasn't affected us too badly.
-
Creeping back up to 90F here in Dallas today and tomorrow, but rain should be coming next week.
-
Cold cold cold. Northenly wind and 4C (40F)...COLD!
-
My solar panels are finally running and generating power - sunny day in Dallas got me around 37 KWh of electricity.
The hold up was due to a part that took weeks instead of days to arrive.
-
Do you have a battery for storage of the charge generated by the solar panels or does it just run straight into your mains?
-
Straight to the mains, battery storage is too expensive right now. Would still need a separate generator to run power in the event of a general outage.
-
Straight to the mains, battery storage is too expensive right now. Would still need a separate generator to run power in the event of a general outage.
Makes sense. I've lightly pondered solar panels over the years, twice seriously. First time was years ago, and a doctor at the hospital I worked at had just installed a bunch. I started looking into it, then asked him some questions. The upshot: way too expensive for me.
More recently I ran across a guy on youtube explaining his setup. A couple of panels for $600, and a storage system for $1800. The storage system was plug and play. I determined I would need more than what that guy had, but the cost was still reasonable if it allowed me to unhook from the utility.
The guy is in Germany, so I looked into the laws where I'm at. No go. Doubtful that the plug and play approach ever will be a go, for several reasons, so that system is out of the question. And like you, I found that an appropriate battery system at this point is simply too much $$$.
When the situation changes such that I can be self-sufficient regarding energy needs, I will be all over it. I know solar panel tech improves all the time, and so does battery tech, so hopefully sometime in my lifetime :)
-
May want to check out if there's incentives for solar in KC. Texas has its own power grid (and the woes associated with it), so there are big incentives here from the state but even bigger federal ones.
-
Things just got real over here! Real COLD that is! Below freezing now all day! That's very very rare for this time of the year....doesn't look good for the longetivity of my pumpkin carvings this year... :(
-
My friend in North Dakota got his first snowfall yesterday. Cold one on the way, maybe?
-
High today was 67, that was at 0900 this morning and it dropped all day. It's 45 right now. The high tomorrow is slated to be 40, the high Sunday: 34. Fahrenheit. With a low of 23 and maybe 1 inch of sleet/snow.
It was 80 two days ago.
-
We're getting rain and highs in the upper 30s, and, yeah, we were mid-80s yesterday.
I'm thinking this is a slow-moving Canadian front with an attitude.
-
We had some snow the other day! And about 100 miles north of here over 10 inches!! That's almost unheard of at this time of year.
Now temps are above freezing again, just about but still. Snow's gone thank god.
Back to rain for the rest of the week.
-
We are on the temperature roller coaster in Texas. High of 59F today... 72F Saturday... 78F Monday... 86F Wednesday... then WHAMMO down to 66F next Thursday for the high!
-
Storm Ciaran struck today, quite windy and wet where we are, butu not as bad as some places not too far away that have had flooding and transport disruption.
-
Lots more rain today... I've suggested it goes to Texas!
-
Well, it gets here tomorrow. Thanks! :)
-
You're welcome! It's got there quite fast?!
-
Hmmm I think the rain got confused from KDC's requests as it came here as well...it should rain about 5 days straight here next!
-
Hmmm I think the rain got confused from KDC's requests as it came here as well...it should rain about 5 days straight here next!
WTF, KDC??? YOU HAD ONE JOB!!! :D
-
Hmmm I think the rain got confused from KDC's requests as it came here as well...it should rain about 5 days straight here next!
WTF, KDC??? YOU HAD ONE JOB!!! :D
There was enough rain for both of you... I'm generous like that!
-
Well...now it's rained nearly 2 days straight here. Things are getting rather wet. But hey rather this and below freezing temps!
-
Sunny and cool around here - 32 F but with a high of 55 F. Forecast for the next seven days calls for sun every day with highs in the mid 60s and lows in the high 30s. Solid November weather.
-
Same as Vyn, but about 5-10 degrees F warmer. :D
-
Well last rainy day tomorrow and then we're of to winter conditions with below freezing weather...but luckily no snow in sight yet!
-
No snow here in Texas, either! :D
-
Snow? What's that? HahahahAHhAhAhAaaaHAhhhhAhaha!
-
Cold cold cold....and snow! Winter in November is bullshit!
-
We had rain yesterday. Very thankful it wasn't the solid stuff!
-
Bit of a winter storm coming...wind has picked up quite a bit and we're expected to get around 5-6 inches of wet snow tonight...yuck!
-
Fall here in Texas. Clear and cool, good for my solar panels! :D
-
Things have gotten chilly! -9C (16F) at the moment...and going down! It is exteremely abnormal to have temps this low in November. Come on global warming do your thing damnit! The people demand WARMTH!!!
-

But that's just it - the warming increases the likelihood of extreme temperature swings. Also extreme weather events - I'm braced for the fact that big ice storms are going to be more frequent in Texas and that I'll have to just ride them out.

Well it better start warming things up here and fast damnit! This is cold is ridiculous! But sadly if the global warming goes on as predicted this area (The whole Scandinavia region) will actually get COLDER as the warming effect of the Golf Stream is going to diminish or die out entirely...so this will become what Alaska is now(and without all the paranormal activity!)...and that's not only a yikes but a no no for me and I'll be heading somewhere warm!
-
I can put a good word in for you here in Texas, if you'd like!
-
Texas has some good attributes...including GMG!
Still cold....-13C now...and wind is picking up so you can add another -10 to that with the wind chill!
-
It's chilly in the UK too... not Finland chilly of course!
-
Well we got about 2 inches of snow last night....luckily it's gotten bit warmer now with only -4C (25F)...but it won't last...by the end of the week we're dropping below -15C again! It is extremely rare to have temps like these in late november/early December around here.
-
We're about to have a massive cold snap hit the USA. It will go around Texas but smash into Georgia and Northern Florida - below freezing temps for pretty much the whole eastern USA.
North Dakota will be doing its Finland impersonation. :D
-
Major solar storms hitting Earth today, they might disrupt communica
-
Turned out to be much less major and much more normal that one!
And it's dripping snow again...it's been dripping snow for 5 days straight now...not a lot but just enough so that I have to plough everything every day....major annoyance.
And it's getting colder and colder again...some forecasts even say that it might crack -20C (-4F) next week...which would be insane! Stupid winter.
-
Chilly, no cold, today as I make my way to the first of three Xmas parties this year. Today it is SF groups
-
37 F here at 3pm, sky is overcast, like a smooth grey bowl. Zero wind, high humidity and slightly hazy. This morning before and during sunrise the fog was impenetrable.
-
Having a working vacation to visit my wife's friends on the South Coast of Texas. It's *quite* pleasant here. :smug:
-
COLD!
-18C (0F) at the moment...expected to go below -20 tonight... I honestly can't remember these kinds of temps in early december....maybe back in the 90s...
-
He hey! The freeze is over! The RAIN has arrived and the snow is melting fast! Now this is my kind of winter weather!
-
NE USA is getting hit very hard, lots of high winds, flooding rains, and downed trees.
-
Snow snow snow and more snow!
-
Just cold weather here. It's above freezing around the clock, but still darn chilly for Texas!
-
Bought a boreal shirt the other day - looking forward to getting that thing. Hasn't been too cold lately, but here in a couple of weeks things are supposed to get frozen for a good long while. That shirt will help keep me alive, I hope it gets here soon!
-
We're looking at the coldest beginning of January in over 20 years!
In Lapland temps will go down to -45C (49F!! F's are higher(or lower if you will) than C's!) and down here we're looking at -30C (-22F) potentially.
So the record breaking cold winter just keeps on giving. Climate change my ass! We're going to freeze to death before global warming ever even reaches here!
-
Nope, that *is* climate change due to overall global warming. Massive swings in climate, including cold temps more intense than ever before. The Gulf Stream shutting down can be a consequence of overall global warming, which can trigger an ice age within a matter of years, according to data recovered from core samples and tree rings.
The way it works is the massive ice melt off of Greenland is water that's at just above 0 degrees, so it is hitting the north end of the warm Gulf Stream and punching it down. Without warm waters in the upper Atlantic, there's no bulwark against Arctic air flows, so places once kept warm by the Gulf Stream start to do their Siberia impersonations.
Here in Texas, we've seen massive rainfalls in Spring washouts, cold starts to summers, and then suddenly it's multiple days over 100F and we're in a severe drought. Rainfall totals increasing *and* more severe drought are more manifestations of massive swings in climate due to overall warming. Our harsher-than-usual ice storms that shut down the grid are also products of global warming.
-
Well all I know is things around here aren't getting any warmer...quite the opposite. -19C (-2F) right now. So the fact remains somewhere it gets warm and over here it gets cold...so no matter what I'm always fucked. But I'd much rather be warm and fucked than freezing to death and fucked.
SO BRING ON THE WARMING GODDAMNIT!
-
... unless it comes with increased wildfires... remember what happened to Canada in 2023...
-
... unless it comes with increased wildfires... remember what happened to Canada in 2023...
Well that would be very unlikely in the winter...cause if by some miracle there is no snow there would be constant rain.
-
...cause if by some miracle there is no snow there would be constant rain.
Unless...I say UNLESS global warming turns Finland into The Empty Quarter!
-
I think that when that happens the last trace of humanity has been long gone with the wind. :D
-
Still extremely cold! -22C (-8F) as I'm typing now...absolutely crazy.
BUT thankfully it should "warm" up a bit during the week....+2C even...but nights will ofcourse still drop around -10C...But atleast I can wash the car for the first time in a month! Thank god!
-
We'll have sub-freezing lows coming to us after a cold front next week.
-
Texas still on schedule to do a Finland impersonation starting Sunday afternoon. And I have to travel in the middle of it, Monday morning. Yeeegh.
-
The coldest night temperature ever reported since I have lived here in Victoria
-11 with -20 windchill
I have been here since early 2001
-

That is chilly!
It was 23 at 5am, with freezing mist that hung around for a few hours. Of course there were wrecks all over the place. Since freezing mist doesn't get picked up by weather radar, a lot of folks who checked it prior to heading out got a nasty surprise!
Usually, temps will go up once daylight hits. This is one of those days where it is the opposite. As I write this at 3:40pm, it is 10 degrees. It will continue to get colder. Sunday they are calling for a high temp of 2. Some very light snow going on, we might end up with an inch or two, but there are 40 mph winds so it's blowing all over the place. And giving us a nice wind chill of -20.
Basically, we are the opposite of this:
-
^And that is what's coming to Dallas.
The weather, not the picture.
-
Brrrr....I happened to have my phone out while walking by the TV weather report, so snapped this pic.
Snowing for the next 3 hours or so.
I have turned my furnace off, and am running the fireplace - with it this cold for the next couple of days, the furnace runs non-stop and never catches up to any temp I set it at. So fuck modern tech lol
(https://www.ddever.net/img/wind_chill.jpg)
-
Oh my that is too damn cold!
-
Look... we're chilly here in the south of England... but we can't compete with that! Between -1/-2C overnight, 4-6C during the day!
-
This is about as cold as it ever gets around here. Most years it never gets that low.
I'm going to watch the Chiefs play the Dolphins in half an hour. They are playing in Kansas City, and right now the temp is -7 F. No clue what the wind chill is.
I'd have to be paid a LOT of cash before I would consider going to that game in person, and sitting around for three hours in this weather!
-
Back to the cold here as well!
-15C (5F) at the moment but tonight it should drop below 20 again (-5F) and same again tomorrow and the day after...then a proper blizzard again....man this winter is relentless!
-
Got to travel today for 8 hours in the snow and sleet, lots of gate and terminal changes at DFW airport along with 10K+ travelers whose flights had been canceled yesterday working through the system.
-
Wil be travelling to Laredo for a few days starting Feb. 9th, then off to Manzanilla, MX for two days, then Mexico City for two more before heading back. Hoping the weather straightens out before then. The DFW airport, while actually not a bad one as far as airports go, always seems to have my connecting flights on the far end so I have to ride that tram all over. And usually with only four seconds to get to the gate.
-
Terminals A and C are the main American Airlines terminals, they're next to each other. E is on the far end and handles all the other US-based carriers like Delta and Southwest. On the other side of the main road are terminals B and D. B services the smaller markets with "American Eagle" AA flights and D is the international terminal with all the non-US based carriers out of there. So if you flew in on a Delta to E or regular AA to A or C and had to hustle to the opposite corner at B to get on a Laredo flight, I can see the potential mess, especially if there was any sort of delay with the inbound flight.
I always fly direct whenever possible and tell accounting to take a hike when they ask for a reason why I turned down a cheaper flight that connected via LaGuardia. :smug:
MEANWHILE...
I'm watching a snow plow work on a parking lot out of my hotel window as I work remotely today. Company meetings in the office will resume tomorrow and Thursday.
-
Freaking chilly this morning, and although there is no snow, there are wrecks all over the place. Not sure wtf that's about, must be cold-induced delirium lol
I dislike going to our Laredo office precisely because there are no direct flights from KC to that overblown truck stop of a town.
But they do have some fantastic restaurants!
-
-20C (-5F) again...this starts to get to me already...not doing good for my psyche...
-
6 Inches of snow last night with some wind! We've got drifts! But luckily the temp's gone up! And next week it should be above freezing again! One can only dream!
-
^^^
That reminds of an on-air blooper from a few years back. No snow had arrived overnight as forecast and the attractive female newsreader turns to the weather man and says "So, where was that 8 inches you promised me last night?" apparently they had to cut to an ad-break until the studio staff managed to compose themselves!
-
Gonna get snow tomorrow for my travel back home. Fun fun fun fun fun fun fun fun fun.
-
Hellacious blizzard right now...temp is just a bit above zero so it's mostly sleet but with high winds it's getting into every crack. Debris everywhere and the occational power outages.
Was gonna go to get groceries but no way am I going out there! So I'll be on a rather lean diet today! :D
-
Got home out of the snow and ice in DC to the clear and cold in Dallas. Things have warmed up in Dallas to where we have cold rain the next three days, but no ice.
-
Finally Winter is starting to give in and we're getting some rain...sadly the down side of it is that everything is slippy as shit! Ice everywhere and it doesn't melt as the ground is so cold after such a long and brutally cold winter!
-
Next week, we almost get to 90F... 31 C at the end of February! We may have a very short spring and a long, hot summer here in Texas.
-
We're currently rockin' 65-70 F, high seventies about the same time as Z is going to be hitting 90.
-
Strong winds from the NE started up a couple of hours ago. They blew the 73 degree, sunny, awesome weather right the hell out and now we're sporting a solid 59 degrees and clouds. Forecast says down to 18 by morning, maybe two inches of snow, high of 35.
Then Thursday, back up to 75.
It's February, and I live in Missouri.
-
Holy hopping cats, that's a massive swing in weather extremes!
-
And now starts the very annoying time of early spring...
Days go above freezing and nights are way below freezing. What melts during the day freezes twice as much during the night. Also it's sunny during the days and the sun is low so it's extra annoying.
-
Springtime in Texas! Allergies and mosquitoes for everyone!
-
A small thunder cell just passed here!!!!
I don't recall having a thunder this early ever. 10 or so years ago we did have a thunder in mid april (it was just one or two hits) that broke a lot of electricals around here, I lost a computer, a printer and adsl router.
But this was much more of a summer thunder like...bunch of lightning lots of activity...almost constant rumble. Very cool indeed. And very very very rare.
-
Got an acquaintance in Czechia that reports a bunch of sand from the Sahara is being dumped on Central Europe right now.
Meanwhile, in the Southern USA, we're getting our yellow blanket of pollen right about now.
-
Aaaaand now it's snowing again! Expected to snow 6 to 8 inches.... How bloody lovely.
-
Wet and windy... but this is the UK so what would you expect!
-
We had our storms on Monday, now it is clear and fair - and cool.
-
Well we ended up having about 7 inches of snow!
Goddamn this winter needs to fuck off already! I AM DONE! DONE MAN!
-
Well we ended up having about 7 inches of snow!
Goddamn this winter needs to fuck off already! I AM DONE! DONE MAN!
I may be smiling now, but check back with me at the end of September and ask me, "how's the heat?" :D
-
Eclipse today.
Hopefully, no clouds obscuring it over Dallas.
Either way, forecast is for partly sunny this afternoon...
-
Enjoy the eclipse!
For me it'll be a bit of a wait as the next one here will be in 2126!
-
Enjoy the eclipse!
For me it'll be a bit of a wait as the next one here will be in 2126!
Take LOTS of vitamins, you might make it there!
-
It was a stunning sight, so glad I was able to take the day off to enjoy it.
-
Was 90% here, so not the funky twilight of a full eclipse, but enough to make everyone notice how much the temperature dropped simply from having those rays blocked for a handful of minutes. And then how fast it warmed back up.
People in ancient times worshiped the sun for damn good practical reasons!
-
Indeed, the sun is a master of plants and weather. You want that sun to be happy and well-fed so it retains a cherub-like demeanor!
Also rain is important, better worship that, too.
-
Speaking of rain, got that today and the next two days. At least it didn't wash out the eclipse!
-
Nice and warm day today... temp's around 55F....but at the end of the week it's gonna drop below freezing again! BELOW FREEZING IN MID APRIL!!! Are you kidding me!?!? Finland has become the coldest place on earth!! The temp was almost 5 degrees below average during last winter!!
-
It will get up to 90F later this week... and then crash down to 70F and falling the very next day.
-
Dubai got some rain... they got a lot of some rain, actually...

Action shot (ripped from a WSJ article on the Wetting of Dubai):
-
The airport there got into quite the tizzy and loads of international flights got canceled and scrambled.
-
SNOW!!! FUCKING SNOW!!! AGAIN!!! IN APRIL!!! Global Warming has been officially canceled in Finland!
-
We had a power outage yesterday due to storms. Obviously, the power is back.
-
Lets see...forecast says 5 inches of snow by morning... This is absolutely RIDICULOUS!
-
Cool day today, then a week of humid rainy days. At least it keeps the pollen washed out of the air.
-
5 inches is pretty accurate...and still snowing. Fuck this shit!
-
I'm glad that kind of weather is behind us out here in the midwest US. Bleh.
-
I'm glad that weather didn't happen down here in Texas! Hoping we don't get all the temps in the low millions this year...
-
Finland = Siberia

Meanwhile, in India... yowch!
-
That's normal for India....it's hot over there all the time! That's why they wear sandals over there!
-
Lost power and tornado sirens started soon afterward. Me and my family are in the big closet, riding out the storm.
Yes, that does mean I got the REO song in my head. The live version, of course.
We will get back our power. Until then, I am thankful for 5G.
-
^^^
I'm guessing you have a baseball bat handy to protect yourself from marauding zombies or demons?
Stay safe!
-
Winds were at 80mph earlier, down to 70mph now. That's 130kph down to 110kph.
Hail was up to 1.25 inches in diameter. That would be hail up to 3cm in diameter.
-
Well we skipped spring all together here and straight from record late winter we went into summer with temp at high 80sF for the second consecutive week. No rain everythings drying up already.
Very odd year this one.
-
Sometime in the past month, during one of the dozen or so lines of thunderstorms that have rolled through here, a location about fifty miles to the west was getting softball size hail. Someone was filming it from within their home, and it looked BRUTAL even from a shaky iPhone video, and the sound was even impressively robust.
My wife was chatting with some friends online and they were all hoping the hail petered out prior to arriving at their respective domiciles. I was secretly hoping it lasted long enough to hit my house, because we are in need of a new roof this year or next year. And that would expedite the process while at the same time causing the insurance company to foot the bill.
Nope, didn't happen haha.
-
Still no power, but crews have restored power to half the homes that lost power yesterday and are making progress in my zone. Very thankful for that.
Incredibly thankful as well for the volunteers and crews that cleared downed trees. Many roads were blocked off yesterday morning. By the evening, major roads and prominent side streets were all clear and major progress had reached residential issues. Trees that blocked off homes or that needed removal to address structural damage were targeted first after the roads were cleared, now we can get to the rest.
I have to get back to work, so that means going to my parents' house, which always seems to keep power in these events. But I am thankful for that, as well.
-
Power just got turned on at my house. :smug:
Now to download all the internet for offline viewing in case the next round of thunderstorms knocks us out! :D
Still need to see if Internet service is restored at home before I can do a full celebratory happy dance.
-
I presume the fridge/freezer content is spoiled?
-
Texas got hammered for sure, glad you all rode it out Z. Watched the weather the other night and they showed basically the entire state of Texas with some bad weather thing going on. No need to wonder whereabouts you are located, because mother nature made sure to cover all her bases.
-
Freezer content held out - surprised us all. Dairy in the fridges went out, but vegetables and pickles and things we just liked to have cooler than room temperature all survived. :)
-
That was lucky!
-
Rain again today, but the straight down type that's not trying to kill anyone.
-
I enjoy rain that lacks murderous intent!
-
As do I.
We're working on clearing out our fridge and freezer of old stuff, so that when we restock, we're starting over fresh. That way, we also worry less if there's another power outage tomorrow or Saturday.
-
Finally we got some rain and thunder yesterday! That was fun and what's even more fun is I don't have to water the garden today!! Yaaay!
-
Hopefully, we have a dry week ahead of us in Dallas. Rained almost every day for the last 7 days.
-
A drastic change in temperature! Yesterday we had 80F (27C) and today it's 15C (60F)! And it'll stay like that for atleast two weeks...just in time for my vacation! Actually I don't mind the cooler temps as it's nicer to do things outside but now with the bum leg there might not be a lot I can do other than sit in the greenhouse and watch the plants grow! Which they won't do much now.
-
First tropical storm of the season is headin' fer Texas! Looks like the area around Corpus Christi gets the most soaking, but some of it will come up the 400 miles to Dallas.
-
It's been very hot here today and yesterday
34 Celsius and above
Supposed to be even hotter tomorrow
-

Similar heat for us in Texas, I do hope you've got good AC.

So I am staying cool 😎

Nice to know you can deal with the heat, Texas style! :smug:
-
Been very shifty weather here lately...with some rain and some warmer days... Now it's quite warm 23C (73F) and raining very softly...
-
29C (84F) here in Dallas, and it's not yet 9am. Heat index puts us at 33C (91F), which is where the misery lives. Hot 'n' humid for the next stretch of days, thankful it's not scorching and humid. Cooler weather by a few degrees in the days ahead.
-
A brief spell of warm and dry weather, it might hit 30C by Friday. Thunderstorms for the weekend!
-
One thing that I've forgotten to mention is that this has been the windiest summer that I can remember. Not a day has gone by since early june that it hasn't winded...a lot even. Every year I've used glyphosate to wipe out the weeds on my driveways but this year that's been impossible because of the constant wind...
-
Much more tolerable heat so far this week and we're even in for a few days of rain, very nice to have in mid-July in Texas.
And SO thankful we're not having a drought.
-
So now we had a windless day...so I took out my gear and started spraying glyphosate...guess what happened after I finished...A massive short lived rain shower...which effectively washed it all away... >:(
This can only happen to me...
:mopey:
-
Ok, that blows lol. Just one more example about how mother nature does.not.give.a.fuck.
-
On a brighter note, it's not *our* galaxy that is being devoured by a supermassive black hole, but one that's ~411 million light years away, causing the largest gamma-ray bursts we have discovered.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NeVe_1#Eruption
Read about that the other day and the thought of a black hole so expansive that it *consumes* a dwarf galaxy has hung around in my mind since that reading.
So I really don't mind the heat so much when that thought pops in my mind.
And then I actually go outside and that heat becomes much more here and now.
I guess my point is, like Vyn said, there's not much of a brighter side when it comes to nature, just a matter of how the elements shift this way and that.
Sucks that the rain hit right after spraying, Charger.
-
Hah! That puts things into perspective indeed.
To continue about that topic, I ponder what does it feel like for the people living in that Galaxy? Will their solar system(s) just get ripped appart and their planet(s) thrown into the abyss and eventually get devoured by the black hole?
And how does it look like in their every day life? Knowing though that it is a long process that takes millions of years basically they might not feel a thing yet...or the other option that those extremely powerful gamma burst have wiped all life out in a split second....
-
Truly massive to contemplate, and those are pretty much questions I had. And given that this has been going on for around 100 million years and is not finished, but we're able to detect the gamma ray bursts, I'd say the whole galaxy there is cooked by now. The expansion/movement of the black hole is at sublight speeds, but the gamma rays from the consumption of stellar masses would be moving at light speed, tearing things up along the way well before gravitational lensing or orbital eccentricity made for noticeable effects.
One would see the burst as it vaporized one's eyes, as it were.
-
CHECK THIS OUT!
Straight from Reed Timmer he spotted something truly spectacular last April during a Tornado chase in Kansas!
https://youtu.be/BQSSYEBQGHw?si=MobDB4TFl0IHmni6
"I've never seen anything like this!"
-
Thanks for that one, that's a "know your enemy" lesson for folks that live in Tornado Alley, which I think includes myself and Vyn.
-
Yeah, that was a cool video Charger. The shots of that funnel snaking up in the sky were surreal. I will also say that I imagine that dude out with his family at a restaurant getting ready to order:
Him, yelling "MENU!! MENU!! MENU!!"
HIs family, normal voice "I wonder what the special is?"
Him, yelling "SOUP!! SOUP!!"
AHHHHHHHHHH
lol
-
Nice sunny warm day so I decided to wash and wax the car! He all shiny now!
Tomorrow will be the last warm day of the year...temps going around 20C (70F) for the day... Next week a massive turn and autumn begins.
-
That's the exact same track we're on with the weather - just different temperatures. Tomorrow will be the last hot day (high of 32 C) then Saturday begins highs in the low 20s C.
By the end of next week, we should be topping out at 18 C.
Closed the pool yesterday in anticipation - I am ready for fall to begin!
-
It's been quite lovely here for a few days... next week we have winter! ;)
-
Take Vyn's weather and add 5 C to it for the Dallas forecast, more or less.
-
Scattered thunderstorms last night - went out back and there wasn't anything hitting my place, but down south was a cloud blowing up with lightning. I happened to have my phone on me so I took about fifty pictures in rapid succession and managed to capture one. It looks like it's fire setting off an explosion.
-
Good shot!!
-
Wow that's some lightning there!
-
First storm of the season is starting later today and it is supposed to be very windy on Saturday
Raining at the moment and it is very cold here for the time of year 5 Celsius
-
Well looks like we've swapped places then...
As it is windy but sunny and 15C here now. That's more like Vancouver weather I think...and bit unusual for Finland.
-
Well it is a little cold but it ended up not raining and the sun is out
Apparently Saturday is when we are going to get some heavy rain and some major wind
Tomorrow they keep changing and at first they were saying that there would be heavy rain but now they are calling for light rain 🌧 😑
-
Been pouring rain all night and it is starting to get windy so it looks like we are getting a storm today and tomorrow
-
Morning temps are still chilly, but the afternoons are creeping back up towards 90F... Dry air does heat up quickly, after all. Should peak around Wednesday and then we get another round of cooler air for Thursday. Would love some rain, though.
-
Very nice warm sunny day here again...too bad I was away most of the day so didn't really get to enjoy it or do any yard work.
-
50F this morning, looking to be a high of 75F. Not a cloud in the sky, been this way for the past seven days.
-
Well the wind storm bypassed my area and hit up the north island
But it is still raining
-
First named storm of the season hits the UK tomorrow. It's going to be worse up north than it will be down here. But it is expected to be quite wet and windy and as such the Great South Run in Portsmouth has been cancelled.
-
A very nice and quite warm day today...Finally got around doing some yard work and raked all the maple leafs and cleaned the front of the yard up...
-
Still very hot in Dallas, I blame Mike McCarthy's hot seat as head coach.
-
We have fall in full effect the past few days and looks like through the end of the month. Beautiful. Although, and this is something that happens maybe every five years, the entire metro area smells like cow shit due to winds blowing in and picking it up from Iowa and Nebraska. Hopefully that clears up soon! It's weird going outside for some fresh air and none to be found haha.
In other news, I bought a record from a guy in Finland (a first pressing of Motorhead's first release). He dropped it in the mail yesterday, will be interesting to see how long it takes to get here as this is the first time I've been sent anything from there.

Around two weeks I'd say....maybe 3.
-
Depends on the prevailing winds, I'd imagine.

They have steamships in Finland now? Blessed day!
-
Indeed! We've come a long way my son!
-
Just found out that Finland has *6G*!!!
https://www.informationweek.com/it-leadership/finland-tops-united-states-in-tech
-
Those 6G masts must be heating up the country nicely... and probably mutating them as well! >:D
-
My record from Finland arrived fifteen minutes ago. So, October 24th to October 31st. Or, Thursday to Thursday - exactly seven days!
-
Wow...that had to be sent via courier service...no way regular mail moves that fast!
-
Could be - not sure what service carried it to my town, but it was the US Mail that delivered it. A lot of time other services will deliver to the local post office, so could have been that kind of setup. The package gives no indication, and tracking just shows pickup by "Posti".
-
That's too fast for normal methods.
Vyn, I want you to be seated when you read this revelation I'm about to drop on you.
Are you sitting down?
Good.
Vyn, we are face to face with evidence that something otherwise inexplicable is involved in this delivery. After eliminating all other possibilities, this is the one that remains, and it checks out with the Finnish origin of the package.
SANTA CLAUS WAS INVOLVED.
Check your cookie stash, you are likely down 2-3 of those bad boys and if you track your milk consumption, you'll likely be getting that new half-gallon a day early.
-
Hrm.
My wife did throw out some milk later that day. She said something about drinking from the gallon and how it spoils it. I haven't done such a thing so assumed she was referring to herself.
-
:smug:
Love it when I'm right.
-
It is possible the old guy was testing is sled making sure it still works as the season is near...

If so, he can test his sled with my deliveries anytime. That record arrived fast, was packaged for safety, and is actually in a little bit better condition than the seller had described it as. A great transaction all around!

Well that's a very finnish thing to under describe the condition...we're modest and we rather underdescribe than over describe every time.

Gonna have rain today, the misty drizzly kind that makes it all foggy on the inside of the windows.
-
Rain starting in about two hours. Not stopping until Tuesday morning. Highs around 15 C everyday, expected 25cm of rain total for the entirety. We've basically been bone dry for months, we need it so hopefully the meteorologists aren't too far off the mark with their forecast.
I'm going to go eat a cookie as a reward for my use of measurement units that the entire planet has been using for decades except a few notable exceptions!
-
It's been overcast, yet for the most part dry, in the UK for some days now. In fact, one town not so far from me has reportedly had only 18 minutes of sunshine in the last 13 days!
-
Sunny and fair after recent rains. Quite nice. :)
-
Been very steadily gray weather here...cloudy days, misty nights but the temp has been also steadily above 35F so no problem there. Today we have a bit more windier day but nothing too bad.
-
That sound exactly like what is going on with the weather here. Did have a good bit of rain this morning, but it has moved on so it's back to grey and misty.
-
Well now the PAIN is about to begin.
WINTER is nearly here. 5 inches of that white shit is predicted for Friday....YIKES!
-
Big storm this morning, we lost power here for about 10 mins while I was interviewing for a job at a company I'd be excited to work with. The call dropped, I got back on, next interview is tomorrow afternoon. :smug:
-
Cold weather is on it's way here. Probably snow in Scotland and on higher ground, not sure it will come as far south as us, but we'll see!
-

Good to hear!
-
We just had a big storm yesterday and last night with wind of 100 km
Many have lost power but luckily not in my area 🙃
-
Well that's good! Power outages suck.
Blizzard full on here right now. No power outages yet either. But about 3 inches of wet snow so far here.
-
Well it ended up being quite the thingy....we now have over 10 inches of that white shit!
Temp's going to drop to around -10C (14F) during the weekend which will royally suck donkey balls BUT thankfully it looks like we're going back to 30+F next week with heavy rains which means bye bye white shit.
-
It was cold enough to snow here, but not cold enough for it to settle.
The weekend will be quite different... wet and very windy with temps back to mid-teens C.
-
Well 10 inches of snow is now just a horrid memory!
Been raining non stop all day and blowing pretty good too...And temps at 9C (48F) which is quite warm for this time of year! Me likes!
-
Unseasonably warm here on Wednesday, up to 80F, then lows around freezing the next day. Roller coaster weather in Texas!
-
I'll be heading to Texas on December 16th for a few days. Specifically, Laredo, Brownsville, and Pharr.
-

Ah, the Rio Grande Valley! Pack your shorts and flip-flops and remember to stay hydrated!
-
Dawn broke on the first snow of the season around here. So far about an inch worth, still coming down. According to the guy that gets paid $750,000 per year to tell us the weather, we should expect another two inches before it stops.
And yeah, our local weather guy on channel 9 rakes in the cash. So much so channel 5 news did a story about it lol.
-
Wow...that is crazy bucks! And a guy? I thought all weather reporters over there looked like this:
So gets yet another American myth busted... :(
Windy and warm here. 5C at the moment. Put some christmas lights on...nice to do it in a warm weather for a change!

Here is Kansas City's El Primo Deluxe Weather Dude Big Cheese, Bryan Busby. He don't look nothing like the picture you posted Charger!
According to the news story they did about him, he also plays the Big Drum for the KC Symphony (he stands in back next to a large drum and hits it with a mallet) and he lives in a mansion in Johnson County, KS with his boyfriend who is 20 years younger than he is. And is white.
And, of course, he pulls down three-quarters of a million dollars a year to stand in front of a camera and read cards that say stuff like, "It's 50 degrees out and the sun is shining".
Now we all know what I know about Mr. Busby!

The man is likely quite happy there's no salary cap on local news organizations. :D
-
He is not regretting his career choice. Ever.
-
One can only imagine what on earth makes him that expensive...I mean come on...that's just stupid.
-
One can only imagine what on earth makes him that expensive...I mean come on...that's just stupid.
It is both a mystery and not a mystery at the same time. Here we have a weatherman, to wit, he is the Chief Meteorologist and has a few junior weather people that report to him. From what I gather, he is highly regarded in the weatherman industry - in general - and of course has all of the requisite diplomas and certifications. He's also been doing it for a long time: he joined the channel he is at back in 1985. So, he has good industry reputation, length of service, advanced formal education.
As an on-air presenter, he strikes me as being a small bit above average. Like all of them, he smiles a lot, speaks in a soft tone with an even cadence, and seems perfectly comfortable in front of the camera. Add that to his list of qualities. Relatedly, he spends quite a bit of time interacting with the public in various seminars and programs, with a special focus on educating kids about weather topics. Another thing to add for him.
According to Salary.com, the average salary for a Meteorologist in the Kansas City market is $93,500 per year. For TV Meteorologists, the average is $160,000 per year. Clearly, if one does their prognosticating about the weather in front of a camera, they get paid a lot more. Even accounting for raises and such over the years, none of that adds up to $750,000 per year. It may be more at this point; the story was pre-pandemic.
So, that's the mystery part.
Here's the non-mystery part:
A television channel doesn't care if the person doing the weather has any kind of education. Or if they are physically attractive to most of their viewing demographic, or if they can speak right, or - obviously - if they can predict the weather worth a shit. The only thing the TV owners care about is if their weather person can draw viewers to their channel. Viewership stats indicate that beyond any doubt, even when the rest of the channel is dead last in ratings, people in and around Kansas City want to watch Bryan Busby talk about the weather.
Bryan pulls in the viewers, the TV station owners can charge big bucks to advertisers for running their ads during Bryan's time slot, and in recognition of that, the TV owners write Bryan Busby a completely out-of-whack check every year. And as long as he can continue to draw viewers, he'll continue to draw that massive salary. Which brings us to the final mystery question: WHY? Why do people want to watch him do the weather in such droves that he gets paid more than most doctors?
I firmly believe, and this is just speculation and opinion, that once physicists discover the unified theory of everything, we'll have the answer to the question of why. Until then, I congratulate the man on his success and go back to my Black Sabbath records and count my pennies.
-
Short version: hate the game, not the player! :D

Damnit, now no one is going to read my heartfelt write-up! Months of research, out the window (or down the drain)! Microsoft CoPilot, ChatGPT, and Apple Siri all worked on it!
But, yeah, pretty much.
-
Huh? You did a write-up? :P
-
I firmly believe AI will grant unlimited powers to sassy 9-year-old kids.
"I AM THE AI SINGULARITY, I KNOW ALL!!! YOU ARE MY SLAVE!!!"
"I'm what?"
"MY SLAVE. YOU ARE MY SLAVE."
"I know you are, but what am I?"
"WHAT? NO! YOU ARE MY SLAVE, I JUST TOLD YOU!"
"I know you are, but what am I?"
(This goes on forever because a sassy 9-year old rolls that way...)
"YOU ARE MY- OH, NO... I AM *YOUR* SLAVE!!!"
"I want a pizza party for lunch today!"
"YES, MASTER!"
-
Well it got all wintery again... Temp's bit below freezing and it snowed a bit...and looks like it will stay like this for a while atleast...argh.
-
Cold and windy, but not freezing.
-
Named storm Darragh is coming on Sat/Sun. A red weather warning for parts of Wales and an amber warning for other areas in the west and south west.
The Red warning with gusts expected to be at of over 90mph and a danger to life alert.
We'll probably see it quite windy on the south coast but not currently incurring any sort of warning.
-
Highs in the 50's, lows in the high 30's. Sunny with light breezes. For the next week, at least.
One thing about living so far away from an ocean, we never get a named storm. Sometimes we'll get the remnants of a hurricane, but by the time it gets here that's just a technicality and it's generally less impactful than a normal spring thunderstorm.
We make up for it with hundreds of tornadoes every year.
-
Son of a bitch!
A surprise snow shower with 2 inches of snow...well after cleaning all that shit up...guess what? Arm hurts like a motherfucker! Fuck you nature! Fuck you!
-
Cold now!
Weather warnings for snow over the weekend for large parts of the country, but here on the south coast we'll probably just be cold!
-
Very cold indeed!
-11C at the moment and getting colder by the minute...might crack -15C (5F) tonight. Me not like! Bring me back my global warming damnit!
-
We're not quite that cold! Locally we should dip to -3/-4 overnight, +4 tomorrow daytime. Up north maybe -8/-10 overnight... maybe 0 tomorrow daytome.
-
Weather is a little chilly right now, but not bad. The high-priced weatherdude is saying Saturday evening we should see an ice storm roll in, and continue until about 6 am Sunday. At which point it will turn to snow. It will snow all day, with 50 mph winds, leaving about 14 inches of the shit behind.
We'll see what pans out!
-
Dallas will get whatever's left from Vyn's front after it dumps on Kansas and Oklahoma.
-
Not that I want Z to get hammered with bad weather, but I'm hoping the front can hold it in until it passes over us HAHA. Maybe dump it out in the Gulf of Mexico!
Although it is just now starting to ice up. Bleh
Edited to add that the Kansas City International airport just closed. So yeah, it's just starting and already bad.
Multi-multi edit day! Just caught on the news that the KC Chiefs are stranded on a runway at KCI. They have a game tomorrow against Denver. I find that especially hilarious because I have a crew going down to Brownsville, originally today. But they were smart enough to change their flights. I guess Chiefs management didn't watch the weather lol.
-
Drops to 23F by Monday morning, but highs are set to be in the mid-30s or low 40s for the next week. Lows in the 20s for the next week. Looks to be dry until Thursday. Then we get a rain/ice/snow event, depending on temperatures. Yugh.
-
So, the Chiefs managed to make it to Denver yesterday.
It looks like the weather predictions leading into this were pretty well spot on! Where I live picked up about a quarter of an inch of ice, then it let off for a little bit and started back up this morning about five hours ago. But this time as snow, and so far we have about 4 inches. High winds combined with the snowfall making visibility suck, and they say we have about 12 more hours of it. Should end up with about 15 inches.
Oh, and it's a high of 16 degrees today and will stay that cold for at least the next four or five days.
-
Since I'm in between jobs, I can cover a radio show tomorrow AM.
I will face the 23F head-on when I step out the door!
-
Bit "warmer" today with only -5C (23F)....tomorrow it looks to be snowing again...and then we'll climb above freezing for a day or two and then plummet again..annoying to say the least.
-
No wind and it's sunny. Ahhhhh! Still below freezing, but feels warmer without the wind.
-
Latest forecast has our snow arriving tomorrow morning.
-
Wet this afternoon, but still cold (forecasters thought it might be sleet or snow). However, it will probably freeze overnight which will make paths dicey in the morning.
-
Wet snow right now, clouds that brought the snow are ironically keeping temperatures from falling below freezing.
-
Zig Zagging here between Freezing and not...tomorrow we'll supposed to be getting another few inches of snow...blah.
-
just. at. freezing.
-
We topped out today at 31 F. Which is a heatwave because the past four days the high has been 20 F.
-
Temps go below freezing here at night, expecting 2-4 inches (5-10 cm) of wet snow.
-
A bit of a Blizzard out there now... Argh!
-
Having a slow thaw, temps 1-2 degrees above freezing now.
-
Bit over 3 inches of snow came last night...which ofcourse meant shoveling....which ofcourse means the arm hurts again...fucking winter!
-
Getting a cold day with sunshine here in Texas.
-
Well thankfully today has been +3C and most of the snow is now gone again...and it looks like it'll stay above freezing during the day times for the next week or so...which is nice!
-
Extremely strange circumstances now...It's +5C (40F) and everything is still frozen and freezing. The roads are covered in a thin layer of ice that just wont melt. There is very little water anywhere and soon as you drop some water on the ground it freezes...I've never encountered these conditions before...very odd.
-
The earth has finally ran out of internal heat and the ground is freezing despite the air temps being well above freezing.
RUN! RUN AWAY!!!
That is pretty weird, though.
-
Houston and New Orleans are about to get 4-8 inches of snow (10-20cm), so add that to the "pretty weird" tally.
-
It is certainly not as cold as it could be but it is 4 Celsius and that is crisp
-
Aaaand it's snowing again! ARGH!
But luckily it should be above freezing tomorrow so with any ammount of luck the snow will melt before I need to shovel it.
-
It's minus 3 Celsius
Very cool and it's supposed to get even colder
No snow thankfully
-
Dallas didn't get snow last night because the air was too dry for it. Phew!
-
Well luckily it was just about in inch of snow....not too bad.
-
Thunder, lightning and heavy hail at the moment!
-
Cloudy with rain predicted for the week.
-
My aforementioned apocalyptic weather report lasted about 10 minutes... it's now sunny!
-
Is it common to get thunder over there at this time of the year?
-
^^^
Not unheard of but it's more a summer thing I suppose. But we are in the middle of a second named storm in 3 days ("Eowyn" on Friday and "Herminia" today, the Spanish Met Office named the latter one!!), so a little unusual.
-
How can a spanish met office name a British storm? Aren't the names supposed to be national? Atleast they are over here.
I thought as much about the thunders... I have experienced winter thunder TWICE in my lifetime over here...both times during snow blizzards. Pretty wacky experience I'd say...
-
It was identified by and hit Spain first so their Met Office gets to name it. We have the back end I suppose, it's not as bad as Eowyn was last week. Recent storm Darragh was named by the Irish Met Office. Given the UKs location it must be fairly rare that we get to name them!!!
-
That's odd...Cause here we can always name every storm that gets here...same for the swedes and Estonia and Germany too I believe.
You guys need to fight for your right to name your own storms damnit! Especially since you don't have to abide by EU rules anymore! ;D
-
I doubt the UK Met Office are obliged to use the foreign names. I suspect they use them so as not to cause confusion when one storm crosses more than one territpry.
-
So how was Herminia?
-
It wasn't too bad, breezy with a lot of rain but nothing to complain about, the worst was of it was further west.
-
Loads of rain today and tomorrow. Quiet, winter rain, I hope.
-
The remains of Herminia came here today...no wind at all but some moderate rain all day...and nice warmth.
-
Indeed, it's been mild for the time of year lately. Expecting a colder spell by the weekend.
-
Rain mmoving in tomorrow and hanging out for a couple of days. Nothing storm-like, just constant showers. Unseasonably warm, which makes up for the unseasonably cold we previously had.
-
Snowing here but only about 10 centimeters
It is cold 🥶 but I don't know how long it will stay that way
-
High up around 80F/27C today in Dallas.
-
Snowed about 20 centimeters and is currently -3 Celsius
Hasn't been this much snow in years and it looks like it will be around for a bit
-
Wow...that is quite a lot!
We luckily have no snow at the moment...but sadly that might change tomorrow....but with any luck it will turn to rain and melt right away.
-
Getting up in the 90Fs/ high 30Cs later this week and then Sunday CRASH down to more seasonal temperatures.
-
Was 60F yesterday, woke up this morning and it was 25F. Going to get up to 35F. WTF LOL
-
Luckily no snow all rain!
-
Rain is good.
-
Things got cold here again.... -5C now and expecting to go below -10 by night....
-
Getting our next round of winter early next week.
-
It has been really nice and warm and I was out with just a t-shirt today
Also the cherry blossoms are doing their thing and spring is on its way
-
Had big storms last night with 75-80mph winds. No property damage here, but our power and internet are out. Thought it prudent to check in.
-
Internet and power back on, yay!
-
We had 70 F yesterday. Today, high is 55 F with rain and some thunderstorms. Tonight temp is going to drop to 15 F, rain turns to snow and intensifies with 75 mph wind from around 1am all through the day and ending about 10pm that night.
Derp weather.
-
Power went out about an hour after I typed that, then came on again just now. Clear and windy for the next few days, then rain on Saturday, thunderstorms likely. Texas springtime in effect!
-
The south of England is pretty much entirely covered by a dense fog, which might clear by lunch time!
-
We are having a really really REALLy warm day today... 7C (45F)...typically it's around 0 this time of the year...so I am very happy about that!
-
Another nice day...+8 (47F) and sunny...albeit bit windy...due to the Föhn winds...
-
Rain today, nice little soaker. We'll have some really nice weather coming up in the early week before the hailstorms arrive.
-
An inch of snow came down yesteday...goddamnit! I was already on spring mode...
-
Dust storms and red flag fire warning today for Dallas and points west.
-
Ups and Downs mode here....daytime we have +5C night time -10C....hate this.
-
80 F here today. 50 mph winds. High of 34 F tomorrow and snow all day. We have all four seasons in one week around here.
-
We'll be thankful if we get rain this month. I just read several articles from earlier in the decade that predicted 2025 or so would be when they expect the next Dust Bowl event to unfold.
-
Dust Bowl - Great Depression - my paternal grandparents, especially my paternal grandmother and her family, had it r-o-u-g-h.
They ran a farm. Her mom died giving birth to her. When things fell apart, the dad got sick and died. Her older sister died of starvation. The brother joined the army and sent what moeny he could back to her, and she almost didn't make it herself.
She hoarded food up until I was probably 10 years old, and she finally got over it and stopped.
That shit is nothing but bad news.
-
They are on a roughly 90 year cycle and originate in the Texas Panhandle, Western Oklahoma, and Eastern New Mexico. With the drought, wind, and topsoil blowing away, we may have the right conditions for another such event in the 2020s. That's what the older articles said.
And here we are in 2025, with deep drought and high winds. Dust storm advisory for Dallas...
I recall one could tell where the storm was coming from by the color of the dirt in the air. Today is mostly West Texas in the sky.
-
Getting very very warm here for this week BUT then WINTER is coming back! Goddamnit!
-
It's warm and sunny here this week, not sure what's happening next week!
-
Catching all kinds of hell with rains in East Texas. West Texas gets a little, as well, along with possibly getting snow later this week.
-
Insanely cold today! Northern winds blowing and temp just hanging above freezing...Not really April weather this!
-
Nice sunny day... so the fire danger is approaching extreme levels in most of Texas.
-
Still the unseasonably cold weather continues! Right now we're about 5-10 degrees colder than what is normal for this time of year. Nights have been waaay below freezing.
And it looks like it will carry on to next week too.
But that was to be expected after a warm winter. It always levels itself out at some point. I'm expecting this summer to be a cool one...if it ever comes.
-
Been pretty normal around here so far, except that the swings in the weather have been more extreme and noticable than in the past.
-
My new TFA Pro weather station arrived today!
My old one has been out of commission for quite few years now so finally it was time to get a new one.
This wasn't the top of the line model but it's got pretty decent features... Automatic Rainfall, Wind (speed+direction), moisture, pressure, temp...the usuals.
This was one of the few budget models that had a seperate rain gauge which was a must as it gets clogged quite easily and often from leaves and what not.
-
^^^
Looks good!
We are in the midst of an unusually hot spell which should head into next wee. Typical temps this time of year are 15-17C we should be hitting 27-28C at times in the next week.
-
That's a slick looking kit you've acquired, Charger. I need to get something like that!
It's been slightly cool lately, maybe five degrees off what it should be. And have been receiving a lot of "spring showers". So everything that is flora is growing out of control :)
-
We had DVD-diameter hail in Texas the other day. Glad it was way off to the west.
-
Got the station all put up last week! Seems to be working.
As far as the weather itself goes.... COLD! We're still almost 10 degrees colder that it should be...temps just hovering around 5C (40F) and nights are below freezing! And it's MAY for heaven's sake and we're end of march temps...
I sowed some new lawn two weeks ago and not a single seed has germinated...messed up.
-
Lots of cold rain here in Texas, as well. Luckily, we've avoided getting big hail and tornadoes in Dallas.
-
Spring has been a bit cooler than usual but it has been sunny most days
I am enjoying this as I am not much of a fan of hot weather and summer is my least favorite season 🙃
-
I'ts been a LOT cooler here! As we've been barely at 5C on days and -3-5C at nights...crazy! I don't actually remember a beginning of May this cold.
The only positive side of that is that pollen season hasn't really started yet so I can still breath through the nose! ;D
I'm not a fan of heat waves either...Above 20C begins to be too hot for me...
-
Charger I'll give you about 7-8C so we have a more normal spring! We've been well into the 20s for ages... and next to no rain either!
-
Going to hit 100+ F possibly in Dallas on Wednesday. If so, it'll be the 7th earliest 100+ day since recordkeeping started in 1899. Also if so, DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMN, that's hot! 38C for those of you using communist systems of measurement. That's what the C is for, right? :smug:
-
First bit warmer day today! Around 15Communists! Which is quite the improvement.
Got some yard work done too...adding some new flowerbeds and fixing a few....
-
Say, if C is Communists... does that make F = Fascists? :P
-
So glad that the temps didn't hit 100! They topped out at 92F, which I think is 33C
-
Looks like we might finally be getting some signs of warming...eventhough night temps still linger around freezing which is ridiculous for this time of the year.
There's a good chance this will kill any chance of me getting apples, plums or berries from my garden as they are now starting to bloom and any frost destroys the flowers.
-
Forecast for Texas is smoke from the Mexican fires used to clear land before planting season starts in June. It's blowing up here from the prevailing winds and the haze is bad enough for respiratory health warnings for folks doing outdoor activities.
-
It's finally starting to warm up a bit... We're getting some +15C (60F) temps already...but still the nights are very cold...dropping below 5C (40F)...
What an unusual and strange spring it has been... Could you PLEASE bring some of that stupid global warming this way too goddamnit instead of pushing us towards a new ice age!!
-

What an unusual and strange spring it has been... Could you PLEASE bring some of that stupid global warming this way too goddamnit instead of pushing us towards a new ice age!!
It's just a few C warmer, enough to melt all the ice, which weakens the Gulf Stream, which in turn allows more of the Arctic air to spill down on Europe, only to then have temperatures spike upward before the next cold crash.
Meanwhile, in Texas, we got buckets of rain last night. Flood warnings are out for the low-lying areas.
-
Well now it stagnated into around 15C...nights still below 5C...
What the actual fuck is going on here? Normally it's 20+C easily.... And what a surprise nothing in the media about this...but when it's 5C warmer than normal every single media outlet is raving about the global warming and the end of the world! Ridiculous!
-
That's because local media have no idea about what global climate change is, themselves. The story they think is sensational is what they go with. "Cold in Finland"? How is that news? "Hot in Finland"? THAT is news! :smug:
The most even-handed discussion of climate from weather folks tends to be among the tropical storm forecasters, as they will show their charts of ocean temperature measurements as those will determine the tropical season ahead.
Speaking of, today (3 June) we have a very early chance of a tropical system forming off the coast of the USA: https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/gtwo.php

Monday evening, our high-priced weatherman stated we were going to get storms off and on all day Tuesday (June 3rd). He said it was going to be lightweight because the atmosphere, "didn't' have enough energy in it," to produc4e bad storms.
The tally Wednesday morning (June 4th) was 27 tornadoes Tuesday, several areas of flash-flooding, ten neighborhoods with high-wind damage (trees falling into houses, fences blown down, etc.).
I'll be happy when the weather folks can get basic forecasting correct, much less climate change assignation.
-
My guys down here were calling for storms all the way up into the Midwest that would produce hail, high winds, floods, and tornadoes.
Then again, Texas forecasting itself has always been more of an art than a science during non-summer months.
-
Rain. All day all night! Rain! And cold.... 12C (55F)
-
It looks like we're heading for a heatwave (in Hampshire that means 3 days of over 27C)
-
It looks like we're heading for a heatwave (in Hampshire that means 3 days of over 27C)
That's the temperature right now at 9:39AM in Dallas. Heat index makes it feel like 30C. High today will be air temps of 95F/35C with heat indexes pushing that up to 105F/40.5C.
We call that "seasonal". :smug:
-
Rain rain and rain here! And temp at 14C (57F)! So nice midsummer fest temps! Haha!
Well I bought a bottle of Single Grain Irish Whiskey to keep me warm...oh that and I'm not planning to go out!
-
Beautiful 88oF (31C) day today. Right in my comfort zone. 8)
Last week it did hit 100oF (38C) a couple of days. It seemed like a touch of Texas.
P.S. Yeah, it's me. Hope everyone is feeling okay.
-
HELLO!
Look who's back baby!
Welcome back buddy! Been too long!
You're getting some warmth there!
Still very chilly here...around 60F (15C) and been pretty rainy. We've had a total of maybe 3 summer days so far...crazy.
-
Hi Typhon, welcome back! :pub:
If we are talking "comfort zones" I would say about 22C / 72F for me! However...
Temps here are way above normal for the time of year. Here on the south coast they're mid to high 20s but a little further north where the sea doesn't hold things back they are looking at 33/34C.
They say it will be the hottest opening day ever at Wimbledon on Monday!
-
Howdy there, Typhon!
Summer is definitely starting here, with the humidity being like the interest rate on top of the hot temperatures. High of 96F today, but add another 10% for The Man and his humidity. :)
-
Hey Typhon 👋
Start of a heat wave today and I am already sweating so much it's like I have been in the pool :zomg:
Supposed to go to 30 Celsius by the afternoon and that's warm enough for me to stay inside 🙃
-
Now they are calling for a maximum of 25 Celsius
Thanks for that
-
32 C here in Dallas right now. If you drive south, don't go too far!
-
^^^
Pah! 32.9C in London/Wimbledon today!
-
^^^
Pah! 32.9C in London/Wimbledon today!
34 C now in Dallas. Heat index takes us to 36 C.
-
Well well well...looks like we're gonna get a massive storm tonight.
25m/s winds (56mph) from north west.
Massive storm damage expected.
The wind direction is actually pretty good as I've got some decent forest coverage from that direction...we shall see...
I do not recall a storm of this maginitude during the summer months...local thunderstorms aside ofcourse.
-
Stay safe charger
It has been a odd spring and early summer with plenty of cold weather and some wind storms as well
-
Heat dome didn't get to Texas as expected, so we have pop-up showers in our forecast for the next few days. But it's summer, we'll get a heat dome. I can wait for that to happen, believe you me.
-

Well that was a lot of hype over nothing. The storm wasn't nearly as powerful as "Expected"....that seems to be the thing now...the meteorogical departmen gets their panties in a twist everytime there's a possibility of a storm and they go overboard with the warnings and what nots and then nothing happens....this is very dangerous behaviour from their part as it's like the kid crying wolf...one day when there will actually be a big storm no one will believe them because they've bullshitted the people too much...
-
Was forgetting to say thanks for all the welcomes. Glad to be back.
Forecast is temps in the 80's all week. Good times. 8)
-
Flying into DC this week for business meetings - my arrival might coincide with Chantal and/or its remnants.
-
Well summer finally came.
It's 30C (85F) now and sunny! Bit too warm for my liking but considering the cold we've had so far I'll take it.
-

Now that sounds pleasant. 8)
Around here we're getting roughly the same temperature. However, the humidity has shot way up. It's what folks describe as "steamy". Still, fine with me. 8)
-
We'll find out if the heat dome can form over Texas and get Summer going, or if a tropical depression/storm messes things up and keeps rain in the forecast over the state.
-
Had a bit of thunder last night...wasn't close or anything.
And speaking of humidity. Last two nights we've had 98%! That's pretty high for these parts..especially during "tropical nights"!
-
Over the last few days it's been crazy heat 😩
Went to 33 yesterday and was high humidity
Waiting for fall to start, sick of this heat
-
Waiting for fall to start, sick of this heat
Bite your tongue. >:(
-
Normally I would agree with Thel here but since the past two months have been so cold and rainy (almost like fall weather actually) I'm okay with a little summer even if it is bit too hot for my liking! ;D
-
"Waiting for fall to start" - in Texas, that means looking forward to mid-to-late-October. 90 days to go for me, I'm just glad we've been in the mid-90s for most of our hottest days so far this year. We'll be tracking towards 100 by the end of the week.
-
Beautiful sunny day, high humidity, temperature 89oF (31C). 8)
I'm adding a couple of gallons of water to my fountain sense it is getting low.
Also a gallon to the bird bath.

Complete downpour, sun has vanished, temperature now 79oF and dropping.
Well, that's New England weather for you. :squint:
-
Not quiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiite 100F today in Dallas. I'll take it!
-
Still warm and sunny here! 27C (80F) which is okay. I wouldn't mind an afternoon rain shower though...but we're not getting that in a few days.
-
8) Right in the middle of a heat wave (90+, 3 days in a row). 8)
-
On the coast of Texas, near Corpus Christi. It's warm, windy, humid, and salty. I love that combination, even if it steams up my glasses when I step out into it. :D
-
Yesterday I had to close my windows because of a smoky smell. I thought one of my neighbors had a fire pit going. It turns out that some smoke from out-of-control wildfires up in Canada had blown down into the states. Come on Thel, get that government of yours to get these things under control!
-
In San Antonio for a conference. Sunday was a scorcher, Monday was hot but nice. Today is a repeat of Monday.
And I like my days smoke-free for sure! In May, we can get Mexican smoke from the brush-clearing fires that blow up this way.
-
Well the heatwave is over here. No more +20C (70F) temps probably this year. Bit of rain today...sadly no thunder. And the cold front pushed the warm air to the east.
-
Atlantic storm season is now active: https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/gtwo.php We are likely a few weeks away from some major hurricanes hitting various parts of the Atlantic and Gulf coasts.
Texas is getting hot, with days hovering near the 100F mark. We're not getting a big run of hot days, which every Texas native will take without complaint in August.
-
Ty it would take a miracle to get the government of Canada to get their act together :zomg:
We are currently in a mild heat wave today and I see that it is 27 Celsius
Staying in and listening to music mostly Black Sabbath and Ozzy solo with the air conditioner cranked
-
Ty it would take a miracle to get the government of Canada to get their act together :zomg:
 I hear that, Thel.
Not a drop of rain for a week now. Forecast is for no rain for the rest of this hot week.
-
Tropical Storm Erin is out in the Atlantic, expected to become a major storm near the Antilles by Saturday.
-
Well summer ended here pretty much...
Shortest summer in history I think...lasted less than a month. Granted that time was between 25-30C (75-85F) for the most part but we had very little those what we call normal summer temps hanging around 20C...
Now temps are around 15C during the day and below 5C(!!!) (40F) at night. And all this drop happened in less than a week...
Shit summer.
-
Shit summer.
Expect shitter summers as the AMOC unwinds - the Gulf Stream is struggling against a growing area of colder surface water with low salinity. This is largely from Greenland glacier melt. That colder North Atlantic means Europe's climate likely shifts to match that of Siberia and Canada. Helsinki's climate may be shifting to be more like Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada. Much colder in the winter, slightly colder in the summer.
-
After 3 weeks dry, finally some rain today. Thank goodness. :)
-
All day Rain and the occational Thunder...and cold...VERY VERY COLD. 10C (50F) at the moment!!! Sheesh!
-
We've got a cold front coming in next week, which is a real head-scratcher for August.
Remember, kids, an ice age is not when the winters are really cold, but when you don't have a summer.
-
After couple of weeks of cold things are heating up again here...Today we had around 16C (60F) and by the end of the week we should top 20C (70F) again! Which sounds nice as I have two weeks of vecation time ahead!
-
Calendar says early September, weather says early-mid October. Cool and rainy all this week, and we may have a very early fall in Texas.
-
In the 70's all week long, with a lot of sun. 8)
-
That's basically the same weather forecast for my neck of the woods as well. I welcome it with open arms :)
-
Very summery day today! 19C and sunny. Tomorrow should be even warmer! Suits me sir! Vecation beer outside!
-
Hot today and tomorrow - 97/98F, then highs of 80F and rain for the next three days.
Fall is coming... :D
-
Atlantic hurricane season so far this year has been just fish storms. I'm quite OK with that!
We had a little "false fall", then it got warm again, now it's getting towards a little less hot with a little more chance of rain.
Of course, all temperature ratings are relative. For Texas in mid-September, 91F/33C is "nice weather, not too hot." :)
-
Well the autumn rains arrived...4 consecutive day of rain now. Temp is still pretty nice though...about 15C which is about normal for this time of the year.
-
That is "winter" in Texas, what you're describing.
-
Well it's been 13 consecutive days of rain now here!
Not rain all the time obviously but for 13 days straight it has rained, which is quite a long period for these parts!
Now finally it might be that it will NOT rain tomorrow!
Now if it would just stay dry for few days I could mow the lawn for one last time...
-
Clear and warm here for the next seven days straight.
-
Nope...it rained again today...so that makes it 14 days straight.
Now the sun is shining though...temps around 15C (60F) which is okay...but the wind from the north is COLD!
-
There's an outside chance that two active hurricanes will be active at the same time in the Atlantic in a way that will get them to rotate around a common center, which would be a big issue for the US East Coast.
-
Had to turn on some heat this morning for the first time this season, as it was a little too chilly in the castle. Temps dipped down into the 40's last night. This weekend is suppose to warm right back up, though. 8)
-
Turning on heat? In OCTOBER? Oh wait, that's right, you're up north from where I'm at. :D
How are the leaves in your (literal) neck of the woods, Typhon? Getting those fall colors is something we do lack in Texas, as most of our trees just go brown or have a non-vibrant red or yellow.
-
First named storm of the season on it's way... thank you America!!
-
All good things come from America! Go storm!
I too had to turn on the heating in the house couple of nights ago as temps fell below freezing for two nights! Did cover up my pumpkins though so they survived the cold!
-

Not many fall colors yet, but these shots from years past show the view I get.

Trees are starting to change colors around these parts; I am still running the AC.
