Getting bit anxious now as a massive storm is predicted to hit tomorrow.

Winds up to 25m/s (56mph) in gusts even on land...that's rather huge in these parts of the world.

Severe storm damage is expected.

I love storms but I am little worried about some of the big trees surrounding my house...

Ones with shallow roots are most at risk. If you know the general direction the winds are blowing in, you can get an idea of what's most in danger of a falling tree on your property.

I remember seeing one of my trees uprooted by a storm back in 2014. It was about 35 feet tall, 10m I think, and took a whole day to clear out with my neighbors helping.

Yeah I bought my chainsaw 15 years before this storm so I'm good in that department!

The big thing is that the wind comes from a rare direction of straight north...the last time we had that was in 2011 around christmas and it did hell of a damage all around these parts. And that was winter so no leaves in trees...the risk now is even greater then...

I am bit concerned...yes I am.

Yes, those leaves are all going to catch the wind. Maybe if you could a little preventative pruning, it might make a difference.

Warmest Christmas in many years, 61^oF (16^oC) right now.  Good thing too, as there is a heavy rain storm today.  Freezing temperatures would have made this a blizzard.

Pretty average christmas here...temp's just around 0C (32F)...a bit of snow landed..barely visible ammount but it made the ground bit grey in places...It'll drop down to around -5C tonight which is cold enough for me.

I remember in the mid 90s there was a christmas with temps around -25C (-13F) and that was bloody freezing...don't miss that at all.

Got a bit of a windy day today. Temp thankfully came up a bit and we're two degrees above freezing which is nice...but the windchill is brutal though. So no out door activities for me today.

I'm not sure if that same storm is what's blowing here now..maybe it is. Seems to be a fast moving one so it is possible and based on the weather satellite data it probably is.
