Today and tomorrow are killer heat days over 40C... and then the big front moves in and we have a week of much cooler temperatures and lots of soaking rain - I do hope that scenario pans out!

Last warm day of the year... Temp was above 20C (70F) which is not too common for this time of the year...but tomorrow comes a big rain front and that'll turn things around with a cold northenly blow and we'll be dropping below 15C (60F) and then welcome autumn.

We've gone from over 100F to highs in the mid-upper 80s F, a nice 10-degree C swing. Best of all, the overnight lows are low enough for the AC to not have to run all night, so we can start seeing lower electric bills.

I'm also getting my solar panels installed today - good, quality outfit with strong references and a local presence. They will cover about 70-85% of my total electric bill for the year, looking forward to that kicking in.

What did they cost installed? Have you calculated how long it'll take for them to pay themselves back?

We have some major federal and state incentives, so that knocked about a third off the total price. 10 years and they'll have paid for themselves, should the electricity rate not go up in that time. Rates go up, payoff happens sooner.

Well 10 years is good. Helps to have those incentives...here it's closer to 15 years...although with electricity prices doubling over the past year has shortened it a bit but it is still bit too much...especially considering most of the systems might break in 10 years...


Rainy day today...but there was just enough dry for me to break out the chainsaw again and finish cutting the trees in the forest...and didn't even bust my back this time! Yaaay!

We have quite a lot of sunshine here in Texas, so it's a prime area for generating solar power.

Now this is pretty crazy!

It's past midnight here and temp is still above 19C (66F) and it's late September! We didn't have a single night this warm in June OR July!!! Crazy! I can't remember ever having a night this warm this late before! Really warm wind coming from the south...preceding a rain front. Forecast doesn't promise thunder though...I guess it is bit too late in the year for that...

As we turn to October the rather warm weather is going to pass for good now as temps are going to drop to around 10C (50F) and nights are going to get even colder...no below freezing yet though thankfully. But it is a dramatic sudden drop non the less....Also the occational rains and storms will return... Autumn is finally here.

Well we had our first below freezing night last night and naturally it ended up freezing few of my plants...it was a bit of a surprise freeze...just hoping it didn't kill them off...

Day temp has firmly dropped below 10C (50F) now as well....

My wife and I were in London last 2 weeks and there were days there that it was hotter than back in Dallas. Not too hot for walking, thank goodness, though some days it threatened those kinds of highs.
