One of the best of the Trek films and still stands up today. As way to tell the story of the fall of the Soviet Union this is the most intellectual of the original series films and at the time the most poignant. 9/10

I went to see Black Widow this morning. An MCU film set between the events of Captain Americ: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War. Starring Scarlett Johansson, Florence Pugh, David Harbour, Rachel Weiss and Ray Winstone.

Natasha Romanov (Black Widow) gets dragged into the lives of people she thought she had left behind when she became an Avenger. She must help rest the demons of her past with her step sister (Pugh), step parents (Harbour and Weiss) as they battle the organisation which makes the "Widows" run by the super villain Dreykov (Winstone).

As you would expect from a Marvel film there is a lot of action / set peices, explosions and fights. There also some talky sections here too. Everyone does a good job, Johansson in probably her last outing as Black Widow (Spoiler she's since died! ;) ) is very good, but Pugh does a great job, which means she will come back in future MCU projects including the Hawkeye TV series. The one duff point is Winstone who doesn't make a good Russian villain... good villain, yes, but the accent is appalling! It's not up there with the best of the MCU films, I've ranked it number 11/24. 8/10

I always hear how great this movie is supposed to be, but on my first viewing I found the film to be boring and far too long.
Now the acting is quite good and the visuals of the movie are strong. It is just not the masterpiece that I was lead to believe it is. 6.5/10

Completely agree. Not a bad film, with some good set-pieces and the acting is great, but it's too slow and overly long. I had the same problem with Part II, and Part III I just don't remember at all. 6.5/10 is about right.

^^^ It was so slow paced that I almost nodded off a few times. I have yet to see part 2 but I did see part 3 as a teen in the nineties and absolutely hated it. Part one only seemed to get going in the last 20 minutes of the film and I was thinking that maybe this will get better, but then the movie ended.

Thank you guys.

Somehow a comment I typed for this thread vanished. I'm also not a fan of Godfather's plodding parts at the start. 30 minutes for a stoopid wedding? Fuggeddaboudit.

But I love Bollywood's adaptation of Godfather - Sarkar. Read the subtitles, it's a much tighter movie with some powerhouse actors. Amitabh Bachchan delivers one of his finest performances in the lead role. Totally kickass.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U4S1emNNeGY and English subtitles are available. Well worth the HD rental fee.

This is one of my top 10 films, no question about it.

I thought that this sequel was quite superior to the original Godfather. Yet stiil it was very slow and tedious with some major sleep inducing scenes. As in the first film the acting is very good with Pacino delivering a truly amazing performance as the Godfather. It should have been at least 45 minutes shorter and would have been well served to up the violence and action. 7/10

That's slowness is a thing in a number of 1970s movies. Drives me up the wall. I once wanted to see Rollerball, but was too cheap to pay a rental fee, so I watched a sped-up bootleg version on YouTube. It worked out fine and I can't imagine enduring it at normal speed.

***

Watched The Hudsucker Proxy most recently, I have always enjoyed the stylization in the film, even if it does overpower the substance.

Wow! I don’t think I can take some of you guys serious ever again when it comes movie opinions.

I can't speak for others, but if I was watching the Godfather films "in the 70s" I might have appreciated them a lot more. They were huge box office hits at the time, indeed The Godfather was the highest grossing film of the year at the US Box Office. Tastes change though and if the film came out now it would probably garner the same plaudits from the critics and fans but it probably wouldn't make the top 20 grossing films of the year... because the audience now doesn't have the attention span for long, slow films... and I'm probably one of them. Yes I appreciated the acting and the story was compelling but it was just so slow... and long!!

The only films I really like from the 70s are comedy's and action films... :)
