I watched Mulholland Drive on rental this week. It's a David lynch film... need I say more! Starring Naomi Watts, Laura Harring and Justin Theroux. It's a thriller set around the Hollywood film industry. A woman (Harring) is involved in a car accident which has left her with amnesia and finds herself in the home of an aspiring actress (Watts), who tries to work out what has happened to her. Meanwhile, Theroux is a director who's losing control of his work and private life... and their lives eventually collide...

... as far as I can gather. It's a Lynch film so it doesn't completely make sense, I sorta lost interest halfway through (it only really picked again during the lesbian sex scenes!). It started ok though, there was some mystery, some strangeness which you expect with a Lynch film, but it starts to plod after a while.

It felt quite dated if I'm honest, not like a 21st century film at all, more like something made in the 1980s. It's no Twin Peaks or Blue Velvet that's for sure. 6/10

Yeah... but I'd still drive an RV over a bunch of singing nuns to watch his next project... which could well involve the afformentioned scenario!

Watched Dazed & Confused last night. It's a coming of age movie about growing up in a time when marijuana was illegal. :smug:

I watched Hysteria (2011) on rental over the weekend. It's a period comedy/drama about the invention of the Vibrator. It stars Hugh Dancy, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Felicity Jones, Jonathan Pryce and Rupert Everet.

Hugh Dancy is a young Victorian doctor who struggles to get new medical ideas accepted in the hospitals where he works. He eventually finds work with Pryce's doctor who assists woman suffering from "hysteria" and easing their "problems" with pelvic massages! His daughters (Jones and Gyllenhaal) have different views on life, Jones is learning the piano and practices phrenology while Gyllenhaal is struggling to fund a refuge for the sick and underprivileged which her family don;t really approve of. Everett is a friend of Dancy and plays an idle toff who dabbles in electrical innovations. One of his inventions inspires the young doctor to invent the vibrator to help the hysterical women.

It's a light hearted film rather than funny film, and much of the story has recently been debunked, but it's watchable. Much of the scenes with women having their hysteria quenched is done tastefully! 6.5/10

This one has a bad rep and I can see why in a few places. However it was still a somewhat enjoyable dumb blockbuster. 5.5/10

This movie however was an assault on the sensibilities of anyone unfortunate enough to be viewing it's 101 minutes of garbage. I know I lost some brain cells watching this turkey. 3/10

We had some fun watching Thunder Force. It's a goofy superhero movie, very much like Mystery Men. Good comic acting in it from Bateman and McCarthy.

This movie was quite good though I think it should have been a shorter film. Richard Burton and Clint Eastwood have great performances and the rest of the cast is more than capable of delivering fine performances as well. 8/10

My son got the family to watch the anime Demon Slayer. All through the movie, I kept reflecting on how Shinto is a belief system that allows pretty much anything to happen, and you don't waste time trying to figure it out.

Not a bad  movie and easy to immerse oneself into the story, it still had some problems. The end does not make a lot of sense to be honest but other than that it was quite enjoyable. 7/10

It was Mother's Day, so my wife had the pick and went with "Meet the Mitchells", an animated goofy family story. Very comic-book in its delivery, but also warm and funny at parts. It's mostly gags strung together and hung on an overall "family comes together" story. Nice popcorn movie.

I got to pick yesterday's movie and went with the 1959 comedy, "The Mouse That Roared".

If you haven't seen this movie, you need to see it. It is hilarious, totally G-rated, light-hearted, and good-natured. Well-paced jokes, properly executed plot, and it's a war movie, to boot!

Stars Peter Sellers, Peter Sellers, and Peter Sellers.

This was an intense affair of war and the human spirit, full of action and a gritty sense of realism. 7.5/10

... and meanwhile, I gave in to my inner child and watched the 1966 Batman movie.

POW! BIFF! SOCK! WHUMMP!

Good times. Cheesy times, but still good. Never can get enough of that shark attack at the start. :smug:
