Not unheard of but it's more a summer thing I suppose. But we are in the middle of a second named storm in 3 days ("Eowyn" on Friday and "Herminia" today, the Spanish Met Office named the latter one!!), so a little unusual.

How can a spanish met office name a British storm? Aren't the names supposed to be national? Atleast they are over here.

I thought as much about the thunders... I have experienced winter thunder TWICE in my lifetime over here...both times during snow blizzards. Pretty wacky experience I'd say...

It was identified by and hit Spain first so their Met Office gets to name it. We have the back end I suppose, it's not as bad as Eowyn was last week. Recent storm Darragh was named by the Irish Met Office. Given the UKs location it must be fairly rare that we get to name them!!!

That's odd...Cause here we can always name every storm that gets here...same for the swedes and Estonia and Germany too I believe.

You guys need to fight for your right to name your own storms damnit! Especially since you don't have to abide by EU rules anymore! ;D

I doubt the UK Met Office are obliged to use the foreign names. I suspect they use them so as not to cause confusion when one storm crosses more than one territpry.
