On April 30th, so a few days ago, Duane Eddy passed away at the age of 86. His signature twang turned him into a one-trick pony, but it was one heck of a "trick" that he used to great effect on many hit songs back in the day. Among a lot of things, he was the first guitarist to have a "signature" model made by a guitar company - Gretsch, I believe.

He's frequently requested on my oldies show. I saw there was a post here and thought, "I'll add Duane Eddy to the list today", but the work is done.

His sound put other people on the path of finding a sound, helped to get the pedal and effects industry going.  :pub:

Today we lost Bernard Hill, aged 79.

An actor best known as Captain Smith of the Titanic in Titanic and King Theoden in the last two Lord of the Rings films. His breakout role was in the 80s with the TV series Boys from the Black Stuff.

RIP Bernard

I only really knew of him as Theoden, and I thought he did a great job portraying the king as Tolkien had described him. RIP

Yes I too knew him as Theoden, would not have remembered him from Titanic...which I've only seen once and probably slept through more than 3/4 of it!

But he was wonderful as Theoden indeed. Loved his preformance. RIP good sir!

Very saddened to hear about the passing of the legendary actor DONALD SUTHERLAND at the age of 88!

Such a fantastic career and he was a great bad guy actor but played good guys well too!

Former Iron Maiden singer Paul DiAnno has died.

This seemed to have been rather unexpected and sudden as he was planning on doing one final tour next year.
