Travel brought me to two movies, both off of Amazon Prime Video.

First was "The Conclave", a dramatization of the conclave that elected Cardinal Piccolomini to become Pope Pius II. There is some liberty taken with the documentation of the events, but it makes for a good movie, so I don't complain. What I do complain about is the needless sexy times depicted in the film between Cardinal Borgia and his lover. That wasn't necessary to the plot and, frankly, makes for an unwanted distraction. Brian Blessed is awesome in this movie, enjoyed his performance greatly.

Next was "Battalion" from Mosfilm. It is a biopic of the 1st Petrograd Women's Battalion of Death, a unit of women created during WW1 to shame the male soldiers into fighting. Historically, they did not have the full impact intended, as the Russian state was crumbling away as they went to the front lines. The film has some excellent acting and trench warfare scenes. The actors playing the women do an excellent job of bringing home the reactions of new recruits to the violence of mechanized warfare, and I can't say they would be any different from any group of men meeting combat for the first time.

Enjoyed them both greatly, plan to watch more movies around the playoffs this weekend.

Entertaining depiction of the Texas congressman's covert dealings in Afghanistan, where his efforts to assist rebels in their war with the Soviets have some unforeseen and long-reaching effects. 7.5/10

After the space ship "Event Horizon" goes missing while circling Neptune, a crew is sent to try and figure out what happened.  Not a bad story, if you can overlook some of the really stupid things in the film, like half of the crew smoking cigarettes. ???  6/10

That's one of my all time favourite sci-fi horror movies!

What's so strange about smoking cigarettes? Nearly the entire Nostromo crew smoked too... ;) Gotta remember this too was done before this whole "no smoking in movies" thing started.

What!  The film was made in 1997.  Have you ever seen anyone light up on the space shuttle or the space station?

Oh come on...it's really not that big of a deal now is it? ;D Also I don't think you can really smoke in zero gravity...but all these ships have had artificial gravity.

My point is that there is no logical reason to show astronauts smoking.  It's stupid.

I also thought the movie was fairly good.  I just don't think the Marlboro Man should be an astronaut.  :P

Brand new attorney beats big insurance company.  A little bit contrived, but with some interesting characters.  6.5/10

I saw Last Tango in Paris on rental.... that's 2 hours of my life I won't get back. Not even a naked Maria Schnieder can save this nonsense! 3/10... 10/10 for Schnieder!

This was very good though some of the fight scenes had a fake feel to them, some just did not seem convincing. I still enjoyed it and it was a great time killer. 8/10
