I saw Last Tango in Paris on rental.... that's 2 hours of my life I won't get back. Not even a naked Maria Schnieder can save this nonsense! 3/10... 10/10 for Schnieder!
Agreed, this movie is boring to death.
RIP Maria Schneider. she once told the conditions of the shooting of the "famous" butter sequence of the kitchen: The scene is the result of a conspiracy between Brando and Bertolucci, without the actress has been warned. The filmmaker will later recognize that it was a form of rape.
This role will follow her as a curse all her life.
Nevertheless, she is excellent in "The Derobade", a very raw film in the world of prostitution. A real punch in the stomach.

^^^

See John Wick: Chapter 2 if you havn't already, I thought it was even better. The 3rd and final chapter is due for release later this year and I can't wait!

I actually bought John Wick 1 and 2 on Boxing Day at Walmart, I think I paid 12 or 13 bucks for the two of them. Going to watch the second film in the next few days. I am looking forward to three as well as it is a interesting character and I have always liked Keanu Reeves - maybe not the best of actors but I find him compelling in his action roles.

Based on the true story of a woman's search for her son, who was taken away from her decades ago after she became pregnant and was forced to live in a convent. 7/10

We saw Blockers on rental last night. A comedy with John Cena and Leslie Mann playing parents trying to stop their daughters from having sex on Prom Night. It didn't really work very well, there were a couple of amusing moments but too few to make this implausible story enjoyable. 5/10

On my flight back, I watched...

HAIDER - Bollywood version of Hamlet. Set in Kashmir, 1995, does an excellent job of adapting and the acting is spot-on. Plenty of twists unique to the Kashmir setting, and the ending is just brutal, like Shakespeare would have liked it. Great film, you can skip over the one song with high-pitched female falsetto if that's not your cuppa joe.

CITY 40 - Documentary about Russian secret cities, built during the Cold War for nuclear and weapons research... and still pretty much close off to the public. Fascinating stuff, and how the film got made is a bit of a mystery, as the makers refuse to reveal details so as to not endanger any of the city inhabitants that smuggled them and their cameras into the city...

I've seen a couple of films recently: Stan and Ollie and The Favourite

The thing about Stan and Ollie is that it isn't enough to look and sound like the characters you have to tell a good story too. In fact this film tells a pretty good story. It follows the duo on their last tour which took place in Britain and Ireland in 1953. It shows them down on their luck, performing to half full theatres and how interest in the tour grows and develops until they sell out 10 nights in London. Their wives make a double act all by themselves! The performances of Steve Coogen and John C Reilly are great and apparently they were the first choice of the writers. It does start a little slow, but some of their old sketches are very well recreated. 8/10

The Favourite is not a bad film but I don't get the hype about it. Yes the performances by the three leads are pretty good, but the film they are performing in could have been more interesting. The film is quirky, comedic in places, but the soundtrack can be really irritating at times. 6/10
