I only made it halfway through and then had to turn it off, just not my kind of movie. 3.5/10
I've always thought Tarantino is a bit off, if you know what I mean. ;)

Yeah Tarantino is a bit off, kind of a sick frame of mind. I did like some of his other movies but this one was just needlessly violent and twisted.

Tarantino has done some great movies in his time but Kill Bill most certainly ain't one of them...and Uma Thurman is :puke:

I saw The Meg yesterday, it's a fun movie but let us not compare it to the classic Jaws. Of course it has a ridiculous plot with loads of plot holes, but it is what it is and doesn't pretend to be a serious drama -- indeed it has it's fair share of one liners and humerous moments -- and it has Jason Statham in it. 7.5/10

I saw the original Death Wish on rental today. Hmmm, I'm not sure what to make of it. I've no problem with the story which is fine, but the film making is shoddy. I may be looking at it with modern eyes and expectations but some of the problems I had with the film were more to do with the dialogue, editing and make-up... it felt very amaturish. 6/10

Yeah the original Death Wish has not aged well, but I find DW 2 is a little better and then after that they all pretty much stink.
Have you seen the remake with Bruce Willis? I almost bought it at Walmart today, but it was a bit expensive so I will wait till it comes down some.

I remember it was pretty good when I saw it as a kid...Bronson was a real bad ass...But I saw it again on tv few years ago and I have to say it didn't look the same anymore at all...so I do agree 100% with you here...it hasn't aged well at all. Unlike it's counter parts like the Dirty Harry movies and such which are just as powerful now as they were back then.

I've heard good things about the new version...it's on my shopping list for sure. Willis is perfect for the role.

I have seen the Bruce Willis remake, and rented the original so that I could compare the two. The remake was alright, not particularly memorable, but perfectly adequate and Willis' emotionless acting style is perfect for the role. I may dig out Death Wish II then... and avoid 3, 4 & 5!

Love the first few Dirty Harry films (The Dead Pool was a little forgettable). Apparently Clint was offered the lead in Death Wish but turned it down.

I would have to disagree a bit with the these comments of the original Death Wish.  It should be remembered that the story is presented as being completely realistic.  In other words, this is what would actually happen were a serious vigilante take action in New York City.  No big time special effects, no computer graphics, no heroes making leaps and bounds defying the laws of physics.  And as for Bronson being a badass - NO.  He magnificently plays an ordinary working guy who endures a tragedy and decides to do something about it.  After his first killing, what does he do, celebrate?  No!  He rushes back to his apartment and vomits.  Just like an ordinary guy would do after such a nerve racking experience.  Vincent Gardenia is a gem as the police detective, and with the film finishing with a great ending it stays on my top 50 list as number 35.

^^^ That's fair enough Typhon, personally I didn't have a problem with the story or its realism, and glitzy special effects certainly wouldn't have been appropriate, I wouldn't criticise the acting either. It was just the poor dialogue they were given, and the editing jarred in places and generally it just had a feel of being put together in a rush. Sorry!

Death Wish is a classic there is no doubt about that, but there are far superior classics out there too from that same era and ones that have endured the test of time better...and frankly ones that have been done better too like Charlie said there is a certain amateurish feel to it...which I know might appeal to some but to me it lost a lot over the years.
