CELL

After a strange signal from people's cell phones turn them into blood thirsty fiends a small group of survivors is trying to safely travel across New England.

John Cusack and Samuel L Jackson lead the Stephen King adaptation by the man himself.

This takes a bit of a new twist on the zombie-theme and adds something of a supernatural element, although the source of the signal is never revealed or explained.

The movie relies heavily on it's two leads but Isabelle Fuhrman's character is the one that I took most notice of. There's a good mixture of action and suspense and many King's trademarks are present.
This does however share maybe bit too many similarites to The Stand, but that's not a deal breaker. The movie only runs about 95 minutes which on one side is good but it does mean that occationally the story moves along bit too fast.

A rather good King adaptation, which frankly though would have benefitted from bit more gore and from a better ending...this one fell bit flat to be honest.

Factotum (2005)

A wannabe writer (Matt Dillon) with a drinking problem, wanders around L.A.  He loses job after job and meets a few women (Lili Taylor, Marisa Tomei), also with drinking problems.

One might think a story like this wouldn't be very interesting, yet I couldn't stop watching.  Little bits of unintended humor, here and there, were a big help.  8/10

Operation Finale (2018)

In 1960, a team of Israeli secret agents is deployed to find Adolf Eichmann (Ben Kingsley), the infamous Nazi architect of the Holocaust, supposedly hidden in Argentina, and get him to Israel to be judged.

Good portrayal of this story.  8/10

POOR THINGS

A young woman is brought back to life by a scientist by using a childs brain and she begins a journey to learn new things mostly of sexual nature.

This is what could be considered as a tailor made Oscar movie. And it did win 4....which kind of proves why I think Oscars have gone totally off the rails.

The movie is nothing but a vessel for mediocre actress Emma Stone to go about and talk about how "brave" and "bold" her role is especially in this meetoo-era to go on and be nude for no real reason.

This was marketed as a dark comedy but honestly I've had more fun on the toilet trying to squeeze out a constipated turd!

The movie is not funny, it's not sexy and it's not edgy...it's just weird and well...BAD! Incredibly bad!

It's been quite a few years since I have had to stop watching a movie because it was so bad...well this one made me do it. After about 1h 40 minutes I just couldn't go on.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

I guess I have to give it one star...if for nothing else then Emma Stone's tits.

^^^

It's not going to appeal to everyone, it is an unconventional film... I loved it!

Desert Saints (2002)

A hit man (Kiefer Sutherland) picks up solitary women, uses them briefly for a job, then kills them.  For his next task he is in the Southwest, headed toward Mexico, when he picks up a woman (Melora Walters) who is leaving an abusive marriage.  But she may not be who she seems.

A good story with a few twists and turns that kept me guessing.  My only complaint is that there are a few flash-forward scenes that take away some of the guess work.  No point to doing that, in my opinion.  7/10

The Bride

Frankenstein's monster now known just as Frank (Christian Bale) visits a Chicago scientist (Annette Benning) in the 1930s expressing his loneliness and asking her to create him a mate. They find Ida a recently deceased murder victim (Jesse Buckley) and resurrect her. The pair then travel to various locations trying not to get noticed and a fractious relationship develops. They attract the attention of a pair of cops (Peter Sarsgard and Penelope Cruz) who try to track them down.

Oh for a coherent script... oh for it not to feel like Bonnie and Clyde for half the film... oh for the unnecessary feminist elements! There are some good things about this film; the acting is fine, the production design is pretty good, but overall it's a hot mess, but it's not that far removed from a good film. I believe the studio intervened, but I don't know if that made it better or worse! 5/10
