I always enjoyed the 5 Planet of the Apes movies.
The first one is a classic and a Top 50 favorite of mine.   :drama:

Planet of the Apes received an Oscar nomination for Best Costume Design.
I guess they didn't think it was silly.   :smug:

By today's standards, it is a bit lacking... but it's also a side consideration for the story, which was strong in the first film and not so much in the sequels.

I own the first five Planet of the Apes movies in a blu-ray box set
I enjoyed the first one but for the life of me I can't remember the second film and have not bothered with the others
I remember thinking that the costumes were very well done for the time.  They are a bit silly but certainly no worse than other sci-fi of this era
The story is written well in the original movie and truly enjoyable but as I said I found the second to be forgettable,  literally.

American Fiction (2023)

A novelist (Jeffrey Wright) fed up with the establishment profiting from Black entertainment uses a pen name to write a book intentionally loaded with black stereotypes.  Although he expects the book to be seen as trash, to his surprise and discuss, it is a huge success that propels him into the heart of hypocrisy and the madness he claims to disdain.

An excellent mix of drama and comedy.  This is a very clever film.  9/10

JURASSIC WORLD REBIRTH

A drug company executive wants to go to one of the old Jurassic World development islands to track down 3 different spiecies of Dinosaurs in order to find a cure for various Heart diseases and hires a mercenary and her team and a dinosaur expert for the trip. On the island they find out that they aren't up against just ordinary dinos.

The events take place about 5 years after Dominion and plot wise this one takes us back all the way to Jurassic Park 3.
Sadly there's just not a whole lot of originality in this one anymore. But there is still one incredible scene where the Titanosaurus' appear. That one is breath taking.

Scarlett Johansson still isn't a very believable action star and does not posess the charisma to carry the movie. Rupert Friend does a good job as the drug company guy and Jonathan Bailey is a bit like a young dr. Grant.

Some of the "new" dinos are really cool...like the flying Raptors! I mean come on!! Flying Raptors!! But the D-Rex just looks stupid.

I had higher hopes for this one as the previous 3 were brilliant...but this is by far the worst Jurassic movie of the lot...and sadly I have to say I think it's time to let the dinos rest...

The Cry of the Owl (2009)

Wanting to leave big city life, a man (Paddy Considine) moves to a small town in Pennsylvania. There he becomes fascinated with an attractive neighbor (Julia Stiles), watching her through the windows of her home.  One night she spots him, but rather than be upset, she invites him in for coffee.  An odd relationship ensues.

An interesting character steady from various angles, plus some twists and turns, makes this film very enjoyable.  9/10

The Little Hours (2017)

In this comedy set in the 14th century, a handsome servant, fleeing from his master, takes shelter in a nunnery where some young attractive nuns are trying find out what their purpose in life is.  A decent number of good laughs throughout the film.  8/10
