I'm a little shocked, England won 3-1 against the Matilda's. Secretly I felt England had been below par this tournament and getting to the Semis had been an achievement in itself!

I feel sorry for Australia, they worked their socks off and often looked dangerous in attack, but the Lionesses have been stoic in defence throughout the tournament.

Just hope they haven't peaked! Let's hope the Matilda's can snag the bronze medal.

I had no doubt England would be in the finals! They're bringing it home!


Tonight there's the super cup final with Man City vs Sevilla

On paper this should be a slam donk for City but they are missing quite a bit of their mid fielders and defenders so that might make a difference...might be a tight one.

On paper City should have walked it, but in the end they won 5-4 on penalties. They might not have given it their full attention though.

In hindsight it looked like that France game took its toll both physically and mentally on the Matilda’s. They looked worn out from the moment they stepped on the pitch. But full credit to them, they battled hard and threw everything at England, particularly in that 2nd half when they needed an equaliser but Englands experience was telling in the end as they pounced on Australia’s critical errors at the back and made them pay. Congrats to England

As good as Australia played in this tournament, I think it will be a stepping stone for bigger things to come. I suspect they'll be challenging for, and winning tournaments for the next few years.

Sad to see Australia didn't get the bronze...I think they deserved it more than Sweden...

The Aussies were emotionally drained after the France game and all the air came out of them after the England loss. It was all or nothing for them playing in a home World Cup

3rd/4th play-offs are always a nothing sort of game. As you say the Aussies had given it all in the earlier matches, and this result makes no difference, they played well and will build for the future.

So Spain are the World Champions in women’s football. Thought the final was a little lacklustre and England disappointing. They were brave in defeat but didn’t play anywhere near as good as they did against the Matilda’s. No doubt they will still be a force in Women’s football in the years to come.

It's funny because I didn't think England had played that well throughout the tournament except the games against Chine and the Matilda's, so I'm not so surprised they lost, Spain had a good tournament all round.

I missed the start, tuned in and Spain were 1 up and seemed to be all over England... I decided to watch something else!

That was practically Spains second team. About a year ago the women protested they wanted the coach sacked or they wouldn’t play. So the Spanish FA said no prob, if you don’t want to play under this coach you can sit out and we’ll replace you with others. And that’s exactly what they did

To be fair I'm a jinx when I watch stuff particularly penalty shoot outs! But I did keep an eye on the match and tuned in now and again... including just as Spain had the penalty!

Given the number of people watching the match, you have to balance your speculation of jinxiness against those actively practicing witchcraft and sorcery to defeat England. It could be that there are more warlocks and such-like in Spain that are actively influencing their women's soccer team, for reasons we do not yet know or understand.
