I saw that, the question is: Are the USA slipping back or are the rest of the world catching up? I suspect it's bit of both!

The rest of the world has definitely caught up and even gone past the USA now it seems.

Of all the remaining teams left, Japan is the only country that has previously won a World Cup, which tells you how just how much the other countries in women’s football have improved.

Going by the World Rankings there's still a lot of highly ranked teams left:

Sweden
England
France
Spain
Netherlands
Australia
Japan

are all in the top 11 world rankings, so should still provide a worthy winner.

So very happy to see the US out! Their pompous attitude has always been so unsportmanship it's not even funny.

Here's hoping for England to win the whole thing!

England vs Nigeria(0-0 HT)

Australia vs Denmark

Expecting England who are now the outright favourites to win this World Cup to beat a pesky Nigeria and fingers crossed Australia can get it done against the Danes. Its touch and go whether Sam Kerr plays for the Aussies tonight still recovering from a calf strain.

After today's game, and despite winning on penalties, I don't think England should be anyone's favourite for this tournament.

Yeah they were lucky to scrape through. A women down from the 87th minute all through extra time in which Nigeria dominated. I think they’re entitled to one off game, they’ve been really good otherwise and are in a good side of the draw. Fortunate to play Nigeria and then the winner out of Jamaica and Colombia.

Australia are currently leading 1-0 in the 50th minute against the Danes.

Yeah the Matilda’s. 2-0 winners over the Danes in what was a very professional performance. Even got some minutes into Sam Kerr late in the 2nd half when Australia was already 2-0 up.

Maybe they'd have a tad bit more energy to bring to the field if they stopped trying to be a vehicle for a social agenda. Just focus on playing ball.

Hah! Yeah...that commercial pretty much sums up everything that is to hate about that team...the sheer arrogance is unreal...

France made a mess of Morroco winning 4-0 and will meet Australia next in a QF while Colombia was able to break the Great Wall of Jamaica winning 1-0 and will come up against England next.

Japan vs Sweden and Netherlands vs Spain are the other QF matchups

France look a strong bet for the final.

Sad that France and England have to play against eachother this early...that would have been something of a final I think...although ofcourse it's bit different settings for women as it is for the men's teams...

No matter what KDC says I'm still rooting for England to go all the way!

I think you guys are underestimating Australia. They’ve been super without their best player and have gotten better with each match. France will be tough no doubt but they have the advantage of the home crowd and will have confidence in that they beat France in one of the lead up games to the World Cup. I’ll go out on a limb and tip an Australia vs Japan final

I don't know much anything about the Aussie team...honestly I kind of thought they'd be around the same level as the men's team but clearly that's not the case. Looks like they've played an excellent tournament so far. So yes I wouldn't be surprised at all if they'd find themselves in the finals.
