Truss resigned? Wow.

When I saw the news an hour before that, she was still in Number Ten, albeit with defecting ministers and public outcry for a general election. Rishi Sunak is the likely front-runner among the Tories for the next PM. If there's a general election, UK likely goes with a Labour government, so the Tories don't want that to happen, as they still have a majority in Parliament, even if their mandate is severely eroded by the political mis-steps of the Truss administration.

I think the Tory party think they're a Football team, changing their managers on a whim.

It's 5 PMs in the last 6 years (since Cameron resigned after losing the Brexit vote)... that's 30% of all the PMs since the end of WW II!

I think Sunak is favourite (if he puts his name forward) because it won't go to the Tory members this time. The membership would rather vote for a incompetent woman than a competent black man! It's rumoured that Johnson may stand which would put the cat among the pigeons!

Well that's a bit of a struggle isn't it...? You kind of have to vote for the woman because if you don't you're a misogynistic old white guy BUT if you don't vote for the non white you're a racist old white guy...so what can you do?

Damned if you do damned if you do....so I guess the only real option is to not vote at all?

As a non-Brit who gets his info served cold by "the media", it seems to me that flip-flopping on her big tax cut program did her in. And rightly so. Whether either course of action was the best thing for the economy, I have no idea, but I do know that there is no way she could have expected to retain any kind of respect as a leader after that showing of flimsy decision making.

Truss may have walked the plank, but she will go down in history as the PM with the shortest time served. So in that regard she is certainly noteworthy!

A couple of associates of mine landed in London a few hours ago. They'll be spending a few days there, then off to Germany, then Italy. All for business meetings w/clients.

One guy just sent me a Teams message indicating that as they were going to their hotel, they saw what appeared to be a nude Liz Truss running down the street being chased by a group of ten people in costumes.

Well, London certainly seems to have a bit of a carnival atmosphere.

Rishi Sunak is the new Prime Minister. In the end it was a walk over as the only opponent  (Penny Mordaunt) couldn't get enough support. Boris Johnson had enough support but withdrew yesterday... it really was too soon for him to make a comeback.

Meanwhile the rest of the UK wants a general election to be called so that a competent party can be elected.

But considering the utter chaos the UK is in right now who knows...

It seems that everything started to go downhill after all the morons wanted to leave the EU...that vote should have never even been done. But I think Cameron slightly overrated the intelligence of the people?

There certainly seems to be something fundamentally broken with the PM role. Maybe this new guy will be able to get some - correct - things done before he's ran out on a rail.

I think he'll probably last a while, at least until the next election (Jan 2025 at the latest). He's been in the government before as the Chancellor of the Exchequer under Boris Johnson, so will know how the economy works. Personally I think he's the best of a bad bunch and certainly better than the other two who had showed an interest in the position.

Everything did go to shit after the BREXIT vote. Cameron was so convinced the remain vote would win he didn't really do much to make sure it won. In the end the leave campaign won because enough people believed the lies and xenophobia they put out. Also, I know at least two people who voted leave because they thought remain would win and just wanted to say a big Fuck You to Cameron!

Even by leaving we could have had a Canada / Norway or Switzerland like trade deal which would have meant trade and stuff wouldn't have been unduly problematic... but no they wanted to be able to have trade deals with the rest of the world! We're still waiting on those trade deals...

I'll sign a trade deal with y'all! The collapse of the pound has made a lot of British stuff more affordable!
