Lost power and tornado sirens started soon afterward. Me and my family are in the big closet, riding out the storm.

Winds were at 80mph earlier, down to 70mph now. That's 130kph down to 110kph.

Hail was up to 1.25 inches in diameter. That would be hail up to 3cm in diameter.

Well we skipped spring all together here and straight from record late winter we went into summer with temp at high 80sF for the second consecutive week. No rain everythings drying up already.

Very odd year this one.

Sometime in the past month, during one of the dozen or so lines of thunderstorms that have rolled through here, a location about fifty miles to the west was getting softball size hail. Someone was filming it from within their home, and it looked BRUTAL even from a shaky iPhone video, and the sound was even impressively robust.

My wife was chatting with some friends online and they were all hoping the hail petered out prior to arriving at their respective domiciles. I was secretly hoping it lasted long enough to hit my house, because we are in need of a new roof this year or next year. And that would expedite the process while at the same time causing the insurance company to foot the bill.

Nope, didn't happen haha.

Still no power, but crews have restored power to half the homes that lost power yesterday and are making progress in my zone. Very thankful for that.

Incredibly thankful as well for the volunteers and crews that cleared downed trees. Many roads were blocked off yesterday morning. By the evening, major roads and prominent side streets were all clear and major progress had reached residential issues. Trees that blocked off homes or that needed removal to address structural damage were targeted first after the roads were cleared, now we can get to the rest.

I have to get back to work, so that means going to my parents' house, which always seems to keep power in these events. But I am thankful for that, as well.

Power just got turned on at my house.

Now to download all the internet for offline viewing in case the next round of thunderstorms knocks us out!

Still need to see if Internet service is restored at home before I can do a full celebratory happy dance.

Texas got hammered for sure, glad you all rode it out Z. Watched the weather the other night and they showed basically the entire state of Texas with some bad weather thing going on. No need to wonder whereabouts you are located, because mother nature made sure to cover all her bases.

Freezer content held out - surprised us all. Dairy in the fridges went out, but vegetables and pickles and things we just liked to have cooler than room temperature all survived.

We're working on clearing out our fridge and freezer of old stuff, so that when we restock, we're starting over fresh. That way, we also worry less if there's another power outage tomorrow or Saturday.
