On a brighter note, it's not *our* galaxy that is being devoured by a supermassive black hole, but one that's ~411 million light years away, causing the largest gamma-ray bursts we have discovered.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NeVe_1#Eruption

Read about that the other day and the thought of a black hole so expansive that it *consumes* a dwarf galaxy has hung around in my mind since that reading.

So I really don't mind the heat so much when that thought pops in my mind.

And then I actually go outside and that heat becomes much more here and now.

I guess my point is, like Vyn said, there's not much of a brighter side when it comes to nature, just a matter of how the elements shift this way and that.

Sucks that the rain hit right after spraying, Charger.

Hah! That puts things into perspective indeed.

To continue about that topic, I ponder what does it feel like for the people living in that Galaxy? Will their solar system(s) just get ripped appart and their planet(s) thrown into the abyss and eventually get devoured by the black hole?

And how does it look like in their every day life? Knowing though that it is a long process that takes millions of years basically they might not feel a thing yet...or the other option that those extremely powerful gamma burst have wiped all life out in a split second....

Truly massive to contemplate, and those are pretty much questions I had. And given that this has been going on for around 100 million years and is not finished, but we're able to detect the gamma ray bursts, I'd say the whole galaxy there is cooked by now. The expansion/movement of the black hole is at sublight speeds, but the gamma rays from the consumption of stellar masses would be moving at light speed, tearing things up along the way well before gravitational lensing or orbital eccentricity made for noticeable effects.

One would see the burst as it vaporized one's eyes, as it were.

CHECK THIS OUT!

Straight from Reed Timmer he spotted something truly spectacular last April during a Tornado chase in Kansas!

Thanks for that one, that's a "know your enemy" lesson for folks that live in Tornado Alley, which I think includes myself and Vyn.

Yeah, that was a cool video Charger. The shots of that funnel snaking up in the sky were surreal. I will also say that I imagine that dude out with his family at a restaurant getting ready to order:

Him, yelling "MENU!! MENU!! MENU!!"

HIs family, normal voice "I wonder what the special is?"

Him, yelling "SOUP!! SOUP!!"

AHHHHHHHHHH

lol

That's the exact same track we're on with the weather - just different temperatures. Tomorrow will be the last hot day (high of 32 C) then Saturday begins highs in the low 20s C.

By the end of next week, we should be topping out at 18 C.

Closed the pool yesterday in anticipation  - I am ready for fall to begin!

Take Vyn's weather and add 5 C to it for the Dallas forecast, more or less.

Scattered thunderstorms last night - went out back and there wasn't anything hitting my place, but down south was a cloud blowing up with lightning. I happened to have my phone on me so I took about fifty pictures in rapid succession and managed to capture one. It looks like it's fire setting off an explosion.

Well looks like we've swapped places then...

As it is windy but sunny and 15C here now. That's more like Vancouver weather I think...and bit unusual for Finland.
