We've got a huuuge storm coming in the morning...up on the northern sea areas around Finland we've already had 34m/s gusts (that's 76mph) which is quite unusual for these parts.

It should reach the south west part where I live early morning with potential land gusts of 25m/s (56mph)...which is huge. That's major damage around these parts...and adding the snowfall to that...it's gonna be an interesting morning for sure.

Do you have a generator in case of a power outage, Charg?  :glitch:

I don't. Power was out but only for about an hour. Most of the power cables are ground cables nowadays here already so the outages aren't as common anymore as they used to...or as long lasting.

So this storm was a record breaking storm.

The highest ever recorded 10 minute average wind speed 32.5m/s (72.7mph).

Highest ever recorded gust 41.6m/s (93pmh)

I know if you live in hurricane region these are nothing but considering where Finland is and that severe storm is 25m/s (55mph) these numbers are quite extraordinary.

The worst didn't hit here where I live though. So no storm damage...luckily.

^^Sounds like the same weather front that hit Denmark and caused that fatal train accident over the big suspension bridge?

Yeah part of that same system I believe. It was a huge weather front.

Meanwhile, the weather here in New York is sunny, cold, and rather lovely for this time of year.

Just gone past 42C (104F)in Melbourne today. Hottest day for three years. Some parts of the state have reached a stifling 47C. Cool change is on the way though. It'll drop to 20C in a few hours time.

Only in Melbourne can you get severe sunburn and catch a cold on the same day  :)

^^ Yep. Temperature peaked at 43C just after 4pm today. It’s now just after 7pm and the temperature has plummeted to a cool 18C

Something is definitely wrong with the environment, don’t tell me we’re not having global warming.

We are, I don't think there is a question about that. I think the question is just how much of it is humanity's doing and how much of it is caused by other more natural causes.

Also it is quite possible that on the long run Sun's decreased activity will null out the global warming....and in fact might change the climate to even colder...the signs are already there.

What are the signs Charger?

Well the Sun's activity is getting to an all time low now and it is possible that in the next solar cycle the activity will be so low that it can cause a miniture ice age.

https://www.iflscience.com/environment/we-could-be-heading-mini-ice-age-2030/

Quote
"In cycle 26, the two waves exactly mirror each other – peaking at the same time but in opposite hemispheres of the Sun. Their interaction will be disruptive, or they will nearly cancel each other. We predict that this will lead to the properties of a 'Maunder minimum',"

The Maunder minimum took place in the late 1600s which caused severe climate change...resulting in extremely cold weather and caused famine all over europe.

The Earth's climate is a very complex entity of it's own but is still 100% dependable on the Sun...so when the Sun cools down so does the Earth no matter of the greenhouse effect.

That’s kind of scary, I’ll check your link out, thank you.

I don't know where I saw it, but according to Neil DeGrasse Tyson global warming is inevitable. He went into great detail about the atmosphere, carbon emissions and the resulting weather changes. He made it very easy to understand and made perfect sense. He made a believer out of me.

The thing is Bog, that a lot of Republicans are saying Global warning is not real. How can they say that when it’s evident?

I think it's important to stress that most global warming is in the polar regions. Even with a Maunder Minimum coming up, we're going to see overall temperature increases in polar regions to the point where we can see some significant ice cap melt. Melted ice caps can mean drastic temperature changes in the surrounding oceans, with implications for ocean currents and the life they support.

Another way of looking at it is that there's sufficient polar warming for China and Russia to want to secure the region as a faster transit route from Asia to Europe. Global warming means changing geopolitical realities and failure to acknowledge it will leave a nation vulnerable on those fronts.
