My MP3 player became faulty on Sunday, I managed to copy the music files off onto the PC, it was about 23.5GB.

New player turned up today, put it on charge and started to copy the music files across... I was forgetting it takes longer to copy files to an MP3 player than it is to copy them off. It took about an hour to copy them off yesterday... it was suggesting it would take 8 hours to copy them back!! The estimate is dropping though after about 20 minutes it's down to 6½ hours. Phew!

^ This is why I use a program, Resilio Sync, to keep my MP3s synced up across my laptop, a USB drive, and my mobile. If/when I change my mobile, I'll have a big wait to copy over all my music. 36K files, about 160GB.

Just to clarify the 23.5GB is just that which is on the MP3 player... my complete library is about 91GB. And just in case you're wondering most of it is Ripped from my 600-odd CDs.

Sadly the copying is truly slow... I still have about 2 hours to go so the 8 hour prediction is sadly correct.

Sort of related...back when 56k modems came out I, of course, bought one. I was one of those people that paid for two phone lines so I could have uninterrupted internet once I found a provider that didn't charge by the minute.

So, armed with my high-speed modem, I managed to find a piece of software I wanted that I could download for free (this may or may not have been illegal...). It was 300 MB. I started downloading on a Friday night, it finished mid-day that Sunday. I fretted over that connection like a mother hen, and was thrilled when it completed without issue.

Turned out the version of that software I downloaded wouldn't work on my operating system, so I deleted it.

Hope your file transfer finished up successfully, Kilo!

In the end! It finished about 23:40... about 8hrs 15mins after starting! The transfer speed was about 1mb per second! I think the player must be dreadfully slow for transferring files!

56K modems... oh yeah, I had to dial in with the code to turn off call waiting and run my downloads overnight - "Don't anybody pick up the phone!"

The new MP3 player it turns out is rather good (64GB for £30 and the sound is great). One problem is it doesn't remember where you were when you next switch it on. Minor gripe I know but it means you have to navigate back to where you were if you were halfway through an album or what ever.

That is pretty annoying thing...I had an mp3 player back in the day (only ever owned two of those) that did the same thing...got rid of it fast and bought a Creative one which had last track memory...don't even remember what happened to that one...I might still have it somewhere...or I might have sold it...

Over here, I changed the blades on my razor today. I'm also gearing up to take out a few certifications in the next few months.
