I saw Tomb Raider this afternoon. I'm a big fan of the games and quite liked the Angelina Jolie films, although they did suffer from poor production design.

This film is a step up from those, but that's not to say it is perfect. It's a bit slow to start with but once they are at the island it picks up and it feels like a Tomb Raider film. Vikander is great as Lara Croft (lack of boobs asside!), but the rest of the cast could have been better... but were adequate. Some of the dialogue was a bit third rate; but the action scenes work well and are genuinely unnerving.

My only real gripe (and hopefully it's rectified in any sequel) is that in the games it's just her, she doesn't have help, she sorts things out for herself, in this she almost always accomplishing things with other people around.

This is no Raiders of the Lost Arc (which is ironic because the Indianna Jones video game was no Tomb Raider!). 7/10

We saw Peter Rabbit this afternoon. It's okay actually, not great, I think a better choice for the voice of Peter Rabbit could have been made (I don't mind James Corden but it didn't seem right for the role). It's quite funny in places, a little ridiculous on occasions, but yeah it was ok. 6/10
Have to say it looked pretty ordinary from the trailers I saw, even my 11yo daughter thought it looked pretty lame.

It's shaping as a bumper few months for movies with Avengers:Infinity War, Deadpool 2 & Incredibles 2 at the top of my must see list.

I quite enjoyed this too! Brutal as hell! And Arnie (as usual) was fantastic as was Joe Manganiello!

It was quite brutal - and that sort of took me by surprise at first. And yeah Arnie was really great in this one.

INDIANA JONES AND THE LAST CRUSADE

The original trilogy got something of a perfect closer in this pure masterpiece.

Indiana is reunited with his estranged father in search of one of the biggest relics of christian lore the Holy Grail. Joined in the venture are an eccentric and devious millionaire Walter Donavan a beautiful and deceptive austrian archeologist Elsa Schneider, museum head Marcus Brody and his old friend Sallah...and ofcourse some nazis.

In the beginning we learn why Indy is so afraid of snakes and where he got the inspiration for his outfit. River Phoenix portrays the young hero rather well in that sequence I might add.

The movie is filled with great action and some of the all time most memorable scenes...including the boat chase in Venice, the Zeppelin and ofcourse Indy with a horse vs a tank!
But the true carrying force of the movie is the incredible chemistry and humor between the (once again fantastic) Harrison Ford and the iconic Sean Connery who is for certain in role of his life as Henry Jones sr. Denholm Elliot really steps up here as well offering a lot of added humor. Allison Doody does a great job with Elsa and both Julian Glover and Michael Byrne provide villains worthy of the saga! And ofcourse this wouldn't be an Indy movie without some devious booby traps and a shocking ends to the bad guys.

This is pretty much a perfect adventure movie with a great plot, suberb acting, stellar action and thrilling mythology. A true classic among classics.

We saw Isle of Dogs this afternoon. It's quite good. Wes Anderson is pretty much hit or miss, but I like his recent output (The Grand Budapest Hotel and Moonrise Kingdon) more than his earlier efforts such as This Life Aquatic or The Royal Tenembaums. His previous stop-motion animation (Fantastic Mr Fox) is a bit lack-lustre if not actually bad. The Isle of Dogs is a lot better than FMF but it's quirkyness means it's never going to match the best stop-motion animation such as the Laika films (Coraline, Kubo and the Two Strings) or Aardman's Wallace and Grommit. One thing this film has in its favour is it is not afraid to be a little bit "gory". 7/10

A great film, I loved Redmayne and Jones in the lead roles. Redmayne was so convincing as Hawking.

I loved this movie when I saw it in Highschool. I watched it again with a neighbour who had heard about and was curious to see it. Still stands up and has deservedly earned a cult like following in the years since it was first released.  Apparently it did not do well in the theaters but it was quite successful on home video and also sold well when it was released on DVD.
