Tomorrow night, we're having family movie night and it's my choice. I'm going with the evergreen Bollywood classic... SHOLAY!!!

With one of the most beloved songs, "Yeh Dosti". Sing that almost anywhere in India, and everyone joins in.

RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARC

The rebirth of the classic adventure!

Director genius Steven Spielberg and the writer mastermind George Lucas brought us a modern day classic adventure movie with a masterful story and a hero for the ages.

The movie is pure gold from the opening sequence with Indiana Jones searching for an ancient Inca idol culminating to the discovery of one of the biggest archeological treasures of all history, the Arc of the Covenant.

Raiders has it all, great humor, Nazis, brillaint story, almost non stop action and ofcourse a suberb cast including the one and only Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones, Karen Allen as Marion, Paul Freeman as Indy's nemesis Belloq and ofcourse Ronald Lacey as the evil Nazi and John Rhys Davies as Sallah....not forgetting Denholm Elliot as Dr, Brody.

This movie still remains as a true classic, a masterpiece in its own right. The final scene where Belloq opens the arc hasn't lost a beat and is still one of the most shocking and powerful endings of all time. The use of practical effects and stop-and-go animation still looks great...hard to imagine it will soon be 40 years old.

Raiders Of The Lost Arc still is one of the best adventure movies of all time...hell one of the best movies of all time. It is pretty much pure perfection from start to finish. I only wish movies like this were still made today.

This movie doesn't look half-bad. Kinda like a death metal Spinal Tap

Heavy Trip it's called and it's coming soon...

Just finished streaming the Israeli series "False Flag", and plan to watch it again with my wife when we can schedule 6 hours for the session.

The last few films I've seen are Lady Bird, Game Night and Red Sparrow.

Lady Bird was ok, not sure why there is all the praise for it, but then it is not really aimed at a middle-aged bloke! The story is a little flimsy, but Ronan and Metcalf really work well together. 6/10

Game Night was as good as the trailer suggested (a rare thing!), there are some very funny moments in it and you're never quite sure if it is just a game or for real! 7/10

Red Sparrow is an interesting espionage film, the violence is quite graphic, the sex scenes not so. The plot feels a little generic, and to an extent out of place as it feels like a 1970s period film although it is set in present day. It is one of those films where Jennifer Lawrence looks stunning, not always the case and I think the hair style is fundamental to her looks (ie I don;t think she looks that hot in the Hunger Games films). 6/10

This is NOT a Disney Princess movie! Very rough, but still hopeful, even if it's an Afghanistan sort of hope.

Compelling documentary about the Russian doping program in sport.  I can see how this won the Oscar. A must watch

Miss Hokusai, very interesting film, like a string of anime haikus.

Intro and outro music make no sense to me, but, hey, that's Japanimation for ya...

INDIANA JONES and THE TEMPLE OF DOOM

The second movie takes Indy to the myths of India in search of a missing sacret stone and he soon finds himself caught in some gruesome rituals and rites of an ancient evil cult worshipping the god Kali with a child sidekick and a beautiful cabaret singer.

This is infact a prequel to the Raiders as events take place in 1935. The overall tone of the movie is bit darker and different from Raiders but there is still a whole lot of humor and stellar action to balance the scales. The mine cart sequence is a classic and it still looks great and is fantastically made.

Harrison Ford once again does an amazing job as Indiana Jones and he adds a lot to the character here and he even goes evil for a bit! Kate Capshaw as Willie Scott also does a great job and Amrish Puri as the high priest is something of pure evil. Ke Huy Quan as Short Round does a good job too.

I can imagine, already from the opening sequence that this one must have had people bit stunned in the theaters back in the day...Willard Huyck's script was so vastly different from Raiders that it probably had people thinking "what the heck?" but this is still an adventure movie extraordinaire and it has all the necessary elements of an Indiana Jones movie; great action, good humor, tight spots, booby traps, narrow escapes, mythical artifacts and really bad guys. It was a really brave move to go with a different route and not have nazis or christian mythology and in my book it most certainly paid off.

Overall this did not quite capture the sheer magic of the first one but it is still one of a kind and stands tall as a masterpiece in it's field.

I've watched so much Bollywood, I now watch that movie for Amrish Puri's role as the evil high priest. Amrish Puri had some of the scariest eyes in the business...

Just back from seeing I, Tonya. Not the greatest of films I've ever seen but the performances were great. Much like Darkest Hour the overall package was somewhat lacklustre. I wouldn't have given Alison Janney the Oscar for supporting actress, she was more of a caricature and I think Laurie Metcalf in Lady Bird was a much more believable character. 6/10

We saw Peter Rabbit this afternoon. It's okay actually, not great, I think a better choice for the voice of Peter Rabbit could have been made (I don't mind James Corden but it didn't seem right for the role). It's quite funny in places, a little ridiculous on occasions, but yeah it was ok. 6/10
