After Playboy bunny Shelley is kicked out of the playboy mansion, she finds a job as the house mother for a sorority full of socially awkward girls.  Okay, the film is pretty awful, but sometimes after a long hard day, I just feel like lying down and watching a bunch of brainless bimbos.  :-[  4/10

Absolutely and Part 3 is even better I'd say! What a great trilogy. The fourth part had good moments too but it was ruined by the PG13 rating...and 5 had good action and back to the R but the story wasn't very good to be honest.

Yep!! The first three Die Hards are some of the best from the action side of movies. Also I am a big fan of Bruce Willis, so that makes them even better!

Planning to give a look at The Two Popes on Netflix. Johnathan Pryce and Anthony Hopkins look powerful in it.

Just saw a review of that! Hopkins And Pryce are both brilliant actors, but sadly the topic matter of this movie is about as boring as it can get so I doubt I'd ever be able to watch it.

^^ Yeah I'll probably give that a pass.
This week I've been revisiting the Tarantino movies I've only seem once before. Seen both Pulp Fiction & Reservoir dogs several times and even Jackie Brown and the Kill Bills a few times  but the rest only once.

So after watching Inglorious Basterds the other day I watched Django Unchained last night.

Another cracking, violent, intelligent & stylish Tarantino romp with yet another standout performance from Christoph Waltz playing a German dentist turned bounty hunter.  He truly is one of the most mesmerising & watchable actors going around. DiCaprio is sensational also as is Samuel L. Jackson delivering one of his best performances since Pulp Fiction.

Django Unchained is epic and engaging from start to finish and right up there as one of Tarantino's best movies.

Will watch The Hateful Eight again next...

I haven't seen Inglorious Bastards yet...a lot of people say it's the best one of the "modern" Tarantino's so it is on my list for sure.
But I did try to watch Django but something about it just didn't work for me...I think it had bit too much of the "wrong" kind of modern Tarantino for me...

Hateful Eight is kind of the same thing. What brings it down is the length...it's just waaaay too long. But the acting on it is suberb and the action bits are awesome...but honestly it's just Reservoir Dogs in a different setting in a lot of ways...and about twice as long too...had it been cut to let's say 100 mins it could have been great. But as it is now...I think a three star rating is generous...and most of that is thanks to the excellent cast.

I saw Knives Out this morning, the Agatha Christie inspired whodunnit by Rian Johnson with an all-star ensemble cast: Daniel Craig, Ana de Armas, Jamie Lee Curtis, Chris Evans, Michael Shannon, Don Johnson, Christopher Plummer, Toni Collette and LaKeith Stanfield. While essentially a drama there are some real laughs to be had.

While celebrating his 85th birthday with his extended family Harlan Thrombey retires to his study and appears to slit his own throat. Initially presumed to be a suicide a private detective (Craig) is hired by a mystery person to investigate the suspicion that all may not be as it seems. Everyone seems to have a motive, everyone seems to have a demand on the families resources, which comes to a head after the will is read....

This really is a well executed crime thriller, keeping the viewer intrigued all the way though. The clues are all there, but the twists are well concealed. Craig, de Armas and Curtis give great performances, some of the others are deliberately "hammy", the setting in the gothic mansion is perfect. At 130 minutes it is maybe 15-20 minutes too long, but that's my onlu gripe. 8/10

Yeah, if you're in the mood for Tarantino, a lengthy "talky" movie probably isn't on the street you're strolling. :smug:

Myself, I do enjoy movies with a lot of talk, like My Dinner with Andre, so it may be one that I wind up watching on my own.

KILLING GUNTHER

A group of young hitmen want to go after a seasoned vet and the best hitman in the world that is only known by name "Gunther" to prove that they are the best in the business and they hire a film crew to document it.
The group is lead by a young hotshot Blake who also has a personal reason to kill the legendary Gunther. Soon though it becomes evident that Gunther isn't entitled the best for no reason, in fact he proves to be a step ahead of the team all the time.

Most of the movie is about Blake (Played by the writer/director Taran Killam) and his team trying to find Gunther who's identity isn't revealed until at the very end. The movie plays out like a documentary much in the way of The Office for example and honestly it is done about as badly too. There are few isolated laughs here and there but the humor isn't nearly as hitting (pun intented) as it should be...much like in The Office. But once we find out who Gunther is then the pure gold starts as Arnold Schwarzenegger steals the show completely and proves why he is a legend. In that 20 or so minutes that he is in the movie he provides more humor, and action and laughs than everyone else up to that point. Arnold basically just plays himself...if he would be a legendary hitman instead of a legendary actor.

Arnie makes/saves this movie...totally. Couple of few great action scenes, few good jokes, and a couple of good actors before Arnie steps in after that it is pure gold. All the way up to the end..including the credits!
One star for the beginning plus 4 stars for Arnie gives this one:

The story of the World War II platoon tasked to rescue art masterpieces from Nazi thieves and return them to their owners.  A strong cast and on-location scenes made the movie work for me. 7.5/10

We went to see Jumanji: The Next Level yesterday. The sequel to the blockbuster from a couple of years ago which reunites the main cast (Dwayne Johnson, Karen Gillan, Jack Black and Kevin Hart) and then adds a few new faces (Danny DeVito, Danny Glover and Awkwafina). The action/adventure/comedy sees the young students get sucked back into the computer game and they must complete the level to return to the real world. This time one of their grandfathers (DeVito) and his old friend (Glover) also get sucked into the game.

This time in order to complete the level they must rescue a magic gem which if hidden from the sun causes the jungle to die and fade. The gem has been stolen by a violent barbarian leader and they must infiltrate his stronghold. As such much of the film takes place in a desert, a town by an oasis and the barbarians mountian fortress.

It is a fun film, it is not quite as good as the first one, but that might be partly due to the surprise factor of the first. The addition of the new characters does help, DeVito and Glover are fun additions (although we only see them in the real world as they take on avatars in the game world). 7/10

Two strangers' lives become inextricably bound together after a devastating plane crash.  I'm not a big Schwarzenegger fan, but I have to admit he does a good job here. 7/10

I am a big fan of Arnold, but I agree that here he goes the extra mile and proves that he can indeed act.
