Recently added to my Hammer collection.  An archaeologist and two companions stumble upon a lost city in East Africa, run by a beautiful queen whose love holds the promise of immortality.  Good performances all around. 7.5/10

I remember watching it a long time ago with this final scene in the fire ...
No word to perfectly describe the beauty of Ursula Andress in 1965.

^^^^^^
True that.

A black ops super soldier seeks payback after she is betrayed and set up during a mission.  Far fetched, but good stunt work without defying the laws of physics. 6.5/10

A New Jersey guy dedicated to his family, friends, and church, develops unrealistic expectations from watching porn and works to find happiness and intimacy with his potential true love.  Some good amusing stuff here. 7.5/10

Another enjoyable heist film with most of the characters returning for this new foray into thievery. Interesting and entertaining.

In the Nineteenth Century, in London, the psychologist Charles Marlowe(Lee) researches a new drug capable to release inhibitions and uses his patients as guinea pigs.  He discusses the principles of Freud with his friend Dr. Lanyon(Raven) and decides to experiment his drug in himself.  He becomes the ugly and evil Edward Blake and his friend and lawyer Frederik Utterson(Cushing) believes Blake is another person that might be blackmailing Charles. Meanwhile Charles loses control of his transformation.  Very entertaining story from Amicus Productions. 8/10

Yesterday I watched The Angry Birds Movie 2 mainly because the trailer seemed to show a marked impriovement over the first film. And yes it is a little better. The basic plot is that the Birds and the Pigs have to unite as a 3rd island of Eagles are attacking because their leader has a plan to over throw the other islands as they have a better climate for holidaying. Generally it's ok but there is one scene where the birds and pigs dressed in a an eagle costume try to get teh key card off an eagle guard whilst in a bathroom... it's a very funny scene. There is a side plot where 3 child birds lose some eggs and their antics in trying to get them back are diverting. It's not a bad film but it's no Disney/Pixar. 6.5/10

=======

Today we saw The Current War, depicting the tussle between Thomas Edison and George Westinghouse to develop the best method of distributing electricity to the masses in the 1880/90s. Edison has his DC method and Westinghouse has his AC method, it all comes to a head at the World's Fair in Chicago in 1893. The film stars Benedict Cumberbatch (Edison), Michael Shannon (Westinghouse), Nicholas Hoult (Tesla), Tom Holland (Insull) plus Tuppence Middleton and Katherine Waterston as their respective wives.

I quite enjoyed the film (the critics have been quite harsh about it), and while I knew the basics some of the detail and events had passed me by. Incidentally, this films release has been delayed by two years, it was originally shown in the 2017 Toronto Film Festival and then within days the Harvey Weinstein scandal blew up, the film was delayed and subsequently sold when the Weinstein Co. disintergrated. 7/10

This collective feature-film is made of 10 stories of romance set in Rio de Janeiro.  I liked about 3 of them. 5/10

NATIONAL TREASURE

A treasure hunter searches for the biggest treasure in history following clues handed to his family generations ago.

The movie combines historical facts with lore quite well and creates some great mythology around the Templar Knights, Free Masons and the founding fathers or the United States Of America in a quite believable way.

There is some good action and humor and the cast is also quite good and the supporting roles are great as well, including Harvey Keitel, Jon Voight, Annie Parisse, Christopher Plummer, David Dayan Fisher and Mark Pellegrino. Who at times outshine the leads Nick Cage, Sean Bean, Justin Bartha and Diane Kruger who are also good. Nicolas Cage who can be a hit or miss kind of a guy carries the role of Ben Gates well.

This isn't just another Indiana Jones copy, in fact it is quite different. The action isn't quite as wild and entertaining, but that's actually not a big problem. This stands on it's own. There is a clear Disney stamp on this though which ofcourse leads to very little violence and leaving the action less fierce than in the Indy movies but the story is interesting and the mythology is fitting.

National Treasure isn't the return of the great big adventure like Raiders was back in the day but it still hits its intented mark. It is entertaining and the two hours flew by. And all in all in a movie like this that's pretty much all that matters.

A doctor experimenting with transplant techniques keeps his girlfriend's head alive when she is decapitated in a car crash, then goes hunting for a new body.  This unspeakable horror is so unspeakably bad that it is amusing at times.  There is a mistake in the closing credits where they refer to the title of the movie as "The Head That Wouldn't Die".  I'm not kidding. 3/10

Woodstock: Tnree Days that Defined a Generation

Newly released doco that focuses more on the the attendees and the social and political upheaval leading up to the festival and all the extraordinary happenings around the 3 days moreso than the music itself. I never realised just how disorganised & chaotic this legendary festival was but incredibly they made it work. Some amazing never before seen archival footage in this doco. A very good watch.

This was a great watch and the actors had loads of talent. Frank Sinatra won an Academy Award for his excellent work and the award was much deserved. The movie was engaging and is simply a masterpiece of Golden Age cinema. 9/10
