Following a horrifying experience with the occult in Africa, a schoolteacher moves to a small English village, only to discover that black magic resides there as well.  One of the few Hammer productions that is not very good. 4/10

In the last couple of days I've seen Aladdin and Men in Black: International... one is better than I thought and the other is not so good.

I was never a huge fan of the animated Aladdin, yes Robin Williams was great as the Genie but overall the film wasn't that great. I would probably have given the live-action remake a miss, but everyone was saying it's great, Will Smith is ok and Guy Richie is back to his best. I went in with moderate expectations of film that isn't bad but that isn't to my liking. I was wrong, I really enjoyed it, Will Smith is on fine form and Naomi Scott is lovely as Princess Jasmin (she could do with implants though!! ;) ). The supporting cast is solid including the unknown actor (unknown to me anuway) who plays Aladdin. I don't know if the Monkey is CGI or real but I liked it, and the magic carpet steals a couple of scenes! Overall much better than I expected. 8/10

And then today we saw Men In Black: International, an attempt to reboot the franchise but without Will Smith or Tommy Lee Jones. I've liked the franchise -- the first is great, yes the 2nd is a little meh, but the 3rd was good too -- and the inclusion of Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thomas instead of the aforementioned leads didn't worry me particularly. There is the usual cast of aliens including the pint sized Pawney who I first thought was going be cringe-worthy but turns out to be one of the better characters in the film. Hemsworth still hasn't found a vehicle outside the MCU in which he excels and I fear this isn't it either. The films not dreadful, the plot is thin and the script is unoriginal. I hoped it would be better but despite some good bits it's weak. 6/10

Sorry to hear that...I'm a big MIB fan so I was really looking forward to this. But I think I'll go and see it after all.. Naturally I too had my reservations about this too for it not having Smith and Jones...but Hemsworth is good...don't really have an opinon about Thomas though...she was okay in Thor I suppose...

My bad... that should be Tessa *Thompson*, and yes she was okay in Thor 3 and also in Creed.

STAGECOACH

The rebirth of the western and the birth of what we now consider the "classic" western.

A mixed group of people travel on the stagecoach during the Apache terror days with Geronimo leading the charge.
The cast of characters is lovely and diverse and there is a good mixture of humor and suspense with great dialogue thrown in the mix. One would say this wasn't only just the beginning of the whole "western" genre but that this is something of an ultimate road movie as well.

This was one of the legend John Wayne's first leading roles (although he is actually credited second after Claire Trevor!) and the movie that made him a star. Also it was the first of many collaborations between him and director legend John Ford.

The whole cast is brilliant and they all get their moments to shine, Andy Devine, Thomas Mitchell, George Bancroft and Donald Meek especially all add both humor and a more serious sides, which is what a movie like this really needs.

Also worth mentioning is the music and the fantastic scenery.

It is almost hard to imagine this movie is actually 80 years old now. Times were a lot more simple back then and so was the movie making. And yet it captured something truly special which some of todays blockbuster cgi monsters fail to achieve.

A true and utter timeless classic. Every bit as amazing today as it must have been 80 years ago.

Allied soldiers from Belgium, the British Empire, and France are surrounded by the German Army, and evacuated during a fierce battle in World War II.  Very effective.  Gave me the feeling of being right in the middle of things.  If there was any CGI fx used in this film, then I could not spot it.  8.5/10

The late John Candy delivers the usual zany comedy he is well known for. 8/10

Cat Women on the Moon

63 minutes of some really awful science, my daughter and I paused it frequently to mock both the science and the flawed logic in the plot. It's great to share a passion for bad movies with my kids. :)

A strange movie to say the least I still found it very entertaining, and full of wonderfully dark humor. 8/10

An ok film with some surprisingly good performances delivered by the cast. Not much of a story it sort of fumbles around for a large amount of the film. 6.5/10

A Brooklyn-set romantic drama about a bachelor torn between the family friend his parents wish he would marry and his beautiful but volatile new neighbor.  Top notch acting. 8.5/10
