I saw Captain Marvel yesterday. It's pretty good, it didn't have the "wow factor" I got the first time I saw Guardians of the Galaxy or Thor 3, but it is better than - say - Black Panther.

After an intergalactic skirmish between the Kree and the shapeshifting Skrulls, Vers (Brie Larson, a Kree warrior) is captures but escapes in a pod which lands her on Earth closely followed by Skrull searching for her. Vers quickly teams up with Nick Fury (a de-aged Samuel L Jackson!). The film follows her finding out who she really is and working out who really is the enemy. The effects are up to the MCU usual standard with good acting. The plot doesn't directly push the over-arching MCU story forward (it is set in 1995) but it does explain the end of Infinity War. 8/10

I'll place this at No. 10 in my list of the 21 MCU films:

1 Avengers Assemble
2 Thor: Ragnarok
3 Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol 1
4 Avengers: Infinity War
5 Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol 2
6 Captain America: Winter Soldier
7 Dr Strange
8 Iron Man
9 Captain America: The First Avenger
10 Captain Marvel
11 Ant-Man and the Wasp
12 Avengers: Age of Ultron
13 Black Panther
14 Captain Americ: Civil Way
15 Ant Man
16 Thor
17 Spider-man: Homecoming
18 Thor: The Dark World
19 Iron Man 2
20 Iron Man 3
21 The Incredible Hulk

We went and watched Fisherman's Friends this afternoon. (Not currently scheduled to be released anywhere else in the world... and probably never will!!)

Based on true events from a few years back, it's the story of a bunch of Cornish fishermen who sing sea shanty's in their free time. A record executive hears them sing and wants to get them to make a record. It follows the trials and tribulations of getting that done.

It's an easy watch, funny in places and heart warming, but ultimately quite inconsequantial. 6/10

Well this weekend, I knocked off two more as we watched Thor and Thor: The Dark World. Not that impressed with either and both will probably be low on my list, however I did enjoy The Dark World more.

So now I have Dr. Strange, Hulk, Iron Man 3, and Spider-man to watch

^^^

I really liked Thor when it first came out, but having seen all of the later MCU films come out I've realised that it is a bit clunky and poorly made, if it was made now it would be so much better. Thor: The Dark World is pretty much the same but didn't really push the overall story arc forward in the way that, say Captain America: Winter Soldier did.

I do like all the MCU films to some extent, but Doctor Strange is the best of the ones you haven't seen (IMO!).

Netflix documentary the other night:

Documentary regarding the Flat Earth movement, including a possible love story and schisms between factions. Along the way, we watch as FE advocates set up experiments to prove the world is flat, but keep coming up with curvature...

I find it interesting that the root of much of their argument is, ultimately, that governments seek to control people by perpetuating a myth of a ball-shaped world in order to deride and denigrate belief in God and the Bible and/or Quran. Ironically, we can go back in the stacks and find numerous churchmen who have zero problem with the world being ball-shaped, or even oblate spheroid shaped. It's like the one thing they have to hold on to is this flat earth thing, and they're just not ready to believe what's on the other side of their distorted reality.

Led me to look into the "bowl earth" crowd. Those guys are really rabid opponents of the flat earthers. If you're ever talking with a flat earther and someone seems to be really passionate about proving him wrong, check first to see if he's a bowl earther before you decide whether or not you want him on your side...

... and if you are a flat earther reading this, it's probably obvious that I'm neither a flat earther nor a bowl earther. I'm quite confident about the oblate spheroid that is our planet.

Although... those bowl-earthers *do* have some persuasive arguments... :)

Just picked up a copy of this and I must say it was rather enjoyable. Funny and light it moved along at a great pace. 8/10

Agreed.  I'd call it, forgettable.

In a futuristic world, rebels order an assassin to kill an official in order to help over through the government.  During the mission she discovers a dark secret.  5.5/10

Chris Hemsworth as James Hunt is just perfect but the best performance goes for Daniel Brühl , a real incarnate Niki Lauda.
The sublime appearance of Olivia Wilde seems unreal , perfect Goddess.
