Halloween Horror:

THE MIST

A mysterious mist rolls over a small town trapping a group of people in a store, when people are trying to leave they find out there is something waiting for them in the mist...something not of this world.

This is one of the most human horror movie ever made, it does not depict heroes nor include a lot of action but it deals with not only the horror coming from the outside, the creatures in the mist but the horror of the human mind...how fast can people turn against one another when they are threatened by something they cannot understand.

From the very first time I saw this one it sky rocketed to my all time favourite Stephen King movie adaptations. The atmosphere alone in this is beyond incredible and the cast does a phenomenal job. Especially Marcia Gay Harden as the religious nutter who is dismissed at first with her crazy thoughts but quickly as things worsen starts to gain followers that in the end turn out to be as dangerous as the creatures outside. She truly brings a character you love to hate alive.
Thomas Jane also does an amazing job in the lead, as well as Laurie Holden and Jeffrey DeMunn (both of which director Frank Darabont brought with him to his big tv project THE WALKING DEAD along with a certain Melissa McBride who had a small role in the beginning...and end) and the always great Toby Jones who for once actually gets to play a good guy!

For anyone who has ever played the computer game Half Life this movie should have an even more special place in their hearts as the underlying plot with how and where the mist and the creatures within arrive bares a striking resemblance to the game..as actually does the visualization of some of the monsters...brilliantly created and excecuted by the special effects wizzard Greg Nicotero who also joined The Walking Dead...most of the smaller creatures including some of the spider creatures were done practically.
It is stated that the creators of Half Life actually took their idea from the Stephen King novella which is no surprise that it also then works the other way around for us that have actually played the game first.

The movie's ending scene is still one of the most devastating scenes in all of movie history and it is still just as impressive and heart breaking as it was at the first time. And it does complement the rest of the movie's feel of helplessness and utter horror perfectly. This remains one of the biggest classics of the modern horror genre and one of the best movies of the 2000s.

Bruce Willis reunited with the director from Sixth Sense, the result, a very entertaining supernatural type film.  I like Willis much better in movies like this rather than his typical shoot-um-ups. 7.5/10

One woman's 1100 mile solo hike undertaken as a way to recover from a recent personal tragedy.  Wetherspoon is excellent. 7/10

Have not seen Black Sunday, but Barbara Steel was the only good thing about Nightmare Castle. I will seek out Black Sunday.

I think you will like it, it’s a classic, she plays a dual role. Also, She Beast is another good movie with Barbara Steele

Watched this on Halloween. It's probably close to 100 times I've watched it now but never tire of it and always enjoy watching it with a first timer. This move is over 30 years old now but everything about it still holds up strong today. Just an absolute classic and obviously one of my all time favourites.

Classic, it’s  been awhile since I’ve seen it.

Wasn’t there a sequel to it?

We saw Fast Times at Ridgemont High on rental. Basically a bunch of interlinked stories which didn't really go anywhere. Sean Penn is just so different to how he is now, but Jennifer Jason Leigh nude was the highlight. 5/10

Yes! Bride of Re-Animator and a 3rd movie Beyond Re-Animator. Both pale in comparison to the first one. Stuart Gordon didnt direct them though. Brian Yuzna who was producer on the first one was director on both.
