Watched this film for the first time in 20+ years that I recently bought on BluRay and holy shit did it ever look good. They put real work into cleaning it up and remastering it. 8.5/10

Translated- Arn: The Knight Templar.  Arn, the son of a high-ranking Swedish nobleman is educated in a monastery and sent to the Holy Land as a knight templar to do penance for a forbidden love.  Good realistic action for this time period.  This may be the very first film I have ever seen concerning Sweden.  8/10

Oh looks like I forgot to write my review of

VENOM

Marvel found yet another superhero that hasn't had it's own movie yet. This time it's the alien/man symbiote Venom/Eddie Brock.

The movie starts off really slowly as we are getting to know Eddie Brock and his not so kind ways of doing is reporter job and the debacle that follows after his massive mistake. But once the introduction phase is over and Eddie meets Venom and the action starts the movie kicks into a high gear and doesn't let go till the end credits.

There are ton of amazing action sequences with typical Marvel high quality effects and the one thing that surprised me was the ammount of really good humor as well.

Tom Hardy in the lead is (once again cudos Marvel casting) just brilliant...and unlike most other Marvel heroes he most certainly doesn't look the part which is awesome.
Michelle Williams as his former girl friend however is...well lack of a better word...bad. Granted Williams isn't a great actress nor is she beautiful but here she is also waay out of her league. Totally wrong choice here. Jenny Slate as dr. Dora Skirth is much much better and she would have been a much better choice for the role of Annie as well, but atleast she had good ammount of screen time as it was. Riz Ahmed turned out to be a pretty decent bad guy but I'm sure there would have been better choices for that too.

All in all this was quite a pleasant surprise. I had very little expectations so it is nice to get a positive surprise. There were some untypically graphic scenes with Venom biting off peoples heads and I even remember hearing the F-word once which I have NEVER heard on a Marvel movie before (discounting the horrid Deadpool ofcourse but that's not really an MCU movie anyways) and this was bit more darker in overall tone as well, but the good humor saved a lot.

In Marvel world I'd say this is quite a bit above the abysmal Deadpool, somewhat better than Antman but bit below the "classic" MCU movies (not counting Black Panther which I have not seen yet) but again very entertaining movie. Also the mid-credit scene promised a part two, which I'd welcome with open arms.

Watched the Coen Bros.' "Hail Caesar" on my flight back to DFW the other day.

Really confused plot, needlessly entangling subplots, and a waste of George Clooney and a bunch of great character actors.

I think it would have been better told as a series of connected stories, in a film-within-a-film style. The fact that they all happen at the same time makes for a confusing mush.

Next in-flight movie, I plan to use just my tablet, as there simply were too many interruptions from the pilot on this one and the control for "pause" is right next to where you tap on the timeline to pick up the movie at that point. If you want to pause and hit turbulence, you see the end credits rolling...

We saw the new Gerard Butler film Hunter Killer this weekend. Also advertised as being a Gary Oldman film but he only has about 10 minutes of screen time and really doesn't do anything with it! It's a submarine centred film, and at the beginning of the film a US sub is following a Russian sub when both are sunk in mysterious circumstances. Butlers sub is sent to investigate and the events escalate from there. Much of the CGI is shoddy, much of the acting is shoddy, the plot is shoddy, there is little to redeem this except some of the action was quite entertaining. 5/10

I mean no story as to why Michael is like that, they took out the sibling factor, very disappointing Halloween was, it didn’t explain anything.

Finally got to see Isle of Dogs. It was a lot more cerebral than I expected the film to be, but it worked out that way. Has a cool post-apocalyptic feel to it. If you like Wes Anderson, and I do, it's worth the cost of the rental fee.

The Thing from another World (1951)
Cult !!

some scenes are involuntarily hilarious. At the time, misogyny was openly displayed without embarrassment. Incredible now !!
these moments when characters come inside the base supposed to be lost in the ice of Alaska, only an ordinary wooden door protects the occupants of the freezing cold announced at - 30 ° c !!
very nice window curtains, a fireplace in the living room ... like in a New York apartment. lol!
jokes aside, the film inspired several cult works like Alien with these Geiger counters that will be turned into motion detectors to locate the monster in Ridley Scott's movie.

Interesting film highlighting the difficulties to maintain one's sanity under great pressure.  Good performances all around. 7.5/10

Maybe not a film as such but I rented Yes: Live at the Apollo, which is the Anderson, Rabin and Wakeman line-up with a couple of very capable stand-ins on Bass and Drums. It's a 2-hour concert with some classics and some songs I wasn't familiar with (I missed out on many of the post 1980 albums). A competent performace all round, Anderson still sounds great even in his 70s, and Wakeman's fingers are as nimble as ever! 8/10
