Surely the record company must be culpable for such shoddy packaging even after 13 years. They can't be ignorant as to the effect of the PVC?

The most incredible remains the degree of ignorance of these professionals. They must know that kind of thing . Moreover, how can they think of wrapping the 3 vinyls of this very beautiful edition in something other than beautiful inner sleeves in black or printed paper with an open central circle ? This kind of aberration is beyond me.
So sorry for you Jack.

I just remembered my King Diamond The Lake EP picture disc !!! It has been into a PVC plastic sleeve for tens of years ... luckily, it's flawless and in a white paper sleeve right now.

Well goddamn Jack...that sucks ass.

I'm gonna be checking out my vinyls...although I am pretty sure all of mine are in paper sleeves though....part from the Master Of The Moon picture disc I've had on my wall..that's in a plastic sleeve and probably then destroyed...but I can't see anything wrong with it because of the picture.

They weren’t culpable 10-13 years ago when the problem was first brought to their attention so they’re hardly going to be culpable now. It does make you really annoyed of the stupidity of it though. It wasn’t pressed as a stand alone vinyl set so you can’t even pick up another vinyl and put it in the boxset and the album didn’t sell very good either so it probably won’t get a reissue.

Good chance it will be ruined. Only way of knowing would be to give it a play

Give it it play as well. My AC/DC Power Up album is the limited edition picture disc. I noticed it was in a pvc sleeve as well so removed it today. I did notice a very small patch of fog on it but didn’t give it a spin. Hopefully I’ve saved it before it was too late. It seems these record companies still haven’t learnt though.

Sorry to see that Jack, but yeah, not unexpected. I've kept mine because I could never bring myself to throw them in the trash, but can't even play them so not sure why lol

I think if there’s one positive albeit a very small one, I bought it back in 2008 when it came out, preordered it actually, so I only paid retail which from memory was around $100 and not the $200-$350 they fetched a few years later.

Hopefully it gets a repress one day but I won’t be holding my breath for that.

I just played it just now. Everything is ok, the sound is rotten and flat, so normal for a Diamond production. I prefer that !

  I'm not a vinyl collector at all, but I was wondering, is the environmental conditions playing a role in causing this problem for you guys?  Temperature fluctuations and humidity may be accelerating the process.  I would think that storing these albums in a consistently cool and dry place could slow down, and maybe even prevent this from happening.  Museums which house rare artworks, that are hundreds of years old, pay close attention to environmental conditions or their rare pieces would deteriorate.

I wouldn’t say the environment per se is having a factor but how you store and the temperature you store your vinyl at can play a part in your vinyl deteriorating quicker than it otherwise would. But it’s not really a factor in this particular case. Pvc and vinyl is straight up a bad mix and pvc with direct contact on vinyl over a period can be flat out disastrous, as shown in the photos I posted.

Can't since I still don't have a record player. :D

Listening for the second time to my original copy of Rocka Rolla, I do some research to find out more details on what I bought and see that the very first uK editions have a last line printed all the way down the blue oval "thanks for the words Al!" in reference to the previous participation of Al Atkins on the title Winter.
This special mention will be quickly removed in future editions.
Very happy to see my copy is a first edition distributed in France !

Having suffered during the first listenings because of the jumps and other really uncomfortable cracks, I rewashed the vinyl in a strong way and the result was already much better. Much much less disruption. So the next one will be even better.

I was wondering where Diamonds and Rust was, I Googled it and discovered it was only a bonus track on the 1987 remaster... so I guess I didn't know the album before 1987!

Yep that’s correct. Although it think that particular version also appeared on The Best of album that came out in 78. It’s actually a different version recorded during the Sad Wings sessions than the recording that appeared on Sin After Sin.
