THE NAKED GUN

Sergeant Frank Drebin Jr Detective Lieutenant Police Squad uses bit too much force to take down bunch of bank robberers and is reassigned to investigate car crashes. He soon though realises that the two cases are connected and uncovers a much more sinister plot masterminded by a billionaire.

Drebin jr. unfortunately shares his fathers propensity to cause havoc pretty much where ever he goes.

Liam Neeson is THE perfect choice for the lead. He however does not try to duplicate Nielsen's preformance but rather make the character his own and (just like Nielsen) you'd never believe he hasn't done comedy before.
Pamela Anderson as Beth also does a very good job. Her preformance probably surprised me the most, although she's no stranger to comedy.
Danny Huston's bad guy is somewhat similar to Robert Goulet's in 2½ but not too similar.

The jokes are pretty much on the nose....and there's plenty of them (flood the cowling) and appart from the snowman bit and the owl bit, they work very well. There are some homages (obviously) to the originals and couple of movie spoofs as well.

They just don't make movies like these anymore, everything has to be so goddamn politically correct and nonfunny these days. It's like all humor has been banned by the ultra lefties...well this movie still delievers the goods like it was 1989. And thank god for that!

Now is this as good as the originals? Well...no. But does it have to be? No. It stands on its own two feet just fine. Do I hope there will be sequals? DAMN RIGHT I DO!

Barefoot (2014)

A guy who owes a large gambling debt, despite coming from a wealthy family, meets a young psychiatric patient who's been raised in isolation her entire life.  He takes her home for his brother's wedding and then things start to get crazy.  An amusing and entertaining film.  Although I was unfamiliar with Scott Speedman and Evan Rachel Wood, they do a fine job in the lead roles.  8.5/10

A QUIET PLACE

About a year after a predatory alien species that hunts by ear has invaded Earth a family must try to survive the birth of their new baby without making a sound.

A rather simple plot but with one huge twist...there is virtually NO dialogue in the whole film. The creature design is pretty good although they don't get shown nearly enough.
Also there isn't a whole lot of action but the atmosphere is pretty tense through out and both leads John Krasinsky (From Jack Ryan, who also wrote and directed the movie) and Emily Blunt do a great job. And the best part is that the movie is just under 90 minutes long! That's refreshing amongs all the 2h30min+ movies nowadays.

A quite a different style of a movie and it still managed to entertain. Could have benefitted from bit more action and some gore but still a good film.

I was looking for it but sadly it is not available on any streaming services I have here... Day One seems to be though so I will be checking that one out at some point.

MARLOWE

Private Detective Philip Marlowe is hired by a wealthy lady to track down her missing lover. Marlowe discoveres that he is dead...or is he? And soon Marlowe is wrapped up in a world of rich people and drug smuggling in 1930s Los Angeles.

Liam Neeson is maybe a bit of a surprising choice for the lead but he does a very good job. He sure has the charisma to compete with Robert Mitchum and Humphery Bogart.
Unlike the previous Marlowe films this does not base it's story on a Raymond Chandler novel, instead what you could call fan fiction (in lack of a better term) novel The Black Eyed Blonde by a man called Benjamin Black...and sadly ofcourse that shows. Neil Jordan is a capable director and writer but the source material just isn't as good as Chandler's work. The story is bit overly complex and at times bit hard to follow as there's too many characters and not enough introductions of them.

Also the movie is quite slow paced...could have used (especially in the first half) bit more faster pacing.

The actors do a good job through out though. Diane Kruger as the Femme Fatale, Jessica Lange as the mother, Danny Huston as the bad guy, Colm Meany as the cop and Alan Cumming as the local crime boss are all great.
The dialogue has a great flow and some killer frases and there's is a just a suitable ammount of humor.

But the story is bit lacking and overly complex. This isn't like your classic Marlowe's but it's still decent enough.

Bullitt (1968)

Saw this last night with a friend that had never seen it before.  I had not seen it in nearly 30 years, so forgot most of it other than the infamous chase scene.  Plus, first time not edited for television, first time in high definition wide screen.  The film looked terrific and has withstood the test of time.  Steve McQueen, Jacqueline Bisset, Robert Vaughn and muscle cars!  What else do you need?  An American classic.  9.5/10

I *think* I've seen Bullit... if I have, it was back in the 80s, but so many clips get shown here and there that it feels like I've seen it. Might have to put it on the rental list, so there won't be any doubt about it!

BAD BOYS

Two hot shot cops need to trade identities for a witness in order to catch a bunch of ruthless heroin theifs in the city of Miami.

Will Smith and Martin Lawrence absolutely shine on the leads...and it's clear that they were having a time of their lives filming this one. Loads of improvisation and banter that feels natural.
Tea Leoni as the witness does also a great job especially holding it together while Will and Marter let loose.

Director Michael Bay delivers the goods with great action sequences and still gives the two main stars enough space to do what they do best.

One of the best action comedies of the 90s...hell maybe even all time. No flaws.

BAD BOYS II

Bad Boy cops Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett find themselves against a ruthless Ecstacy smuggler and his crew...and Burnett's little sister DEA agent Syd Burnett.

Will Smith and Martin Lawrence party on once again with bunch of great improvisation and banter but you can see that director Michael Bay reigned them in a bit more than in the first film. Gabriel Union as Syd is a great addition and Jordi Molla's bad guy is pretty good. Joe Pantoliano screams with equal passion than in the first film.

However there is one major thing going against this one compared to the first one...this is a nearly 40 (!!) minutes longer! So some of the scenes, even the action ones seem to all drag just a bit too long. Not having that same brilliant flow that the first movie had.
Had this been cut down to the same 1h50min it could have sped on much much better.
One scene though needs to be mentioned and that's the Morgue scene...that is a constant laugh fest and bordelines near perfection.

All in all not as mind blowingly good as the first part but still a very entertaining action comedy.

Harry in Your Pocket (1973)

Great story about a pick-pocket ring, starring James Coburn, Michael Sarrazin, Trish Van Devere and Walter Pidgeon.  It may be very tough to find this film, (my friend got it for me off of Amazon Prime) but if you can get it, it is well worth your time.  A little known gem.  9.5/10
