I saw The Addams Family 2 today. The animation is the sequel to a reboot from 2019, with the voices of Oscar Isaac (Gomez), Charlize Theron (Morticia), Chloe Grace Moretz (Wednesday), Nick Kroll (Uncle Fester), Bette Midler (Grandma) for some reason Snoop Dogg (Itt) and unknown Javon Walton as Pugsley.

Wednesday gets the feeling she is not really a member of the Addams family and a scientist convinces her that she was mistakenly swapped as a child. The family go on a road trip to resolve the familirs issues but it just makes things worse.

The first one from 2019 was ok, the side story of Wednesday trying to harm or kill Pugsley was quite good, even if the main plot was a little uninspired. This one doesn't really have side plots and the main plot is little better than last time. The stylised animation distracts somewhat and at the end of the day did we really need a reboot? There are a couple of fun set pieces but they don't make up for a generally sub-par effort. 5/10

A movie like I haven't seen for a very long time. What a slap in the face ! with an amazing Bob Odenkirk that I didn't know, Connie Nielsen, an unexpected Christopher Lloyd and aging Michael Ironside. I'm not saying anything about the plot as it would reveal too much. A must-see movie, with a Rock, Hard Rock and Soul score.

We started watching Nomadland on rental yesterday. This years Oscar winner starring Frances McDormand amd David Strathairn. The rest of the cast were genuine members of the nomadic community the film portrays.

McDormand's character is recently widowed and can no longer afford her lifestyle and lives in her van, and as she says in the film "she is not homeless, she just doesn't have a home". She joins up with others in her predicament (I think it's set in Nevada), many of whom have lived in their vans/motorhomes for many yaers.

Anyyway, as I said, we started watching this film -- it's more like a documentary than a drama, although there is some plot it's background filler -- but it is so slow and tedious that we switched it off after 45 minutes (I'm not sure Strathairn had even made an appearance at that point). I'm not saying this is a bad film but it really doesn't fall within my wheelhouse, and because of that I won't rate it!

Sometimes Oscar winners are real head-scratchers. More about Hollywood politics and posturing than actual best-ness.

Indeed, but this years event was an oddity anyway, far fewer films to choose from and some which might not normally have got a look-in picking up a load of nominations. I didn't get through more than about half an hour of The Sound of Metal either!

This fine Amicus production hosts many of England's top macabre performers of the 1960's including Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee, Patrick Wymark, Nigel Green, Michael Gough, George Coulouris and Patrick Magee.  A collector of the occult (Cushing) acquires the skull of the infamous Marquis de Sade, along with all the evil powers it possesses. 8.5/10

Baron Frankenstein transfers the soul of an executed young man into the body of his lover, prompting her to kill the men who wronged them.  Good story, great sets and Cushing is superb. 8/10

This is the 1st of 3 films from Hammer known as the Karnstein Trilogy.  Seductive vampire Carmilla Karnstein and her family target the beautiful and the rich in a remote area of late eighteenth-century Gemany.  Lovely to watch, if you know what I mean.  ;)  8.5/10

One of the creepiest movies I have ever seen! I loved every minute of this modern classic tale of the supernatural. 8/10

This was not very scary yet it still was very entertaining. A solid Halloween movie. 6.5/10

^^^^^^
The Conjuring is very good, Thel.
------------------------------------------

This is the 2nd film in Hammer's Karnstein Trilogy.  In 1830, forty years to the day since the last manifestation of their dreaded vampirism, the Karnstein heirs use the blood of an innocent to bring forth the evil that is the beautiful Mircalla - or as she was in 1710, Carmilla.  Even more lovelies in the one.  ;)  8/10

This is a modern day Hammer production (2012).  A young solicitor travels to a remote village where he discovers that the vengeful ghost of a scorned woman is terrorizing the locals.  Artfully filmed, story is okay.  7/10

This was OK, but nowhere near as creepy as the original film. 6/10

This was much better yet still not scary and actually quite ridiculous in parts. I still enjoyed it and consider it the best of the series that I have seen so far. 7.5/10

In the aftermath of a family tragedy, an aspiring author is torn between love for her childhood friend and the temptation of a mysterious outsider.  Decent story and visually pleasing with great sets and period clothing. 7.5/10
