This was so bad that I turned it off half way through!! I never thought I would say that about a Star Wars film.
Absolute garbage!! 2/10

My kids came home from that one absolutely livid that Disney had gotten their money for that movie that basically took the whole Star Wars saga and dropped a 16-ton weight on it. I have chosen not to watch it.

We last watched the Amazon version of Cinderella. It was more fun than I expected it to be, especially the moments with James Acaster, Romesh R., and James Corden. I'd much rather it been a movie about the 3 mice and all the crazy stuff they did as humans. Having said that it was more fun than expected, it was still something of a chore to get through, but my family enjoyed it.

I'm going to watch The Man Who Would be King either today or tomorrow. I just bought it and It's been too long since I last saw it.

The first human born on Mars travels to Earth for the first time, experiencing the wonders of the planet through fresh eyes. He embarks on an adventure with a street-smart girl to discover how he came to be.  Well shot, decent story, worth a look.  8/10

It was an insult to anyone with an investment in the Star Wars mythology. Totally insulted and degraded the character of Luke Skywalker.  The movie was a disaster on every level except financially. Everyone I know calls it the worst Star Wars movie until the dumpster fire that is Rise of Skywalker.

It's hard not to destroy this movie which responds so well to new feminist codes and other me-too rules. Female central character, ridiculous (David Harbor, the father) or under-exploited (the excellent Ray Winstone, the villain) male roles as if they are no longer needed in this new world. All the other characters are women, except the prisoners before the escape scenes. The rest is a series of scenes of actions and fights more or less justified. Only the post-credits scene is of interest .

Well, I watched Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior recently.

Very direct plot, well executed. Dialogue at a minimum and action played to the hilt.

In the week I saw Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, the latest film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It's the origin story of Shang-Chi, it stars Simu Liu, Awkwafina, Tony Chiu-Wai Leung, Meng'er Zhang, Michelle Yeoh with a re-appearance of Ben Kingsley's Trevor Slattery last seen in Iron Man 3, with an otherwise largely Asian cast. There are minor cameos from Brie Larson, Benedict Wong and Mark Ruffalo.

The story revolves around Shang-Chi, the son of Xu Wenwu a power hungry imortal who gains his powers through the titular Ten Rings which he has possessed for centuries. Shang-Chi has escaped to America to avoid his father until one day his past comes back to bite him. The film is heavily influenced by Oriental mythology, martial arts, hidden valleys, mythical beasts and honour.

This is very unlike the usual MCU fare, much of action is martial arts and magic and little in the way of technology weapons. This is the best "origins" film in the MCU since Doctor Strange and I guess the character Shang-Chi may well appear in the upcoming Doctor Strange sequel. Colourful, action packed and a great scene in a bus. I'll rank this 9th of the 25 MCU film. Overall 8/10

My family likes MCU, I'll pass on your appraisal to them.

For me, I watched That Thing You Do last night because I did my radio show on Motown music from 1965-1966 and had to go back to the era.

Over the last couple of weeks we saw Once Upon a Time in America -- the rental company sent us the film in two parts a week apart as it is nearly 4 hours long! This mobster film is set over several decades (1920s thru1960s), and stars Robert De Niro, James Woods, Elizabeth McGoven, Treat Williams, Tuesday Weld, Burt Young and Joe Pesci.

The story recounts the rise of Noodles, Max and their gang from youths to men, and at the end it catches up with Noodles in the 60s. The story is told in time split sequences going from 1920 to the early 30s and back again. It's violent, uncompromising but a compelling story, very well shot and directed by Sergio Leoni -- his last film.

I can't imagine how bad this film was when first released with cuts to shorten it to about 2:20 in length, it feels like a lot of story is missing in this 3:49 version. Apparently after principal photography was complete they had about 8 hours of material. Leoni wanted to release it as 2, 3 hour films but the studio wouldn't here of it.

Anyway, a very good film, with some minor flaws. 8.5/10

These days, 8 hours of material is not quite enough for the 3-parter we had in mind back at the studio...

Should be done in a mini-series format.

Absolutely, these days it would be a 10 episode mini-series on Netflix or HBO

The teen part and the score are just unforgettable. Some scenes are impossible to imagine today. De Niro is masterful until the last frame.
this Masterpiece deserves a 10/10
