Finally watched Fried Green Tomatoes all the way through with my wife the other night. I had a fun time with that movie, totally loved the parking lot scene.

Not bad, but not great either. I have to admit I enjoyed it for the most part, but there was just something missing??!!

One of those big blockbuster and family friendly movies that actually delivers. This is the second time that I have seen it as I watched it when it was released about 14 years ago. Ben Stiller does well here and it was cool to see Dick Van Dyke and Mickey Rooney. I have not seen the sequels but I do own a copy of the second one that I may watch soon. 7.5/10

A gem. So beautiful.
The acting of the two main actresses is exceptional. The place where the movie was shot - this wild ocean with those windy deserted beaches- is near my home town.

My God , what a great movie. Mark Ruffalo carries the film in a masterful way. You will never look at your frying pan again like never before.

They also have the Mesrine pair of films, been a while since I saw those - Cassel was great in them.

Saturday Night Sci-Fi


Scientists and American Air Force officials fend off a bloodthirsty alien organism while at a remote arctic outpost.  Good effort to tell a realistic story. 7.5/10

Believe it or not this is the first time that I have seen this movie. I was missing something great and a depiction of military PTSD that was way ahead of it's time. 8/10



The absolute worst OO7 movie of them all, even ten times worse than Octopussy.  Avoid!! 4/10

Had some great fun with a pair of movies this weekend:



The 1968 classic from Mel Brooks, "The Producers". Absolute riot and the kids loved it. (Kids are 18 and 25, so the term is purely one of biological relationship... )

On Saturday, we went for it on a movie that turned out pretty darn good, all things considered:



The acting carries the script. The script is pretty much a basic heist story, this time with rednecks and hillbillies (yes, there's a difference) instead of slick gangsters and con-men. All the actors do their job, and that's all I wanted on Saturday night. A fun popcorn-chewer escape. Best part is that the film quits while it's ahead and leaves just a few question marks about what happens next, but doesn't develop into a sequel or teevee series. Nice.

I really enjoyed Logan Lucky, for all the reasons you mention. I partticularly enjoyed Daniel Craig's character and the exchange in the prison negotiation scene regarding the Game of Thrones books in the prison library... but you may need to know the history behind the books releases to apprecoate it!!
