I LOVE that film!
But you hated Iron Sky.   :twitch: :twitch: :o

Why would you even compare the two? They're not even in the same genre!

What are you talking about?  ???  They are both science fiction.

I wouldn't call Doomsday sci-fi...not by a long shot. No space ships, or aliens or space nazis there! ;)

Plus Iron Sky isn't pure sci-fi either..it's (trying to be) a parody...
The library collection of films from which I get my Saturday night flics are all catalogued under "Sci Fi".

Well sci-fi is used very widely...too widely most of the time. :)

Watched this for the hundreth time. Just as good as it gets and the start of something exceptional. 8.5/10

This B movie turkey about a oversized genetically created monster croc thingy was quite bad but yet strangely entertaining. 4.5/10

My second favorite of the prequels right after Revenge Of The Sith. An overall enjoyable experience it does have it's flaws, some that are glaring (JarJar anyone????) it still is a "good" movie. 8/10

I agree with that. JarJar was annoying as you can't make out what he says but other than that I have very little beef with that movie and visually it is STILL stunning! Heck these look still better than the latest trilogy did!

Another Hammer Horror movie, this one was quite good though it was maybe 20 to 30 minutes overlong. 7/10

THE HAPPENING

A strange event starts taking place in the North Easter US where people suddenly start killing themselves in masses without any apparent reason. A school teacher and his wife and the daughter of a friend start seeking refuge in the countryside while the event keeps spreading and more people around them start killing themselves.

Another rather strange movie from the director M. Night Shyamalan who probably has one of the most uneven careers in movie history. He started off rather brilliantly with The Sixt Sense, The Unbreakable and Signs but then started getting bit off the reservation with The Village and then jumping off the deep end with Lady In The Water but he did find his way back again with The Happening. The story unfolds bit more like a mystery instead of a normal disaster/end of the world movie which works quite well as do some very quirky characters and some off the cuff humor, but mainly the movie is carried on with the preformances of Mark Walhberg and the beautiful Zooey Deschanel (those eyes...) who act very well together.

Shyamalan leaves a lot of open questions as to the origin of The Happening itself which is something of a trademark eventhough some form of explanation is given in the end which gives the movie a somewhat of an ecological message. But it's not overly preachy about it.

A quite different type of a movie which proved that Shyamalan could still do good work too...sadly this still remains is final good work.

I remember seeing this back in the 90s and  it still resonates and stands up today. Harrison Ford is exceptional in the lead role.

Saturday Night Sci-Fi

Astronaut Sam Bell has a quintessentially personal encounter toward the end of his three-year stint on the Moon, where he, working alongside his computer, GERTY, sends back to Earth parcels of a resource that has helped diminish our planet's power problems.  A surprising twist made this film well worth watching. 8/10

in my opinion, The Visit and Split are two very good movies which prove the return of his inspiration !

Split was excellent and James McAvoy was great with all the different personalities, it's sort of a sequel to Unbreakable. 2019s Glass was the third of the trilogy but I haven't seen it yet.

I quite like The Last Airbender, and After Earth was apparently a bit rubbish.

Regarding The Happening... ugh, one of Shyamalans worst efforts. When we saw it there was constant laughter from the audience at the absurdities on screen!! Which is a shame because we both liked the lead actors.

As I understood it this was intented to be something of a tribute to the absurd B-movies of the 60s and 70s...that's how I took it anyways...and that was one of the reasons I enjoyed it.

Airbender was horrid...couldn't even watch it through...After Earth didn't even bother with.

Speed Crazy

Hilariously bad 1950's "teen delinquent" movie about a murderous drag racer. Zero story getting in the way of the plot of that bad boy!

In 1830, forty years to the day since the last manifestation of their dreaded vampirism, the Karnstein heirs use the blood of an innocent to bring forth the evil that is the beautiful Mircalla - or as she was in 1710, Carmilla.  A fine presentation from Hammer.  The bulk of the film takes place at a young ladies finishing school, loaded with beautiful women. 8/10
