Wow , just wow !! I totally ignored this story before seeing this film. A movie inspired by the testimonies of the victims. Chilling ! A reality so terrifying.
A must see .

Found out the daughter hadn't seen The Karate Kid, so we had to watch that as a family this weekend.

Fun movie, nice US turn on the traditional martial arts movie. Wax on, wax off!

These stories are peppered all over the history of rock and soul in the USA. On my radio show the other day, I played a song by The Marigolds, who also performed as The Prisionnaires, on account that they were prisoners allowed to record and tour on a work-release arrangement with the warden of the prison getting the better end of the financial arrangements (the prisoners were paid in commissary credits). One of the prisoners had been jailed because he was in the same vehicle as a white woman, even though that woman was his wife. In 1950s Tennessee, the law did not permit marital relations between Blacks and Whites, so he was convicted as a felon.

Inspired by Typhon and Halloween being soon led me to this movie. First time I have seen it and it was entertaining and even a bit creepy in parts. I have bought a few Hammer Films collections over the last few years and must sincerely thank Typhon for making me aware of them. This one gets a 7/10

^ Now I want to watch "Wrestling Women vs The Aztec Mummy".

It is as great as the name implies. If you like Mexican wrestling movies, this is one of the legends of the genre. I can also recommend a trio of Santo movies: Santo Contra El Rey de Crimen, Santo en la Hotel de la Muerte, and Santo Contra los Zombies.

Saturday Night Sci-Fi

A futuristic action thriller where a team of people work to prevent a disaster threatening the future of the human race.  It has a slight Mad Max look to it, which is the only good thing about the film.  Nothing original. 4/10

JUMANJI - WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE

A group of kids find an old console game that literally takes them into a game of their lives in a strange world called Jumanji where they have to stop a curse by returning a stolen jewel.
In the game they are given "avatars" that are...let's say quite different than their real bodies and they have to play the game by completing several levels that prove deadly and with only 3 lives to spare.

Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Karen Gillan and Kevin Hart absolutely shine in their roles each one show a tremendous ammount of self irony which is quite enjoyable and refreshing. Jack Black who is the avatar for a girl is just brilliant. Showcasing once again why he is one of the better comedians of our time...same goes for Kevin Hart. The Rock also shows again that he is more than just your average action star. And Karen Gillan...her beauty never quite came out in Guardians but here, my goodness...she is stunning.

Bobby Cannavale who I got to know already ages ago from the brilliant tv show called Third Watch also shines as the villain.

This movie was quite a surprise to me. I knew very little of it and I was never that impressed with the "original" Jumanji with Robin Williams (who I never really liked to begin with) but this was quite a step up from that. Great action, great effects, brilliant casting and stellar humor. All in all a very enjoyable entertaining movie. And I can't wait to see the sequal that's already out as well!

@Charger

Regarding Jumanji. Yup, it was a very good film with great casting as you say. yes Karen Gillan looks lovely, but I thought she looked lovely in Guardians too! I've always said that Jack Black is great in the right roles... he's just not always in the the right role!

The sequel is much of the same but because you've seen it all before it's not such a surprise. But I still enjoyed it.

Agreed on Jack Black. I think the big problem with him is that he got type-casted bit too often in the beginning..most of his roles were bit too samey. And then he wanted to break free from that and went too far again...these kinds of roles as he had here are the ones that he really shines in.

About Gillan in Guardians I'm not that into robot chicks than I guess I should be... :D

Why would you even compare the two? They're not even in the same genre!

I wouldn't call Doomsday sci-fi...not by a long shot. No space ships, or aliens or space nazis there! ;)

Plus Iron Sky isn't pure sci-fi either..it's (trying to be) a parody...

The library collection of films from which I get my Saturday night flics are all catalogued under "Sci Fi".
