So I thought. Bigger issue? What make of car?

Dodge Avenger.

Ouch...They've got the DSG transmission right? Same that VAG uses....Those are rather shitty. They break both mechanically and electronically. Regardless that'll be a very expensive fix.

If you've already got a lot of mileage on it, might just be time to drive as long as it lasts and say bye bye and then either get a new transmission or a used one...or just get a new car.

it has a lot of mileage I’ll be getting a new transmission, I have no choice can’t afford a new car, it’s going to cost me $5000, it just went without warning.

Rather pay $5000 than triple the amount or quadruple the amount I can’t afford.

Funny thing is I bought the car exactly 6 years ago today. April 30th 2013.

You could find a decent used car for less than 5 G's.

Yeah honestly I don't think I'd be spending that on that transmission.

You can get a pretty darn nice used car for 5Gs like Typhon said.

But if you DO want to fix that one try finding a good transmission mechanic. He'll fix it for half that.

Around here you can get your automatic transmission pretty much rebuilt for 2500-3000€.

Yeah but I have this car since new, I might buy a used car with more problems.

No engine light came on, nothing, this is the first problem I have since I bought the car.

I could’ve gotten it rebuilt with 2 year warranty for $3,950 for an extra $1000 I get 3 year warranty and 100,000 miles

Always have a mechanic check out any used vehicle before buying.  If you keep this one, make sure that nothing else is about to go.  You said it had high mileage.  I don't know what that number is or the year of the car.

Pretty steep for just one more year of warranty...especially on an old car.

But ofcourse everyone does as they see fit with their cars. I'm not sure I'd be willing to spend that much on an old car, but I do understand that you have a good relationship with it for a long time...specially since you bought it new.

How's the Avenger been otherwise? I have been looking at them myself...as they don't cost much around here...you can get a 2009 model for just under 4 grand. How much mileage does yours have? What year? the 2.7 V6?

Wow you've driven a lot. I've had my current car for 11 years and I've only gotten about 75000 miles. And I live in the country side...

I'm with Typhon, $5000 can get you a lot of car, with less miles. And if you spend a little north of 5K, you can get an even better car, potentially. I'm looking at cars right now since my son totalled the one he was driving (no injuries, but the airbags deployed and there was massive front-end damage) and we'll be looking for something on that cheap side he can use for gettin' around town.

I’ve had this car since it was new it never gave me any problems till now, exactly 6 years to the day I bought it, I’m a sentimental type man, so I’ll be keeping it, despite the cost to fix it, I know it’s a lot, but sentimental value supersedes anything else.
