car mechanic, I was driving home and all of a sudden my car wouldn’t go anywhere and then when I gave it gas it would jump.

Does it idle smoothly?  If not, your fuel injectors could be stuffed up with dirt.

I can only guess from here, but from your description it could be dirty fuel injectors, old spark plugs or condensation in the distributer cap.
