New year new greenhouse season start!

I'm am planning on planting my first Chili seeds today. Got some new varieties again and some old ones that have been proven to be good ones. Last year I didn't have any really hot ones and I didn't take any super hot ones this year either as those are rather hard to utilize but I did take some varieties that can be called hot so lets see if they'll grow.

^^^Congrats Charger !! your greenhouse is exemplary cleanliness ! What soil do you use? obviously it isn't some garden soil but rather a special soil for planting and sowing ...

Thanks!

I'm using a mixture of peat and regular garden soil. About 70% peat 30% soil. The peat gives it air and prevents it from hardening. The soil gives it some weight and traps in more moisture.

Tomatoes and Cucumbers espcially like it...chilis aren't quite so picky but they also do seem to like peat.

This is what I thought when looking at the pic. You don't have to worry about sourcing peat in Finland ? Here, the potting mixes sold in the trade contain less and less of it as well as the biodegradable pots which are more and more often in coconut fiber. The reason given for no longer including peat in the composition of these gardening items is that peatlands are CO2 traps and that by continuing to exploit them, we release a large amount of this greenhouse gas into the atmosphere.

Peat production is still strong in Finland but it is getting cut down by the lefty-green government all the time...sadly...as it means the loss of livelyhood for hundreds and hundreds of people.. But luckily it is still wildely available as we have a lot of marshes...and the promise is that garden peat would remain available, but who knows...All I know is that it is the perfect soil for the greenhouse...and for the pumpkins too. :)

Every year I try to leave some room for herbs but there never is any...
