Been drought conditions here in New England for the past month and a half.  Nothing more than a rare pop up shower.  Driest summer in quite a few years.  Normal temperatures though.  Everyday in the 80sF (28 to 32C).

In the USA, the states of Iowa and Illinois almost got completely blown into Lake Michigan with the Derecho storm system that passed through.

Two pretty warm days here still...Yesterday was 27C (81F) and today 28C...

Next week they're still saying it might be around 25C...so it's pretty nice still...and no sign of rains either...farmers like that as it's getting near harvesting season.

What I'm hoping is that this warm season will end with a bang with massive tunderstorms...it can happen...we've had those MCS's here before after a long hot season late in the summer...

A fantastic thunderstorm cell...biggest we have here on a yearly basis...we do have the occational Derecho as well but those are very rare and to my knowlage one has never happened in this region..some have been reported on the lake district in the middle of the country.

We had a line of thunderstorms last night, first rain this month. Quite a good soaker, as well.

Much cooler and drier behind the front: high today should be 93F / 34C and humidity around 30%. It's still really humid, just not suffocatingly so.

Meanwhile, I'm getting my doors replaced. Having gaps you can see sunlight through is NOT what you want in a Texas summer! That means the heat and humidity are getting IN, not what I want. My office is the worst - it's much hotter than the rest of the house. When I was travelling last year, I didn't notice or mind it as much.

Now that I'm home 100% of the time, we're gonna get that FIXED!

Well I have been a storm buff my entire life so I to tend to know a thing or two and been with storm watchers groups and sites I've gotten used to using the "proper" terminology.. :)

Didn't mean to sound like a wise ass or anything...  O:-)

Actually, I really like storm talk. We have LOTS of big storms here in Texas, and it's valuable to know your enemy, so to speak.

Where I live has the highest insurance rates in the USA because of the constant wind and hail damage, courtesy of the massive thunderstorm lines we get every spring and fall.

Well not a lot of storms in these parts so that's what makes them even more special...especially thunderstorms.

Today's a rainy day. There was a possibility of severe thunderstorms as well as the moisture levels high in the atmosphere and the CAPE was expected to be high but sadly a full cloud coverage killed that...so we've just been having steady mild to moderate rain.... bugger.

This also marks the end of summer then...next week temps should drop below 20C...so bye bye summer...welcome autumn.

And what would "CAPE" mean, for us ignorant peasants?   :squint:

Convective
Available
Potential
Energy

CAPE is measured in Joules per kilogram in the atmosphere. Higher the CAPE stronger the possibility of a thunderstorm.

Normally CAPE is under 50 J/Kg and when it reaches higher than 250 it can mean thunder...when it reaches higher than 400 then strong thunder and if higher than 800 then severe thunder with high gusts... In the US supercells can have CAPE's up to 3000 J/kg!

Yes, we get those here in Dallas. MASSIVE buggers!

We're supposed to have a pair of tropical events hit the Texas coast this week and likely track up over the Dallas area for some rain midweek. Never had a pair of tropical storms or worse hit so close together, timewise.
