So a guitarist friend of mine on facebook posted this and as you guys know I have never really gotten into Exodus nor have I ever really listened to them, but since I wasn't sleeping last night anyways I thought I'd check it out...and damn this is a great song! Musically that is...that singer though...pretty damn bad. But the guitar work especially is brilliant here. Ofcourse it has Gary Holt who I know from Slayer.

Jack and Thel you probably know more about the band any stuff I should most certainly check out? I think I've heard a song with Steve Souza and if possible his vocals are even worse...but I could remember wrong too...
Love me some Exodus but not with Rob Dukes on vocals, that song is from The Atrocity Exhibition: Exhibit A. Monster album spoiled by the vocals of Dukes as are the other two he screams on(Three if you count the blasphemous rerecording of their debut).

Souza is much better and more tolerable but is an aquired taste and can grate after awhile, he has a touch of the Bon Scott's about him without the character of coarse.

Paul Baloff was the original and the best though. I've always thought of him as the quintessential thrash vocalist. He didn't sing or growl but yelled and snarled in a way that was totally unique and couldn't be replicated by anyone. His attitude and character on and off stage is the stuff of legend.
The debut album and unfortunately the only studio album he was on "Bonded By Blood" is a straight up classic and generally considered the greatest thrash debut along with Kill 'Em All.

I suggest you start with that legendary release and if that ain't to your liking then maybe jump to their 3rd album(2nd with Souza) "Fabulous Disaster"

From there, I suggest you check out 2004's "Tempo of the Damned". Great modern thrash album packed with brutal memorable riffs. Personally I think it's their 2nd best album behind Bonded and one of the best thrash albums of the last 25 years. If you don't like that album or the debut then Exodus probably ain't for you.

Gary Holt is an absolute beast!  :guitar:

Listening to Bonded By Blood (The title track) right now!

Baloff sounds a bit like a mixture of Neil Turbin and Paul DiAnno with some Araya thrown in...would never have thought a mix like that would work but it actually kind of does! Surely he sounds better than that guy Dukes.

I need to check Souza's stuff soon too.

Oh Metal Command just came on and damn...this song is great!

Edit:
Okay...And Then There Were None...that riff! Wow.

I think I need to buy this album....

Okay went through Bonded By Blood and liked it!

Now I'm listening to this:

I'm liking Souza now...he sounds a lot like Udo...

Honestly I know very little to nothing about thrash bands outside of the big 4 plus Exodus so I can't take part in this one.

Dangit! Most of my thrash is Megadeth and Anthrax!

But how about Motorhead's Overkill?

Never mind. I thought that might’ve been the case but knew Thel would have 3 which I’m quite surprised by his picks actually. Definitely knew an Overkill album would get in there but not the other 2...Interesting Thel.

Id probably recommend Overkill’s “The Years of Decay” for of all of you. Has a good amount of variety and well written songs. Even has a doomy Sabbathesque track on it.

Well the Nuclear Assault was along with Slayer's Reign in Blood my first introduction to what I personally classify as Extreme Metal. I can remeber hearing Handle With Care  for the first time and how incredible it sounded to me. To this day it remains one of my favorite albums of all time.

The Evil Dead album is in my opinion one of the best of the underground Metal scene. Every time I hear it it moves me to Thrash!!!  :wootwoot: Such an overlooked album, I first heard this one in Hawaii, and for some reason it really resonated with me.

Handle With Care is a great choice Thel. Very consistent all the way through. They had a peak period in the 80’s where they a had solid following but they are seemingly underrated these day’s for their 80’s output. Being considered a crossover thrash band probably hurt them. They were always much more thrash than hardcore to me.

I don’t believe there’s a Metallica thread on here so I’ll leave this here.

34 years ago today a uniquely talented bass player and musicians life was tragically cut short at just 24 years of age.
