I found myself quite enjoying that...worked better live than the studio version which lacks punch, this was actually quite heavy once it kicked in.

Sounds a bit more empty compared to the studio version. Only difference here is the drums kick in with the solo, but Les is hardly playing with any oomph! Also Ripper doesn't sing it with the same emotion as Rob but still does a good job.

Great article. I’ve always thought Stained Class is one of their very best and the pinnacle of their 70’s output. https://www.loudersound.com/features/how-judas-priest-made-stained-class-the-album-that-transformed-heavy-metal

Stained Class is an odd one...it's got some really amazing tracks and then a few meh ones...but then again that was the Priest thing in the 70s...

That's a long article...but if I get the time I'm gonna read it through.

It is a good article. Thanks for the link, JtS!

The parts about getting the studio sound just right were fascinating to me.

That vocal track is far out, hard to believe it's been 30 years!

That was the best Rob has ever sounded...Painkiller was (is) a killer record. Rob never managed to capture that preformance live which is no surprise...I do ponder how many takes it took for him to record those vocals...he probably did it verse at a time..or maybe even line at a time.

It's always a big struggle between Defenders and Painkiller for the best Priest album but I think today I'd go with Painkiller. :)

So is "Painkiller" about an analgesic like Tylenol or is it about a killer... who uses a lot of pain...? Or a killer who himself *is* in a lot of pain? Or is it about an anesthesiologist?

I thought I was going to laugh my butt off, but then I heard the man play and... wow, that guy is GOOD. Like *enchantingly* so. Gotta +1 you for that, Charger. No question about it, the rules are clear, as that is awesome!

Thomas is brilliant! I've been following his career for years. He does some amazing things with an acoustic guitar.

One of the best acoustic guitarists I've ever seen. I had the pleasure of seeing him live with Blaze Bayley few years ago and damn...I just mean DAMN!

Well damn...this don't sound too good:

He's pretty young too...hopefully it's nothing overly serious.
