I thought I would start a thread devoted to my favorite holiday. :death: Post anything you like here that would in some way be related to Halloween. >:D For example:
1) pictures of yourself from past Halloweens
2) decorations at your residence
3) a good song to play at a Halloween party
4) and if you watch a scary movie, I'd appreciate it if you post here as well as the movie thread. I know I will be watching a few this month.
Happy Halloween to all!

(1957) The first in the Frankenstein series of films released by Hammer Studios. Peter Cushing is excellent as the mad doctor. Christopher Lee is marvelous as the creature. Hammer puts great effort into realism, as can be seen by the intricate detail of the apparatus in the doctors laboratory. 8/10

Peter Cushing is an actor I never tire of seeing perform. Thanks to Star Wars for exposing me to him and Alec Guinness. :)

Interesting...
My first encounter with Cushing was Sherlock Holmes and the Hound Of The Baskervilles with Christopher Lee...I was a Holmes fan before I was a Star Wars fan... :)

We don't have the same traditions for celebrating halloween as you USians and Finns, atleast not at my age. The last 10-15 years trick&treating have become more and more popular, though. We're getting Americanized... :P
But my own tradition is to take a hike in the forrest when it's pitch black, with nothing but a small flashlight. That make for a very special atmosphere. :) Hearing the sound of an animal just a few feet away, but not seeing anything, f.eks. Very nice. Very "Black Metal"... ;D

-
I first encountered Peter Cushing in the Hammer House films, superb actor. He and Christopher Lee both turned down the role of Dr. Loomis, Donald Pleasence another superb English actor took up the role, to which later Christopher Lee regretted.

Last night watched The Exorcist. This movie IMO still holds a punch. One of the best horror films of all time.

I was a teenager in 1973 when this film was released, and I remember the huge headlines it made because of the "gore and horror" it brought to the screen. :o In fact, people were warned that the film may be too upsetting for some adults. Times were different then.

(1958) The second in the Frankenstein series of films from Hammer. It maintains the high quality of the first film. Cushing fits this character so well that sometimes when I see a picture of him, I think he is Victor Frankenstein. 7.5/10

(1972) From Amicus Studios (Hammer's biggest rival) comes a fine little film about a doctor who visits an asylum for the insane, to apply for the job as headmaster. However, the previous headmaster is himself now a patient, and the doctor must talk with each to determine who he is. Each talk is a flashback of a short story showing how and why the patient is there. This is a typical style of an Amicus film. Having 3 or 4 short stories within one movie. Some generally good scares. 8/10

When I was a teacher, this would happen every late October...
STUDENT: Hey Mister, you got any Halloween music?
ME: Sure. Just a sec.
Student expects "The Monster Mash" or some other novelty song, or cheesy sound effects...
I, however, open with this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pHOWKavdGRA
I rise from my chair, stare at the student. My face is expressionless. I point at the student with my right hand and make odd gestures in time with the bass chords with my left hand.
STUDENT: The fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu...? Mister, you're really trippin'.
The student laughs, but the laughter becomes more nervous as I continue to gesture and stare. Then this track plays next:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JvyhxY54M3I
STUDENT: Holy crap, that's really freaking me out, Mister.
STUDENT #2: I am literally scared about what happens next.
STUDENT #3: Is this what Hell sounds like?
STUDENT #4: (To Student) Oh my God, you know he's insane! *WHY* did you ask him to play Halloween music?
STUDENT: Jeez, I'm sorry! Please stop, Mister!
I keep staring at Student, but sit in my chair and fade out the volume on the Buddhist monks' throat singing... the room has a nervous silence about it...
ME: There are two things you fear most. Yourself, and the unknown. I will always have access to the unknown, do you understand?
STUDENT: Um... yeah?
ME: Then let that knowledge guide your judgment. Will you ever choose me as an enemy?
STUDENT: Good God, no.
ME: Remain faithful to your oath, or the unknown will destroy you.
I then play this song, at low volume, for its full duration and teach Economics over it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vzyOi5XRu_g
And any time a student isn't paying attention, I become silent, expressionless, and point my right index finger at that student while I gesture in the air with my left hand. It's a total trip and, eventually, we laugh together...
... until I start that throat singing stuff up again as the class makes ready to leave. More than one student has a panicked expression.

Man...you sound a bit like my old religion teacher...he was a metal head too but he also had his stranger side in music! :D
-
Man...you sound a bit like my old religion teacher...he was a metal head too but he also had his stranger side in music! :D
Oh yeah, I got esoteric covered. :smug:
If I need music for little kids, I'll go with the cheery little novelty tunes and cheesy sound effects. If I did something like play "Voodoo" or "Mekanik Destruktiw Kommandoh" at full volume as I handed out candy, I'd terrify the little ones beyond their ability to withstand.
Teenagers, however, are ready to be terrified. That's why we teach them economics and government.

I gotta honestly say I've always found Omen to be overrated...it's not scary, the child actor isn't all that good and it's bit tedious. The only really good thing about it is Jerry Goldsmith's hauntingly awesome music!

Typhon, maybe you’d be so kind to help me out with a Peter Cushion film? It was about a doctor I think and he would go around killing women and taking their skin for his wife’s face, like plastic surgery or something, I can’t recall the name of this film, it use to scare the bejeebers out of me when I was a kid.

If it is a movie with Peter Cushing in it, chances are I own it (that's Cushing, not Cushion). At first glance this plot does not sound familiar. Are you sure it was Cushing in the movie?
-
Sorry that was auto correct, I just googled the name of the movie is Corruption, thank you for your help Typhon.

Very good movie Typhon, I bought this on DVD, the ending was great.
This was way before the Salem witch trials, great acting as well, sad to think that superstition and mass hysteria killed all those innocent people back then, brings to mind The Crucible another great movie.
Let me know if you ever get Corruption, I would like to now your opinion on it or if you’ve ever seen.

Great Czech film about witch trials, very gripping. The terror is not supernatural, but the manipulation of the concept of the supernatural.

Indeed. This movie truly terrified me as I watched, out of a sense of helplessness in the face of the inquisitor's power.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!
I'm carving pumpkins as we speak...been so long it's hard to remember how it's done...
Plus my carving knife had a rendevous with my finger as well which put a small halt in the carving process...
I ended up going with the classics and not try out much anything new as I had forgotten just how to do it properly...takes a few pumpkins to get into the groove again...
I'll post what I have come up with once they are done.

This was a must obviously:

I did make a different template for the DIO logo this time...it's not perfect sadly...
I wanted to do something Sabbath related but had nothing...I was thinking about doing something with Henry but it's just so damn difficult to figure out how to make it so I went with something simple instead:

A simplified version of the Rules Of Hell cross on a tombstone...too cheesy?
This was my first one this year just to try and get things going again:
I ran out of time and still have two bigger pumpkins left...who knows I might do something with them tomorrow if I have the time...

We've got the house all decorated up and the candy purchased in advance of Thursday's festivities. It'll be our first Halloween in our new house, lots of kids on our street, so we're ready for some costumed fun.

A writer of horror stories (John Carradine) is invited to a "monster club" by a mysterious old gentleman (Vincent Price). There, three gruesome stories are told to him; between each story appropriate song are played for the evening's entertainment. Made by one of the former owners of Amicus Studios, this film has a strong cast, fine sets, and a great mix of horror and black comedy. Probably my favorite Halloween-time movie. 8.5/10

Today, my thoughts turned toward "The Wicker Man". One of the best horror films I've ever seen. It's got Christopher Lee in the lead antagonist role, so that's a big +1, but it's also not a matter of good vs evil, but of a collision of ways of life.

I got really busy today too so I had to carve these out really fast...with that in mind I like the way they turned out...I was hoping to do one more as I had one more pumpkin but just didn't have the time...I might carve that one tomorrow just for fun.

In this 1963 Hammer production, a man, long believed to have committed suicide, turns up at the family estate to claim his inheritance. Some surprises throughout. 7.5/10
I'm familiar with the other movies you've posted, but I have not even heard of this one. Will have to give it a watch!
And if you like this one, then check out Hammer's Scream Of Fear (1961). Slightly different story, but much stronger.

You've got a real talent Charge, well done.
-
Awesome carvings as usual Charger. The skull is my favourite from this year :death:

A centenarian artist and scientist in 1890 Paris maintains his youth and health by periodically replacing a gland with that of a living person. 7/10

Awesome Charger! Nice work.
-
Thanks Bog, Jack and Axe! I enjoy doing those every year...
The scull worked out pretty well this year...made some changes to what I've done before and I think it's better now.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN TO THE COMMUNITY!
I know this year is bit different and I've heard that in the US for instance there is no trick or treatin' allowed...which is a real shame...but what can you do...
Anyways I managed to grow a couple of pumpkins again this year so I made these:

We had candy on our doorstep. Kids were limited, we had about a fifth of the number from last year, but we still had candy for those that wanted it. :D
-
Just spent couple of hours of carving 3 pumpkins....I'll take pics once it gets darker.
But it's the usual ones again...DIO horns and a skull...
I'm hoping to do two more tomorrow with something different...
-
My wife has a GIANT spider out front, right by the door. It's about 1 meter across, very hairy. Yikes.
I'll be going as "Alpine Shepherd Boy", as seen on Better Call Saul. :D
-
I giant spider?!?! Well I wouldn't be visiting you on Halloween then!
-
I know I'm two days early but since Halloween is on Sunday this year I don't have time to carve anything on Sunday I thought I'd put some up today already...

The other day I noticed a garden spider building a web on one side of our front porch, using one of the windows as an anchor point. Since Halloween is coming up, I let it be. So we now have a giant spider web off to the right on our porch and a half-dollar sized spider hanging out in it.
-
Won't be crashing your Halloween parties then either brother Vyn...
-
My other two pumpkins say Happy Halloween to the Community!

-
They look really good!
-
Thanks bud!
I was bit struggling with figuring out what to do with the last one as I was bit pressed on time so I just went with the classic jack....bit dull I know but what the heck... :D
-
Happy Halloween! You carve some cool pumpkins!
My porch spider disappeared along with its web last night. I'm bummed, but my wife is happy.
-
We overbought on candy.
And I can't eat that stuff anymore, it goes straight to my head.
-
^^^
Well, stop wearing it as a hat!!!
-
Good point. Maybe if I put a plastic bag on my head, that would keep the candy problem from happening!
-
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!
Them ghosts are out there again!

Excellent carving as always Charger.
We had undersized pumpkins this year because of the low rainfall earlier in the year.
-
Thanks bud!
I had to water those daily too...some days it was more than 100 liters of water...
-
LOVE the last three!
  :diohorns:
-
Cool as always Charger! My daughter spent the previous week looking for a pumpkin to get for my grandson to carve up. None to be had locally. I didn't catch the reasons bandied between her and my wife, but I was surprised.
-
Thanks guys! Trying to keep the traditions up! :)
-
Typhon's 6-foot spider will always live on. Ciao, man.
-
:mopey:
I was hoping he'd come back...good fellow! Miss him dearly.
-
HAPPY HALLOWEEN
Started early this year and carved a few already!
Naturally the DIO ones

Plus an angry ghost
(https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54105806975_193cc98fd2_z.jpg)
I'll do couple more tomorrow!
-
Very good as always!
-
They look great!
-
Thanks gentlemen...
I was going to do some more today but ran out of time sadly... :(
-
Me and my wife had a fun time sitting on the porch, handing out candy. It was a cool night, hardly a mosquito to be found. We had plenty of candy in the tub, so we had the kids take 3 each, because that adds up to one king-size candy when you do the choco-math.
I had some great oldies at first and then got goth-ier as the night deepened and the crowd got older.
One of my faves is The Crystals' "Frankenstein Twist"
-
Glad they had that station wagon, otherwise one or two of them would have had to stay behind while the rest went uptown.
-
Starting this week is when I see LOTS of ads for Christmas tunes in Cashbox. Christmas was starting early even back in the day!
