I'm sure you're correct with that thought Charger. Maiden are still a very active group (indeed they've been dropping hints about maybe a new album / tour / or something), while Queen are essentially done and dusted.

Give it some time, I'm sure a tweet will go out what mobilizes the Queen fans.

If a side doesn't rally in time, then it's not a rally, more of a "too little, too late" sort of thing...

Wow, well, there you have it - and best part was that they didn't have to go to penalty kicks!

Planet Rock have been at it again!

During this World Cup they've been having their own World Cup of Rock, pitching various bands from around the world against each other to see who comes out on top.

They are down to the last 8:

Iron Maiden v Led Zeppelin
AC/DC v Queen

Black Sabbath v Motorhead
Metallica v Pink Floyd

It is all done via Twitter polls (@PlanetRockRadio) and yesterday Iron Maiden beat Led Zeppelin 57:43, and AC/DC beat Queen 54:46. The other two matches are taking place today. With 19 hours left Black Sabbath are beating Motorhead 70:30 and Metallica are beating Pink Floyd by a narrower 56:44

Given the result from last years Euros of Rock, Queen going out in the Quarters is a shock. AC/DC might have a shot at beating Maiden for a spot in the finals.

Queen knocked out in the quarters? What, is this also being done in Qatar? :smug:

Black Sabbath and Metallica duly won their quarter finals, the scores didn't change much from yesterday

Black Sabbath 69-31 Motorhead
Metallica 56-44 Pink Floyd

Both semi-finals have started and with less than an hour gone it is currently:

Black Sabbath 57-43 Metallica
Iron Maiden 48-52 AC/DC

All four of those bands on a ticket would make for a fun festival, I would think. :D

Scores didn't change a huge amount.

Black Sabbath 55.5:44.5 Metallica

AC/DC 51.8:48.2 Iron Maiden

So an AC/DC v Black Sabbath final, I am a little surprised that Iron Maiden lost as they won the Euros last year, and to be honest I'm surprised that AC/DC are still that popular given they haven't done anything worthwhile in over 30 years! ;)

I'm not quite sure when the final starts or if it will be a 2-day ballot as with the previous competition, let's hope that Sabbath can hold firm over the Aussie juggernaut.

Not very surprising....

I'm assuming AC/DC will take the win. Atleast they are still an active band.

That is kinda funky. Whereas AC/DC had a certain amount of variety in their music when Bon Scott was singing for them, and Back in Black is just simply THE definitive "rock out with your cock out" album, AC/DC pretty much wrote one song and successfully parlayed it into 18 full-length albums.

The same can sort of be applied to Iron Maiden after Paul was ejected. Both bands are still running around, but while AC/DC can be played in the background and no one really needs to actually pay attention to it in order for the beat to get through, Maiden requires a person to actually listen to what they're playing to really appreciate it.
