The Community's HEAVY METAL HALL OF FAME!

So here's the thing.

There's a rock 'n roll hall of fame, which is more hall of shame than anything else, then there is the Metal Hall Of Fame and then there's the Radio Rock Hall Of Fame which has just begun it's reveal...

So it would only be fitting if we'd do one ourselves...

So here's what I've been thinking.

Everyone chooses a certain ammount of people to nominate and then we'd put them all together and choose an ultimate hall of fame amongs them...OR we could take the ones on everyone's lists and automatically put them in...

Or do you have another idea for how this should go?

Maybe a vote?

How many choices per person? 25? or more? or less?

10 isn't enough...there's no way I could atleast pick only 10 for something like this...

Also do we induct bands or individual members?

All these need to be agreed upon before we begin...if we can ever begin as I believe a fight is about to commense before a single nomination has been made.

I'm all for submitting names and then voting on them. I'd like to go with both bands and individuals.

Maybe we induct one person or band per month? Stretch out the discussion and action on this, because it could very well be fun, and we would have to agree to an overall consensus approval on each individual or band.

And if we only do one at a time, we're looking at judging between, say Lemmy vs Ozzy... big decision, who you take, should that decision arise.


For the initial round, however, I think it would be good to bring in maybe 10-20 of the "obvious" metal musicians/acts. Even then, though... which lineups/periods are worthy? Do we bring in all of Black Sabbath, or do we consider only some lineups to be Hall of Famers and the others... well, not?

Black Sabbath Mk1 lineup (Butler Iommi Osbourne Ward)

Black Sabbath Mk 2/3 lineups (Butler Dio Iommi Ward/Appice)

Motorhead Mk1 lineup (Clarke Kilminster Taylor)

Iron Maiden Mk2/3 lineup (Burr/McBrain Dickinson Harris Murray Smith)

You cannot nominate Motörhead without including Phil and Mikkey...you just can't! They were in the band hell of a lot longer than Clarke or Taylor were.


See here comes the issue with different lineups. Should it just be bands in general? But then again we have bands like Sabbath, Purple, Anthrax, Megadeth that have had gazillion line up changes...and some members that only appear on one album...are they worthy of a nomination...

This actually isn't all that easy.

We could ofcourse go the other route and just pick individuals not bands...

I think if we'd go down the individuals route then 50 nominations per person would be good...those might fill up quite fast too...

OK, so Phil and Mikkey have been with the band for a very very long time - and Morse has outlasted even Blackmore in Purple - but what lineup made the most iconic songs? For Motorhead, it's Mk1 and DP, it's Mk2. Those are the lineups with most of the *fame* for those bands, I'd say. Not that the others didn't make great stuff, but the famous stuff... that's why I nominate what I nominate.

I'll also put forward Rainbow with Dio, esp. Rising and LLRAR and the first 2-3 albums from Dio. Ozzy solo with Randy Rhoades for sure.

Gotta have Metallica with Cliff Burton. Wondering if Megadeth goes in or just Dave Mustaine...

I can agree to that. Recognizes them as individual driving forces in the genre, across multiple bands or lineups.

Also I'm thinking some bigger influence bands could just be included without the need to specify a particual line up...

Bands like Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Slayer...

Deep Purple and Metallica could be the classic line up...MK2 and Hetfield/Ulrich/Hammet/Burton

Anthrax could be mk2 as well...

Alice Cooper would ofcourse just be Alice Cooper the man not the band.

Ozzy would be the man

I'd even say Tony Iommi as an individual as well....because of his impact in the birth of Heavy Metal. And that would also eliminate the whole some Sabbath albums aren't Sabbath bs...
