This week's induction is Blackie Lawless from WASP...

Honestly I've never much liked WASP...bit too radio pop stuff for my liking...but again one can't deny their influence on the early 80s pop metal scene...if you're into that kind of stuff.

Going on your taste Z the early stuff might sound a bit dated for discovering Blackie’s work now. Very 80’s production with lots of reverb but still with good riffing, big hooks and catchy harmonised choruses. I’d maybe start with either “The Headless Children” from 89 or 92’s concept album “The Crimson Idol”. Blackie was strongly influenced by The Beatles and The Who which really comes through in his music and always had a great sense for melody and a very emotive voice to go with it. Of his later work you could give “Dominator” a go as well.

I'm hep to the jive on W.A.S.P. now... while I don't care for F*** Like a Beast, Blackie Lawless doesn't, either. :) Their output starting with The Headless Children is well worth investigating, not hair pop metal at all.
