This week's induction was...

Jim Morrison from The Doors.

Not a huge fan of The Doors but they have some good songs and I do think they too paved the way for heavy metal in their own way.

Yes, some good songs in The Doors back catalogue. I'd say he's worthy.

Very big Doors fan here and when I was younger Jim Morrison was a major influence on the man I came to be. He is worthy indeed.

Question: when you woke up this morning, did you get yourself a beer? :)

I've seen his grave at the Lachaise Cemetery in Paris. I also saw a lot of disappointed fans who expected to sit around it and smoke weed. There's now a fence around the grave and most of the visitors are older people with cameras, not the ganja set at all...

No not this morning but I have gotten up and had beer for breakfast in honor of Morrison. I would really like to see his gravesite. The man was a genius but I had to overcome his dark side and it's influence on my life. I still highly respect him, but I have been done with idols since my early 20s. I now enjoy him for his poetry, songwriting and singing and try to look past the fact that he was a maniac, and quite possibly insane. You just cannot do the amount of psychedelics that he did regularly and stay of sound mind. He actually reminds me of Dionysius from Greek mythology with his madness and seductiveness' and his  self destruction.

The Pere Lachaise Cemetery is a beautiful place to visit, throughout. There are whimsical grave markers that will delight the soul as well as memorials that will bring tears to the eyes. Best weather for visiting would be cool, as there is much walking to do - comfortable shoes a must! Trees offer plenty of shade, so no need to worry about too much sun.

This week's induction is...

Klaus Maine from Scorpions!

Haven't listened all that much of Scorpions but I do believe they were among the originators of metal as well so I believe it is a deserved one as well.

Never been a big fan of The Scorpions (probably put off somewhat by that dreadful "Winds of Change" song). But I know I'm in the minority, so I'm not going to argue with his inclusion!

^ When I went to Moscow, my wife and I did a river tour. As the boat approached Gorkiy Park, guess what we were whistling! :)

This week's induction is Axl Rose of Guns & Roses...

Honestly I'm not a big fas of GnR...always considered them to be among the most overrated bands in history. Hell they've released what? Like 4 albums in total or something... :D

I quite like Appetite for Destruction, but there was maybe half an album of good material on the Use Your Illusion albums... never bothered with them after that.

Questioning GnR's impact... I know they sold a ton of records, but how many bands are trying to sound like them? Or singers trying to imitate Axl?

Ozzy, Gillan, Halford, Dickinson, Dio - these are the guys that everyone tries to emulate, from what it seems. They helped to form the genres of metal. Axl? I don't think that he carved out a niche or blazed a trail. He rode a wave and stood on the shoulders of the giants that went before him.

That actually sums it up pretty well... Sure Axl has a very unique voice but it's hardly a good voice...it's not like he's a suberb singer or anything.

But I think Appetite came out just in the right time. There was a bit of a hole for that kind of music at the time I suppose...
