In about 45 minutes I'm heading out to watch the Black Crowes perform live. This is the first "thing" I've done in quite a few years that did not involve a hospital. And except for business, haven't even been out to eat anywhere.

I'm pretty damn anxious about it all. Also looking forward to it. A dichotomy!

It is a different pattern and rhythm to life. Give yourself permission to enjoy it, and you will. :)

Southall opened the show. A southern rock group out of Oklahoma, they played like they meant it. Singer blew a few long notes, but frankly it fit the high energy they brought. Over time they could be really good. Whiskey Meyers was the billed opener, and they burned the whole venue down. Holy shit, those guys played like their souls depended on that one performance. Among of the best I've ever seen.

The headliners did the headliner thing and spent an inordinate amount of time getting ready, but they came out swinging. A varied set, about 70% of what they played I had never heard. Of course, not a big fan but have always liked some of their first few records. They played a song called, "No Use Lying," that could have been the theme to a horror show, it was spooky sounding and seemed out of place, but within the constraints of its own vibe it was really good.

Had a great time, seemed like everyone I saw there did as well!

Sounds like you had a nice vacation for the one night. Took you to a good place.

Hey! Sounds like a fun night you had bud!

I personally am not familiar with the Black Crows...heck don't even know what style of music they play! :D But I doubt it was extreme dance techno.

Thanks, I almost didn't go; glad I went. The venue is called the Morton Amphitheatre, right on the Missouri River. It just opened last June, so is all nice and shiny. More than that, it was well thought out in terms layout, parking, seating. Not a bad seat in the place. Lots of amenities. So, a good place, good music, good company. Fantastic!

The Black Crowes play swampy, earthy style of southern rock, but is more bluesy/hard rock. They're from Georgia, I think the same are that R.E.M. came from.

Yes, they are Georgia-based. As I've noted here in other threads, their latest two albums have been quite good. They are not metal and not 100% hard rock, but they do provide a smooth blend of styles on their albums. I'm going through their back catalog today as I work. It'll likely be a few days to get through them all, what with having to do stuff other than jam out as I get work done. :D
