Death Wish is a solid revenge/action film remake (I don't really remember the original), it works well, suitably violent and grisly... but when did Willis start acting like a robot? It's been a few years now and it's always the same emotionless character (which actually works ok for this film!) 7/10

I have not seen this remake, but if you are able to, you should re-see the original Death Wish.  Bronson is excellent, not as a heavy, but as an average working Joe.  And the film is believable, although it is fiction, with IMO a great ending.  Set in New York City and shot on location.  9/10

I was hoping to watch it before I saw the remake but I just didn;t get around to it. It's on the rental list.

Interested to hear your thoughts when you see it, KDC.

I was kinda looking forward to the Death Wish remake but Bruce Willis curbs my enthusiasm for it. Pulp Fiction was his best performance and movie but he's mostly shit in everything else.

He's always been a B grade actor that's been given A grade roles.

Agreed.  Also like him in The 6th Sense.

Paper Man, a made-for-TV movie I remember seeing back in the 1970's starring Dean Stockwell and Stefanie Powers.  It's about 4 college students that have some trouble with a mainframe computer located on campus.  I wanted to see if I like the film as much today as I did back then (not quite, 5/10).  Plus I use to have the hots for Stefanie Powers.  :P

ANT-MAN

Marvel's smallest character gets his own movie!

A master thief is baited to steal a suit that has the power to reduce the space between atoms, in other words to shrink it's wearer. He is then taught be the inventor of the suit and his daughter to use it and then try to steal another one from an evil company who is planning to sell it to the highest bidder.

Paul Rudd plays Scott Lang who becomes the Ant-Man who can not only shrink and grow back up but control ants to be his team. A criminal main character turned good is something bit different from the usual Marvel heroes as is his abilities. Also the fact that his suit doesn't have any weapons sets him apart from the other heroes.

Ant-Man doesn't flaunt with great big action instead it goes small....really small. Giving us a whole new perspective on things.

The cast is again pretty damn strong. Rudd does great job in the lead as does Michael Douglas the the inventor and mentor dr. Hank Pym, Evangeline Lilly even does a fairly good job same with Bobby Cannavale and the absolutely stunning Judy Greer. Michael Pena serves as the comical side kick and even Anthony Mackie from Iron Man and The Avengers has a small appearance again as The Falcon. But the real surprise are the characters in the opening scene including Howard Stark AND Peggy Carter!!
Corey Stoll does as good as he can with a role that isn't really what you'd call a bigger than life villain but more of a betrayed apprentice of Pym.

This isn't really about saving the world or anything big like the other Marvel movies, this is smaller in concept too, which I suppose is fitting with the over all theme.
Visuals are great and the ants are animated really well and it is a refreshingly different take on "big" action.

However this doesn't come near the Marvel's big four, The Cap, Iron Man, Thor or the Guardians. It lacks in almost all departments, but still a fun little movie...pun intented.

In This Corner of the World

My son picked this one out for family movie night... it's about life in Japan in WW2, particularly in the city of Kure that served as a naval shipyard. It was bombed heavily in July 1945, pretty much flattened, and then about a week later, the city of Hiroshima, just a few miles away, was hit with a nuclear attack.

It's a pretty grim movie at times, but the spirit of survival in the characters is quite real and keeps them keeping on, in spite of their losses and scars. I've also seen Grave of the Fireflies - similar topic, but much, much darker. As it was, this film was nearly as emotionally charged as Grave, sort of a slightly lighter version since the ending is hopeful.

It's a very powerful movie, well worth seeing. If you think Anime is only for kids or nerds, give this one a try and see how it's an excellent format for storytelling, particularly for stories with elements of magical realism.

^^^ 100% correct sir. Rockwell was as close to a certainty for the Oscar as anyone has ever been, I presume the scene you're referring to is the "defenestration" scene! ;)

On TV: The Back To The Future trilogy. Also great. Got an affinity for the third, as that's the one i had on VHS as a kid.
Real Fans love all the movies in the trilogy. The Cartoon Series and Video Game wasn't bad either.  :headbanger:

The last movie I saw in theaters was Ready Player One. I probably would of enjoyed it more if this stupid annoying couple would of shut up during the movie or at least keep the chatter to a minimal. The book, cliche' as it sounds, was better. It's not a bad movie, but could of been so much more.

9/10

This looks so great on a HD TV, the space battle scenes are works of art.

We saw Avengers: Infinity War this afternoon. I'll try and avoid spoilers!

Fisrt off, I'm going to have to see it again as there's a lot going and I know I missed some stuff.

As of now I would say it is one of the best MCU films but not "the" best (perhaps #6) as there are some issues with it; namely that there are waaaay too many characters and consequently some get insufficient screen time. And the ending is unsatisfactory... whatever they say about this and next years films not being the same story split into 2 films it sure feels like they are!

But those are minor gripes as the story, effects and characters are as good as they usually are. 9/10
