RAMBO First Blood Part II

John J. Rambo is released from prison by Colonel Trautman (Richard Crenna) in order to return to Vietnam to find out if there still are any POW's being held there. A recon mission that soon goes wrong after he finds some POW's alive and Rambo is left behind and captured by the Vietnamese army and tortured by some Soviets lead by Podovski (played by the brilliant bad guy actor Steven Berkoff) who are aiding them. With the help of Rambo's local partner he escapes but during the escape his partner (played by the sensationally beautiful Julia Nickson) is killed and Rambo returns to his element and goes for not only revenge but to release the prisoners as well.

The action picks up in the sequal while still retaining it's anti war stance and solidfying John J. Rambo as the most iconic anti-hero of all time.
The screenplay for this was co written by Stallone and action icon James Cameron and the quality shows.

This part has also stood the test of time really well. Both the cruelty of war and the fact that different levels of bad guys exists on both sides.

There are some actors that are born to play certain roles and Sylverster Stallone most certainly was born to play John Rambo. You can read the pain and internal suffering of the chracter from his eyes...

A true classic in it's own right and although quite different from the first part most certainly is no worse.

At a popular NYC Italian restaurant on a dramatic, busy evening, there are an entertaining array of characters, making this film enjoyable to watch.  Caution: you may develop a craving for an Italian meal while viewing. 8/10

The third film from Hammer in the Quatermass Trilogy, and the best of the 3 IMO.  A mysterious artifact is unearthed in London, and Professor Quatermass is called in to divine its origins and explain its strange effects on people.  An excellent plot idea, questioning the origin of the human race. 8.5/10

A young woman returns to her hometown years after a car accident that disfigured her older sister. Haunted by the accident in which she was the driver, she learns that her worst nightmares have either come true, or are about to.  Boring. 4/10

A mere 200 yards from shore, a surfer is attacked by a great white shark, with her short journey to safety becoming the ultimate contest of wills.  It's no Jaws, but is worth a watch. 6.5/10

RAMBO III

John Rambo is asked by his friend and former C.O. Colonel Trautman to aid in a recon mission in Afghanistan but he refuses and Trautman goes in alone and ends up being captured by the Soviets. Rambo them must go in and rescue his friend from the hands of a brutal Soviet commander.

Rambo gets to know the Afghan warriors fighting against Soviet occupation and enlists their help in the daring rescue mission.

Action is amped up again a notch from the previous part and is extremely well done as it should be considering this was the most expensive movie ever made at that point. Sylvester Stallone once again wrote the story and his love for the character is visible in almost every scene. He also drew inspiration from real life events as the Soviets indeed were trying to take Afghanistan at the time but were fought off by the locals. Who back then were a proud people and most importantly honorable warriors. Far from the Taliban scumbags that came to rule the nation later on.

Despite the changes in the world and especially in Afghanistan the movie still holds its own. And the over the top action is just what you want from a Rambo movie. Over all even though this is bigger and badder than the previous ones it does not quite manage to capture the magic. Still a fine example of why action movies were the best thing to come out of the 80s.

Watched Once Upon A Time In Hollywood today.

Movie felt like it dragged a bit but I still found myself thoroughly immersed in it which is odd for a movie with no real storyline or plot. Took awhile for it to totally sink in after watching it as to what I actually thought of it. My consensus is that it's a good and interesting movie with exceptional acting and great Hollywood nostalgia and an enjoyable watch overall. Loved both DeCaprio and Pitt's characters.
