I will be, I'm really not sure when that will be, but I feel it is one which must be seen in the cinema. My local isn't helping by not showing it in the mornings!

An event like this historic battle at Thermopylae really deserves a mini series.  As far as the movie goes, even though I am not a big fan of CGI, the film was entertaining.  Although, I could have done without the monster-like characters.  Mixed feelings on this one. 6.5/10

I agree. This is an adaptation of a comic book, not a real historical representation. If you're just a fan of the comic, there's not that mix of emotions when it comes up short on history. "Tora Tora Tora" it ain't. :)

A middle-aged London governess, finds herself unfairly dismissed from her job. An attempt to gain new employment catapults her into the glamorous world and dizzying social whirl of an American actress and singer.  She helps the singer learn what true love is.  More of a female's type of film, but watchable. 6./10

We watched Dora & The Lost City of Gold yesterday, a film I was advised was more a family film rather than a childrens film... it's borderline!! While the characters are a lot older than in the TV series (16 instead of about 6?) I would say it is aimed at 10-13 year olds with little for adults (as would identify a family film).

Basically Dora is sent to the city to go ro school while her parents go exploring for a Lost City of Gold. She doesn't really fit in at school with her jungle ways. After a while contact is lost with her parents and some "bad" people who also want to find the city capture her and some school friends.

There are some funny moments in the film, and good performances by Isabella Moner, Michael Pena and Eva Longoria. Some things don't work in the live action version of the TV series... Swiper the villainous talking fox (voiced by Benicio Del Torro) doesn't work and Boots - Dora's monkey friend - is borderline believable. 5/10

A US Marine sniper is partnered with a SWAT member to take out rebel leaders in the jungles of Panama.  Good suspense, nicely shot. 7.5/10

Visually very interesting. With the great Hugo Weaving himself.

^^^ I really enjoyed it too.

=====

Today I watched The Upside on rental. A Hollywood remake of the French film Untouchables, which I'm happy about as I don't speak French and my eyesight is too poor to keep up with subtitles... I'm aware that the original is probably the better film!

Bryan Cranston plays a wealthy businessman who is a quadruplegic after a paragliding accident. Kevin Hart plays a former convict who needs to prove to his parole officer that he is applying for jobs. When he applies for one job that he thinks is as a janitor it turns out to be as personal help for the wealthy business man. While unqualified for the job and much to the dismay of the other staff, the businessman decides to employ him. There follows an odd couple type story as the two become friends and Hart's character now being able to support his estranged family.

A comedy drama well acted by the two leads, and Nicole Kidman in a subdued supporting role. I enjoyed it. 7.5/10

Scientists investigating an unusual meteor shower in a rural field are possessed by an alien force bent on an ulterior purpose.  One of Amicus Production's weaker efforts, but still fairly interesting. 6/10

Last saw "Meet the Patels" on Amazon. It's a real-life documentary of a young man dealing with his parents' expectations about dating and marriage as he approaches 30. It's accessible to people with passing familiarity with Indian culture, but even funnier to those who know what it means to be Desi, especially if one knows a little Hindi/Gujarati, like when the lead has to register on shaadi.com. :D

I had a good time revisiting this action movie from the late nineties and the movie has aged well. Harrison Ford does his usual stellar job as the lead and Gary Oldman is very believable in the role of the villain. 8/10
