We saw Tolkien today, the drama which recounts the early years of JRR Tolkien, covering his love for language and his experiences in the First World War which influenced his writing of the Hobbit/Lord of the Rings.

It stars Nicholas Hoult as the author and Lily Collins as Edith the young lady he would eventually marry. It is quite good, a little formulaic in its approach maybe, but performances are good and the characters engaging. 7/10

This was pretty good and was a new role for Arnold and I thought he did well here. Based on a true story. 7/10

Anyone here looking forward to the new Star Wars movie? I didn’t like the way the last one ended! Who was Snoke, and Rey was nobody?

That's a pretty big deal here now as it was directed by a Finn...however the critics haven't liked it much though...and the audience even less I think... :D

Rey is a Skywalker there is no doubt about it. I knew what was gonna happen to Luke but I was kind of hoping it would have been in a bit different way though...

I am looking foward to a new one...mainly because since this was gonna be about Leia and Fisher died before the movie was done I want to see how they worked around that...I do remember them saying that they did NOT use a digital Leia though...so her death scene will be interesting non the less.

^^^^ Although my attraction to the franchise had been a huge step forward with episode 7, episode 8 had the effect of a cold shower for me. I experienced this disappointment with episode 1 or even 2.
I'm not expecting anything from this future "final" chapter when Disney just announced this week that 3 new films will be started, like a Spin-Off.

After the family matriarch passes away, a grieving family is haunted by tragic and disturbing occurrences, and begin to unravel dark secrets.  Some good scares. 7.5/10

Yeah I heard that too...Don't care about the spin-offs...the ones that we've had have been from bad to horrible and completely useless so honestly those have very little to no interest to me.

Star Wars was and should have always been about the Skywalkers...that's the way George Lucas intented it to be.

I had watched it last year. a real shock with Toni Collette whose talent is already knew but here we discover her under another evil side.
The end is very disturbing.
I enjoyed it very much.

I can't speak for Finland but the IMDb user rating is a 7.0 so not bad really. Yes, the couple of reviews I saw seemed to be underwhelmed by it, but I take critics with a pinch of salt, they often have different opinions to me! :)

@ Charger, yeah I think she’s a Skywalker too, I think the story that her parents were drunks is just a story to hide her identity to protect her.

They’re going to have to do something better with Star Wars, they have lost a lot of fans because of what they did.

I enjoyed watching it but we must forget the abracadabrantesque script and some staggering and just impossible situations.
Even some X men can't escape this special jail (except Nightcrowler)  but it's always a pleasure to see Sly and Schwartzy together.
7/10
special mention to Amy Ryan. my god , near to 50 but still hottie as Hell .
50 cents ? who ??

The charisma of the two carries the movie for sure...I quite enjoy it too...just watched it again a while back and it was just as good still. The whole cast is great though...especially Jim Caviezel as the warden...

And yeah Amy Ryan...man...She got under my radar back in the day with the Wire and she's stayed there ever since...she is pretty...really pretty.

We saw First Reformed on rental over the weekend. Ethan Hawke plays a priest at the First Reformed Church, with a past and health issues. Amanda Seyfried plays the pregnant partner of an Environmental Warrior who doesn't want to bring a child into a world where in 30 years pollution and global warming will make the world a living hell. Cedric the Entertainer plays Hawke's boss who is more concerned about the upcoming 250th anniversary of the church than other concerns.

The film starts off quite well, it's intriguing and a little mysterious, but it is slow and towards the end it all goes a bit strange... but not in a good way. Hawke is very good in the role and I believe he was in the mix for an Oscar Nomination this year. 5/10

This docudrama draws parallels between the dramatic fracturing of the nation over Abraham Lincoln's presidency and the presidency of Donald Trump.  Pretty interesting. 7.5/10
